James Van Der Beek had already been acting for several years when the movie that would change everything for him was released. “‘Being John Malkovich,’ to me, was the reason to be famous; to get to do something like that,” he told IndieWire. “I remember watching what John Malkovich did in that, I thought, ‘That is the coolest fucking thing I’ve ever seen a famous person do.'”
So when Van Der Beek started working on the new Viceland series “What Would Diplo Do?” with Spike Jonze (who directed the 1999 modern classic), “to be able to pitch him this whole idea and get his take on it was a dream.”

Could this mark the final stage of a comeback for James Van Der Beek? The "Dawson's Creek" star hasn't quite matched the post-show success of Michelle Williams, Joshua Jackson or even Katie Holmes, but 2012 seems to be a bit of a turning point. He's a regular on the new ABC series "Don't Trust The B---- In Apt. 23" and despite roles in a string of less than notable movies over the past few years (and that's not counting his infamous deleted scenes from Todd Solodnz's "Storytelling"), he's now notched a role that will find him acting opposite Kate Winslet and Josh Brolin. Not bad.
THR reports that Van Der Beek has come on board Jason Reitman's "Labor Day." Based on Joyce Maynard's book of the same name, the film is set on a late summer Labor Day holiday weekend in the 1980s. And it opens with a divorced, depressed...

What if James Van Der Beek hadn't cried in that infamous scene on The WB's "Dawson's Creek"?
"It wasn't scripted," Van Der Beek told HuffPost TV via phone. "I remember being completely surprised by it because it was completely sincere. The fact that it's being used to mock me now, I think it's so funny," he said with a laugh.
It's been nearly nine years since "Dawson's Creek" signed off the air. But for Van Der Beek, who played the titular character throughout its six seasons, Dawson hasn't really gone anywhere. The Dawson Crying Face meme has spawned a website, a viral video, many laughs and tangentially, a new TV show for Van Der Beek. This week, the now-35-year-old father of two returns to the small screen as a characterization of himself on ABC's "Don't Trust The B---- In Apartment 23" (premieres Wednesday, April 11 at 9:30 p.m. Et...

Well, it’s about time! After watching his Dawson’s Creek co-stars mature into a two-time Oscar nominee, a cult TV show lead, and a Batman Begins star and wife of a global megastar, James Van Der Beek is finally getting his chance to shine: EW has confirmed Deadline’s report that the former teen heartthrob has nabbed a role in ABC’s Don’t Trust the Bitch in Apt. 23 pilot. It gets better: In the pilot, Van Der Beek will be playing… himself. This news makes me so happy, I could do this.
