role playing and the scenario
ersandevrim7 May 2012
Unfortunately role playings disaster!! And the scenario doesn't explains the truths... Completely shows the Republic looks like anti-Islamic thing. Main character "Said-i Nursi" also known as "Said-i Kurdi" which is mean "Said the Kurdish" Thats why during the whole movie this matter doesn't shown and Said-i Nursi appearing looks like a republican and non radical Islamic.Actually in my mind the director and producer really made a good camouflage about to shows his real behaviors and thinks. The film shows like Republican politics had been opposite to the Islam religion and who believe to it..Thats why I can say that this movie a political purposed film which are contains a lot of exaggerations.

Bad for a movie, not correct in some important ways
sedatemrekutsal9 January 2015
Warning: Spoilers
This movie is the reason I have registered to IMDb, because I really felt like I had to put a realistic review along with the other non-sense reviews I've seen on here. I will divide my review into two sections as follows:

Quality of the work:

This isn't a good movie. It's a story about a religious leader, Bediüzzaman Said Nursi, who was truly an influenced person for his area and had an quite interesting story. This could be a seriously interesting work to be watched, but unfortunately it really lacks from quality elements for a movie. I am not an experienced film critic, but after watching at least 1 movie every night for whole my life long, you can easily understand this movie has a cast which can't act at all. It hurts to watch how the main actor suffers from this talent. Movie proceeds with flashbacks, but it is not well established since the viewer still gets bored. Even though the story is really interesting, the movie tells the story in the worst basic, boring and amateur possible way. Therefore, I can gladly say, only an amateur like me should criticize this movie as this will be a laughable and waste of time material for a professional.

Accuracy of the truth:

It's absolutely correct to say that Said Nursi was an important religious icon for his time and as a Turkish, I was already aware of his story before the movie. This movie showed him as a religious hero and this can be debatable as many other resources state he was a traitor for his country as well. However, I have no place to make an assumption like this, because I also read about his story quite similar to this biographic movie's story. However, after watching one scene, I personally started to question the whole story's accuracy and unfortunately this is the scene which makes the movie earn money. Otherwise, I doubt this movie would have been even heard or watched: *Spoiler* Based on some resources, it is being stated as Mustafa Kemal Ataturk (the creator and great leader of Turkish Republic) invited Said Nursi for an event and let him give a speech. After the speech, Ataturk had a meeting with him in order to discuss more. However, it is never completely proved that they have even met or Said Nursi was invited. This movie shows a scene where Said Nursi raises his voice against Ataturk as "Pashaaa! PASHAAA!" and gets insulted by his words. Every Turkish and even many foreign people know how a great leader Ataturk was. Let's be objective and assume I am not a follower of Ataturk. Then there is this truth: Ataturk was the greatest leader in the region who has just created a new nation out of a fallen massive empire such as Ottoman Empire and saved the people from the invasion of many other countries. He put an end to rebellions in any necessary way and he brought people in front of the judgement for any kind of mistake towards the nation, including his second-in-hand commander Kazim Karabekir. So how can such a powerful leader can let a religious leader get away after being rude towards himself? I find it quite funny to believe this. After seeing this, I find it hard to believe the accuracy of the rest of the movie.

In summary; don't watch the movie, just read a book if you are interested in Said Nursi's life.

It is a film about a true history and it's telling about a man who has dedicated his live for his believe.

I think that he is one of the most important person's in the short history and must be known by humanity.

I want strongly advice you to see this film.

You will also gain more information about the movement.

If he was alive, then we could give him a super-nobel price. Do you ask why? Than go to this film and get the answer there.

I think that when you see this film than you will search for more information about this person.

Very good
veli_akyol8 January 2011
In my opinion,

First, generally i don't like documents. But i really like that one because the story was depicted very well. Crew was good there could be more famous actors but it is OK.

Secondly, talking aboutwhat u get from this film is about what u want. It is an biography andSaid Nursi is an intellectual. Of course, the film should involve somenotions, but it doesn't make any Islamic or Kurdish propaganda. Itdoesn't impose any notion just show about Said Nursi's point of view. Also if you have some information about his life and his thoughts it isbeneficial for you to get the plot.

Finally, I strongly recommend thatfilm, Said Nursi is a scholar who has a great importance. After youwatch that film you will have an opinion about his ideas.

Everyone should watch it, if likes him or not.

nice biopic with a message of peace and progress
openforum15 January 2011
This is a very ambitiously made film trying to give the audience an accurate account of the life of famous Turkish preacher Said Nursi, a.k.a. Said Kurdi (Said the Kurd) or his nickname Bediuzzaman (the wonder of the age). In this the film succeeds. His main teachings of scientific progress without abandoning religion and brotherly love and unity between Turks and Kurds are also wonderfully told.

The main criticisms I have for this film are three fold. The movie was made by a fan for other fans, and as such is less accessible for people who do not know anything about Said Nursi. As a fan I would have wanted it to be more accessible to the general public. The second point is the length and breadth of the film. At 3 hours, it's far too long and the story becomes unnecessarily convoluted. The third is the lack of characterful actors and story arcs. Except for Mursid Aga Bag who plays Said Nursi, the only memorable supporting actor is Ahmet Yenilmez, who only plays a small roll as the guard, but shines at it.

Not perfect bu a beginning for filming Bediüzzaman Said Nursi
ozkan14515 January 2011
I strongly recommend to watch this film because u can see unseen part of of The Turkish History.

Also u can understand that reality: "one who obtains true belief may challenge the whole universe"

World history have a lot of heroes but you can find few people who challenge the world without using power.

And Bediüzzaman Said Nursi is one of them. Just watch and make up your mind.

Have a good time

A Film For A Man Of Action!
mustafauysalmak27 January 2011
Warning: Spoilers
Finally, one of the directors accomplished this goal, the goal to show the people on cinema about who was Bediuzzaman Said Nursi.

He is one of the most important MAN OF ACTION that lived on this world. His books(The Risale-i Nur Collection) is being read by millions of people around world. But every great man have their own enemies, enemies that attack with slanders. His notions were found dangerous by some of people so they tried to debar him from the thing that he always chose even in comparison with bread, his FREEDOM.

I knew that after the movie's filming was finished many people would criticize it in a negative way, but i had promised myself long time ago to see it by closing my ears to any kind of criticism. If people who criticize this movie would see a cup that contains water that only 2 drops left from fully filled level, they would say that the cup have 2 missing water drops. No matter what we do, they can't see the filled part of the cup. So i don't bother this. As we can see from the movie, Said Nursi had challenged against these kinds of people in whole of his life by using "non-physical jihad" method. By this method he proved and demonstrated to the world that Qur'an is an undying, inextinguishable Sun!

Would like to thank to Mr.Tanrisever for his job. Hope this will just be an inception. There are lots of other things waiting to be told from white curtain. Slanders will vanish by showing truths to the people...

Heart warming
sanatirmizi2311 May 2020
I thoroughly enjoyed learning about this man and the historical events of that time. I watched it over a few sittings as I had to follow the English subtitles. I thought it was really well scripted and acted - the characters seemed very real. A very motivational film and I feel glad that I watched it.

Brilliant biography
performinganastasia18 August 2021
I believe everyone can watch this documentary, yet, my perspective is that it would be most interesting to Said Nursi's readers and students. It's significance is not in film methods, but in his story and teachings. If you have love for a teacher, you will love even a 10 hour film, and wish it didn't end. Said Nursi was a scholar, preacher, a wise and kind soul, which translated well in the movie. The little boy's relationship with the teacher was the perfect touching element here.
