Singer/songwriter Kris Kristofferson and director Monte Hellman have an enjoyable and engaging conversation on working with each other in the early 1970's. Hellman tells Kristofferson that he considers his song "Me and Bobby McGee" to be another character in the film and points out that the characters in the movie are competing with themselves. Kristofferson remembers James Taylor as a humble guy, praises Bob Dylan as one of the best songwriters in existence, and notes that there was more freedom of expression in the 1970's. Moreover, Hellman reveals that studio executive Lew Wasserman hated the movie and the Moscow Film Festival refused to show the picture on the grounds that it was subversive. The pair also talk about how Kristofferson was initially considered to play the driver. Worth a watch for fans of these two guys.
