LeBron James might be out of the NBA playoffs, but he’s still angling to be a big part of the summer entertainment season. That’s because HBO Max’s list of new releases for July 2021 is highlighted by a very special sequel.
Space Jam: A New Legacy premieres on July 16. will find LeBron teaming up with the Looney Tunes in a Warner Bros. IP-extravaganza. Can ‘Bron and the Looney Tunes beat the Goon Squad before Warner Bros.’ server steals LeBron “Bronny” Jr.’s soul (or something)? Let’s hope so. The two other major WB releases this month, No Sudden Move and Tom and Jerry in New York, both come to HBO Max on July 1.
HBO Max is also bringing some fun TV shows to its stream this month. The long-awaited Gossip Girl revival premieres on July 8. That will be followed by Mike White’s satirical limited series The White Lotus...

If you’re still wondering how Eminem wound up performing at this year’s Academy Awards, credit Justin Timberlake for the idea — sort of.
Timberlake opened the 2017 ceremony with a performance of his hit “Can’t Stop the Feeling,” and since then, the Oscars has embraced including high-energy musical numbers to liven up the telecast. Last year, Queen featuring Adam Lambert opened the awards with “We Will Rock You,” an ode to that year’s nominated film “Bohemian Rhapsody.”
But since that Timberlake performance, ABC Entertainment alternative/specials/late-night senior VP Rob Mills said the network and the Academy had been looking for a way for Eminem to finally, much belatedly, perform “Lose Yourself” during the Oscars.
“It’s something we’ve talked about for years,” Mills told Variety on Monday. “Because that was one of the great film anthems of all time, and anthems all together. But it’s...

It’s Focus Features, not A24, that ultimately will acquire global on Miranda July’s Kajillionaire, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival. Focus will handle domestic, while Universal will release it abroad. Written and directed by July, Kajillionaire follows con artists Theresa and Robert, who spent 26 years training their only daughter, Old Dolio (Evan Rachel Wood), to swindle, scam and steal at every opportunity. During a desperate, hastily conceived heist, they charm a kind stranger, Melanie (Gina Rodriguez), into joining their next scheme, completely shaking up Old Dolio’s routine. Her unlikely connection with Melanie begins to challenge Old Dolio’s odd and stoic reality — and she finds herself suddenly caught between the only family she has ever known and the prospect of total freedom. The film also stars two-time Oscar nominee Richard Jenkins and three-time nominee Debra Winger.

Remember in September when we drafted up our list of favorite heist films? Well, if we ever do it again, don't expect this one to place. Bruce Willis and Paul Walker are in talks to join Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson in the very boring sounding "Set Up." Written and set to be directed by stunt guy Mike Gunther, the film "revolves around a group of friends who are catapulted into the middle of a diamond heist that turns deadly." Geez, never seen that one before! The pic is a modestly budgeted affair that will likely come in around $20 million…...

Diamonds may be a girl's best friend, but they always seem to invite trouble when men try to steal them. By that standard, Bruce Willis may find himself in a heap of trouble in 'Set Up,' an upcoming action movie that is set to star Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson. Willis is "in talks" to star, as is Paul Walker, according to Variety, which means they may or may not end up in the film.
'Set Up' revolves around a group of friends who get caught up in a diamond heist that turns deadly. Mike Gunther, a veteran stunt coordinator whose credits include 'Live Free and Die Hard,' will write and direct. Willis is coming off his lead role in 'Red,' a supporting part in 'The Expendables,' and co-starring duties with Tracy Morgan in 'Cop Out,' all of which have...
