By porn standards, Brad Armstrong's "Speed" is considered an "epic", released as a high-priced 4-DVD set (with loads of lousy extras) a decade ago in hopes of tapping the audience created by the big-budget "Pirates" movies.
Brad's screenplay is embarrassing, its dumb story, corny/sentimental subplots and dreadful dialogue all very poor. Armstrong's only achievement here is to stage some okay action scenes and setpieces involving dozens of real-life bikers (recruited by co-star Derrick Pierce) to augment the eleven XXX sex scenes featuring a starry femme porn cast.
Four Wicked contract actresses lead the cast, with Jessica Drake fresh out of prison after a four-year stretch, reuniting with old pals including Pierce as head of a biker club that includes Barrett Blade. BB emerges as Jessica's romantic interest in a number of intentionally corny scenes (balanced by explicit sex including orgies where Drake does her d.p. Thing) culminating in a self-mocked literal finale of the couple riding off happily into the sunset.
Stupid subplots include Kirsten Price as a bike store owner forced by mean cops (led by Randy Spears and Brad Bartram in NonSex roles plus Brad Armstrong himself as her sex interest) to work undercover against the biker clubs/gangs, in return for getting her dad (veteran director Fred Lincoln) out of stir. Spyder Jonez leads a gang, in debt to a black gang led by Prince Yahshua, planning an armored car robbery with Dale DaBone and Tommy Gunn as his key henchmen. Casting of DaBone and Pierce is dead-on, as either could have (or rather should have) been mainstream action stars in such roles rather than their chosen porn profession.
After all the sex and action subsides, including a violent scene where Spyder is tortured by Yahshua's henchman Mr. Marcus (confusing script has Yahshua named Marcus while the real Mr. Marcus goes nameless), Brad climaxes his movie with a rapid-fire montage that clumsily ties up all the subplots' loose ends in three minutes, after a ridiculously long 3-hours plus amount of porn/dialog and action. Yes, in porn as in the eyes of mindless critics of mainstream cinema, length of running time is confused with "epic".
The other Wicked girls include Kaylani Lei as Oriental biker club leader Keni Styles' girlfriend, warring with Max Mikita (who gives a fine performance) in what seemed headed for lesbian action but instead ended in sickly sentimentality. Not as sentimental, however, as Alektra Blue casting the ashes of her slain brother Spyder into the ocean. And oh yes, another orgy that is all-Black from Yahshua's gang and a bevy of top talent including Misty Stone, Jada Fire, Nyomi Banxxx and Marie Luv.
This sort of nonsense from Brad and other top pornographers is firmly a thing of the past, as internet porn has made 6-figure porn budgets preposterous, especially as streaming has rendered the DVD porn format obsolete.
