Thoroughly Entertaining

Bots High was awarded Best Feature Documentary at the 2011 Independents' Film Festival in Tampa. It's a surprisingly entertaining film for anyone - not just combat robot fans. Full of action, excitement and drama, and really compelling interviews. The filmmakers follow 3 high school teams as they design, build and then fight their combat robots in a succession of competitions leading up the national championship in Miami. Nice pacing throughout, well shot with tons of good b roll and cutaways that keep the action moving without being obtrusive. One of the best things about this doc is that it doesn't have a perfect tied-up-in-a-bow happy ending. It's real, it's inspiring and it's thoroughly entertaining.

This is a great peek into the world of kids, robots and real life. Very realistic and enjoyable!

Joey Daoud hit the mark in this documentary. I saw it with a friend who knew nothing about robotics, is far removed from high school kids and she thought it was truly wonderful. It's a terrific look into the lives of todays kids who are dealing with all the normal teenage dilemmas as well as competing in the latest kind of "smart sports". It is perfect for the whole family and I encourage geeks and non-geeks alike to check it out. The fact that the girls were intelligent, technologically savvy and beautiful is a boost for getting young ladies into the fields of Technology, Engineering, Science and Math. The boys looked sharp as well, an all around win/win!
