Nègres Ashantis: Danse du sabre II (1897)
There were hundreds of films made by the Lumiere Company and most of them are highly entertaining to view today because they give you an authentic look at how things were back in the day. This film here has to be one of the earliest examples of black people captured on film and it's pretty interesting to watch. I'm not sure what the location is but the room is packed with people watching as a few black folks dance. The camera is placed back but manages to capture some terrific images and one really wonders where this was shot. It's really too bad that more isn't known about the film but ti's very much worth watching and especially if you enjoy these actuality movies.
