I'm afraid I don't understand the favorable reviews from my fellow Zenda enthusiasts. The first episode contains mainly additions to the original, almost al of them not merely unnecessary but harmful to the plot. (There is some excuse for the addition of the character of Smithers, in lieu of a narrator, but it breaks parts of the story.) The silent version, the Colman version, and its remake all shine in their way; this, despite some good acting of Sir Anthony's dialogue where it is allowed to show through, largely sinks.
