Good storyline for a short movie

Towards the ending of the movie, it became interesting. The beginning and the middle seemed stretched out.

A disappointing Movie that could have been a lot more

Warning: Spoilers
I had a first doubt at this movie when I saw it was only 80 minutes long. I thought it would be packed, but in reality this a 15 Min movie stretched to 80 minutes.

A quick summary,

Noha the main character is about to get married, she is having second thoughts about this torn by her old love and her obligation to her family. Her family setting does not help too between a controlling brother, a jealous unmarried sister and a mother that tries to patch things up in a war torn 1970's Lebanon. After an encounter in which she sees masked men kill another person and threatening her former love things go downhill from then including meeting her future husband's family, calling the wedding off and a couple if unforeseen twists that I will not spoil.

The movie was very depressing , the photography is often dark and some scenes are stretched too long without having any use to the plot. There are places you don't know which setting the character is in and the ending is abrupt and feels incomplete and unfair.

Some important elements of the plot and character development could have been added and given depth to the script. There are a lot of things that could make the plot interesting.

Technically the movie is not bad, the acting is decent to good and the cinematography is good although plans get cut and switched a little too often.

This movie had the potential to confirm Nadine Labaki as a major player of the Arabic cinema, she plays the part as well as she could but the script's weakness makes her character look a bit Cliché and uninteresting. Also the plot could have had some modifications and unexplored side stories that could have made the movie a lot better and suitable for the general public.

Noah, a young woman living in Beirut, is getting married in 15 days. It is the end of summer 1976 in the midst of a civil war where everything is doomed to change.

Stray Bullet is a poetical film in my opinion. One that won first prize at the Dubai International Film Festival. It is a film that dwells on social issues and critiques a status quo with finesse. It is a film that tackles subjects such as the marital institution, autonomy within the context of a civil war. A war which does not take centre stage and yet affects every part of the narration through its lingering shadows. Skewed camera angles and an intricate sound design in addition to the 16mm grain, create a sense of disorientation and anxiety and make us feel as though we are experiencing the character herself.

Confusing and silly

This film starts by inserting the viewer in a story that's already begun. No context is provided for the characters so viewers have no idea of who is who or what's happening. The movie is extremely low budget and grainy, looking like something filmed with a Super 8 camera. In short, it's completely unwatchable, pointless and disappointing.
