- Six American homeless men from different backgrounds are observed through a year of their lives and a season of homeless soccer. The film presents a cross sectional view of the American homeless plight and shows that something as small as a game, and a team community can be the big difference in a life. Through learning this beautiful game our characters struggle to rejoin society as they confront issues on the field in order to apply their new skills and discoveries in taking their first step out of the streets.—Anonymous
- 'The Beautiful Game' follows the biggest year in American homeless soccer. Street Soccer USA is planning it's premier event, the US Cup, to be held in Washington D.C. The founder of the league, Lawrence Cann, and his brother Rob work to plan the soccer tournament while also working through different issues with their players. Two young brothers who are veterans of the team find themselves on their own when their mother abandons them. Tim is a recovering addict who lives in a halfway house and needs another way to spend his free time other than attending recovery meetings and work. And Dwayne is the new recruit who is living on the streets, smoking crack while his pregnant girlfriend is home in another state.
