By far the best Turkish movie I've ever seen ..
cartoonheart4520 November 2016
Warning: Spoilers
What a wonderful movie. It was powerful and inspiring.

It's obvious that the director did his best. The actors, the script and the places are very pleasant. The ending was a little expected from my part but I loved the flash-back scenes, the chemistry between the two main actors, very sincere and simple performance. I was overwhelmed by the charismatic presence of Mehmet Günsür, really great actor, now I'm really found of him. I didn't like him this much in Muhtesem Yuzyil. Usually I don't like this kinda of movies but this one was very breathtaking. Now I have an increased appetite for more Turkish movies experiences.

Love likes too many coincidences
monasterace5 February 2011
I saw this movie yesterday in London. The main pleasure I took from it was to see that Mehmet Günsür has become a very good actor.

I have seen him last time in an Ozpetek's movie called "Hamam-The Turkish bath" in 1997, he was very young at that time, but I remember he showed a very good performance even there in a supporter role (Alessandro Gassman was the lead character).

Going back to Ask Tesadufleri Sever, the translation of the title in English should be "Love likes coincidences" and I must say the writers went a little bit too far with the coincidences stuff making the plot too unrealistic and sometimes ridicule.

And that is a shame because the good acting (Günsür, Yigit Özsener and the actress who plays Günsür mother) and the beautiful locations of both Ankara and Istanbul could make this movie a little pearl to compete with international titles.

Worthy to be watched for the good acting and for Ankara's and Istanbul's views, but be prepared to the disappointing and sometime painful script.

An Ankara movie is always worth to see
ocakceren-109-58893315 January 2014
I remember seeing this movie in İstanbul and crying my eyes out of their balls since I was in great despair to be away from my family who lived in Ankara. Though a bit ordinary, I really like the story and how it was processed. It is true that there some logical errors but I could not help but getting lost in the story and realizing these errors after the movie. Mehmet Günsür is irrefutably a very good actor, or let's say, he has become one recently. However, I strongly detest Berçim Erdoğan's acting. Not only in this movie! In short, it is a very good Ankara movie which is capable of touching the hearts of people who spent time in Ankara in the 90s.

Glad It Was My First Turkish Movie!
Ghadah15 August 2013
I'm trying to watch many foreign movies to get introduced to different cultures. Plus, Hollywood does not interest me as much as it used to be.

However, I've never thought of watching a Turkish movie before because I'm not a fan of Turkish series so I thought why should I.

Anyways, let me tell something. I'm glad I've changed my mind and I'm glad I picked this one.

Hence the title, this movie is FULL of coincidences! So if you are too stuck to reality, don't watch it cause it will be shallow, silly and full of nonsense! Let us dreamers enjoy it

TBH, lots of what happened in the movie is considered to be crazy coincidences but that did not ruin it for me. Love is a strange thing, is it not?

The lead actor and actress did a great job not to mention the lovely chemistry between the two of them. You can feel their love, I'm serious :)

A Harrowing Lovestory From Turkey
ufukglr5 February 2011
Warning: Spoilers
l had big expectations before l saw this movie. My expectations were not %100 fulfilled since l like in romantic movies happy endings. The acting of Mehmet Gunsur was good. But the story was average since the issue with coincidences was exaggerated. The usage of the camera, the places which the movie was made, were great. The acting of Bercim was average and the movie was not funny as l expected. If you want to laugh at the weekend you should join Eyvah Eyvah 2 but if you are looking for a romantic movie with a harrowing end you should choose this one.As a final word, there is great effort behind the movie however acting ans scenario should be much powerful.

Love Story meets Amelie Turkish way
andrejakc-122 July 2011
Warning: Spoilers
Brilliant movie, fantastic script with amazing performances. I have to admit that I was a bit sceptical with the poster, trailer and Turkish pop music. But from the opening scenes of 2 little newborns and their evolution trough life and photography and coincidences, this is simply just a brilliant piece of movie making.Full stop. All this is told trough amazing set pieces and I must admit that Ankara and Istanbul look stunning. There are occasional sugar-sweet moments but the line where dad explains to son that his life is in-between limited borders, but what he does in-between those borders is what really matters stayed with me. The coincidences, the photographic memories which were lost and found and ultimately re-united and the whole story telling is just simply excellent. The summary about Love Story (great ending) meets Amelie ( with all the different locations) Turkish way just gives you a small hint what kind of movie this is. American re-make must be on the way, which probably will be much worse, so until then please check out this movie wherever you can because you will not be disappointed.

speachless...<3
alexandra_sweety8318 February 2013
I have made this account a few minutes ago...I thought I have so much to say about the story of this movie, about my review here...But now I find myself speechless... And I must specify,I'm not a great fan of love movies.Plus,I was against movies in other languages but English.I have decided this evening to try it anyway. But this one...the most beautiful film I have ever seen! It made me wonder if such coincidences happened in my life or in the life of my friends,family...I was planning to watch another movie after this one,but I don't wanna do it anymore.I want to go to sleep with these feelings, with this story in my head. I'm not so easy to impress generally, specially about love movies and dramas. Well, this one got me!

Young Love Stays Youthful
R-Bird-A16 June 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Very sweet story of coincidences and a love that was destined from their first breath to their last. The flashbacks were an effective tool to tell the history of this couple. Both main characters were very likeable, and make a sweet couple.

What I did not necessarily like was: 1)that the main girl cheated on her boyfriend. 2)I would have like to see more resolution between father and son. 3)And I am not a big fan of heartache, so the ending was hard to accept. Okay, I get that she saved his life and lives on in him....but I don't see that with happiness, but with grief. Now I'm sad and it's time for bed.... I wish there were a happier ending!

I applaud Turkish cinema!
arka-421-73499411 January 2013
Before I proceed let me give to you my background as an audience viewing a Turkish movie.

I have absolutely no idea about Turkish culture, the language, the people, the food or the music let alone Turkish cinema. But after years of having become frustrated and annoyed with the lack of quality and essence of Hollywood romance I knew I had to turn to a new film industry altogether to satisfy my need for romance (as a movie enthusiast).

How I stumbled upon this title is another story but I wish to thank IMDb for that, I would just say that this movie is easily the best romance movie I have ever seen.

It just checks all the right boxes!

Let me appreciate the chemistry between the pair, Ozgur and Deniz first, their love looks real and not overdone at all. It is just perfect, just about right. I have always believed that for the romance genre no matter how big a star cast you manage to get, if the chemistry between the two leads is not there you just fail.

Before Sunrise and Sunset are prime examples of successful romantic cinema which worked because the couple worked too, of course a script is ever important but it's the actors that attract you in the first place.

The story line never bores the viewer even though you might find yourself predicting what happens in the end, your prediction will most likely come 5 minutes before the movie ends, so you can be sure to enjoy every bit of this amazingly done film.

Love likes Coincidences, may be not that many but that's just how it is best described...
kayabay11 February 2011
I watched the movie "Ask Tesadüfleri Sever" - "Love Likes Coincidences" tonight the 11th of February 2011, and loved it by all means... In a movie, if you don't believe in a few coincidences, it is one thing, but in this movie, the story telling is a musical coincidences symphony in which two parallel lives, a love and the people circling around are successfully portrayed.

Ömer Faruk Sorak is a powerful director who makes the spectator find a place for him/herself a place in the story. He just finds the tempo and lets the river flow... Mehmet Günsür & Belçim Bilgin as the two main characters just fit in too... Especially Mehmet Günsür with his performance and charisma gives the movie the energy it needs. I'd like to congratulate Gökçe Doruk Erten as the director of casting too.. Since the movie covers a story of two people from their ages 7-10 up to end of 20's it is actually difficult to cast a continuum and that was done superb. In many successful American movies you sometimes get shocked by the casting of characters by different actors in such a long and evoluting piece of time.

Also an Oscar goes to Ipek Sorak who has created a perfect symphony of coincidences that lead to a touching love with her concept & story.

Thanks for all the efforts, I can say "Ask Tesadüfleri Sever" is the best Turkish movie I've watched for the last few years.

Sigh. I love Turkish dramas but they gotta get with the happy. Too much heartache gets old. At least we have Sadece Sen.

Superb!
luke-darnell2 February 2019
Firstly I've never watched a Turkish film before, in fact never one other than that's come from Hollywood or either Britain. We found this on Netflix and the description of the film sounded good so we thought we would give it a go. Needless to say this film left us speechless, it is an absolute gem. The main actress is better than anything we have seen in the west and the story is light years ahead of most films in recent history. Hollywood could learn a lot from the people who made this. A masterpiece!

Give it a try and I bet you will say why this is underrated!
maf3455 August 2020
Among many movies in my wish-list this was one of them. But due to not being in English language as well as not being highly rated I hadn't watched it for a long time. But one day I found this review from Google and after watching it I think I will give the exact same review to everyone whom I recommend.

Google review by user "subhash 2909" - "this movie is really underrated...even 9/10 doesn't seem enough to this movie.....give it a try and i bet u don't regret after watching...pictures like these are rare...mind blowing screenplay..just watch it undoubtedly.i assure you that this would be your fav movie after watching it."

If you are a fan of romantic genre movies then I would say this is a movie with different story, superb acting and last but not the least a must watch one!

Best Love Story Ever.
drdennisblue27 July 2019
I am older and have been watching movies for six decades. From start to finish, this movie gripped me emotionally. The range of emotion extended well beyond anything I have ever experienced from a cinematic work. I would not call it "cheesy" or criticize that there were too many coincidences. One way or the other, the storyline reaches down and touches the viewer deeply.

Made my week
ia-9702728 June 2019
Okay first of all, if you are a romantic person this movie will be your best selection. However, even if you are not, this movie will be again your best selection. A fantastic drama romantic story that left me mouth-open for an hour after I finished it. The acting is unbelievably true to the extent you live the story yourself. If there is more than 10 on ranking I would have gone for that option.

(Almost) all aspects unsatisfying
paulnopp3 January 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I was tricked by the good imdb score of this movie to watch it. Well, it was 2 wasted hours of my life I will not get back. The storyline is highly predictable and, to say the least, cringeworthy. The characters are almost throughout unlikeable, even the ones supposed to attract sympathy from the viewer. That gives the movie a weird spin, as it fails to evoke the emotions it intends to trigger. It turns into a ridiculous soap opera without any meaning. The music is too loud and obtrusive. The sets do not make a realistic impression and are too overcrowded with wooden actors to be taken seriously. The only good thing I can say is that the main character, a wicked woman who cheated her boyfriend while he was on a business trip, dies in the end, which creates an odd satisfaction in the viewer (the director certainly wanted to make the ending sad but failed). That's why I put 2 stars.

An absolute gem
geeakyol30 July 2022
As with most other Turkish movies I have seen, the acting is beyond superb. The story, although too coincidental, is still believable and plausible. I have really enjoyed this. If you like romantic movies, you will be sorry to have missed it if you do not watch it.

A Movie most would find memories of themselves
junk-8276326 February 2022
I would recommend this movie with a good glass of wine and low lighting. The story is stong, characters are realistic and flashbacks are appropriate. Despite some parts are stretched to maximum, overall it gives a good flow of events that keeps the attention of the audience to the story. Main characters acts suberb, needless to stay the best is always the parents roles. You would feel that they are the parents, not actors.

It was a good two hours spend and I enjoyed most moments of it. Fully recommend.

Nice
fevziserhat7 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
It is arguably the most successful production of romantic melodrama films in recent years. It is not a perfect production, but it has a plot that exceeds the audience's expectations. The story of Özgür and Deniz is like a modern-day Leyla and Mecnun, Ferhat and Sirin, or a failed work by Director Omer Faruk Sorak. Of course, this is not just a director's job. Including advertisements, projects and other works. It has a story that hurts people deeply. I found the acting very successful. Mehmet Gunsur and Belcim Bilgin were very compatible. The only negative aspect of the movie; The coincidences almost peaked towards the end. I think this was unnecessary. The necessity of leaving everything to taste showed itself here.
