Some of this TV season’s blood has already been spilled — looking at you, “NCIS: Hawai’i” — but as we head toward upfronts week, there are still a number of broadcast shows “on the bubble.”
But as the networks settle in on a diet of mostly stable franchises and fewer series pilots, there’s also less primetime schedule frenzy this year. The days before upfronts week which would normally mean a rapid fire few days of broadcast series renewals and cancellations announcements. But normal left the building a long time ago.
The broadcast network portion of upfronts has been so significantly pared down from years past that it hardly resembles what it used to be. These days, most of the broadcast networks announce renewals and cancellations well ahead of their actual presentations.
Take CBS, which has already announced its new fall and spring schedules as well as all of its renewals and cancellations.

TV Insider can first exclusively reveal that Jenifer Lewis will be performing “Dig A Little Deeper” from The Princess & The Frog on the May 12 episode. The award-winning actress/activist, stage performer, and author starred in Black-ish for eight seasons. She can be seen most recently as Patricia in the Showtime series I Love That For You and guest-starring on the Not Dead Yet Season 2 finale. The Broadway star was also recently revealed as Miss Cleocatra on The Masked Singer. This multi-hyphenate has also sold out the Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall. She received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2022. One of TV’s most iconic families gets a chance to say goodbye.
Deadline reports that The Conners is nearing an official pickup at ABC for Season 7.
The caveat is that it would be the Roseanne follow-up’s final season of around six episodes.
A deal is still being ironed out but is expected to be finalized relatively soon. John Goodman, Laurie Metcalf, Sara Gilbert, and Lecy Goranson are among the cast members expected to return.
Many final seasons of long-running shows lose cast members due to the ever-increasing costs of making TV.
A consistent performer for ABC since it premiered, the show has much softer ratings than Roseanne – all following Roseanne’s controversial cancellation in 2018.
The Conners debuted following Roseanne’s cancellation
Roseanne returned earlier in 2018 to blockbuster viewership but was canceled after series star Roseanne Barr’s controversial comments about Valerie Jarrett.

Exclusive: Good news for The Conners fans. The Roseanne follow-up, which just marked its 100th episode, will be getting a seventh season. The renewal is being finalized, with a short order to wrap the story expected, sources said. I hear it will be around six episodes, and the main cast, including John Goodman, Laurie Metcalf, Sara Gilbert and Lecy Goranson, is expected to return.
Six seasons in, The Conners, from Tom Werner’s Werner Entertainment, remains a sturdy ratings performer. It will now join Abbott Elementary as the second ABC comedy series renewed for next season; Not Dead Yet remains in limbo, its renewal odds are pretty low.

Not Dead Yet began as a high-quality soap opera. Although the topic of ghosts in TV series, even those not belonging to the horror genre, is not new, the writers of the show starring Gina Rodriguez managed to come up with a really catchy premise – the journalist starts writing obituaries and begins to see the ghosts of the people she writes about.
The first season immediately made thousands of viewers fall in love with the show. The fans praised Not Dead Yet for its light-hearted vibe, witty humor, and thought-out characters. Unfortunately, Not Dead Yet suffered the fate of many other shows – the second season clearly failed to live up to the high bar set by the first.
Not Dead Yet’s Season 2 Finale Became The Best Episode of The Whole Show
In the worst soap opera tradition, the characters' actions became unreasonable and the plot itself started to look more like a mess.

[Warning: The following contains Major spoilers for the two-part Not Dead Yet Season 2 finale, “Not the End Yet/Not a Ghost Yet.”] The charming ABC workplace/supernatural comedy Not Dead Yet finally addressed the lore of its leading lady’s supernatural abilities in its two-part Season 2 finale. Gina Rodriguez stars in the series as Nell Serrano, a print journalist on the obituary beat at a southern California newspaper who started being visited by the ghosts of her obit subjects her first day on this new job. Nell, a mess trying to get her life back together, has spent the last two seasons learning valuable lessons about not wasting the time you have from these ghosts and her living friends at work. So far, she’s the only person in the series who knows about her powers. In the April 24 finale, the comedy took its first swing at breaking the form of its typical ghost of the week format. The...

The same idea has already been a crucial part of another supernatural show from the 2000s, and many fans think it’s a big opportunity for a crossover.
Thanks to its compelling yet comedy-oriented plot, Not Dead Yet revives a good old cinematic tradition to push the real world and the beyond together in all the forms possible.
Though the show’s approach may be entirely renovated for the modern audience, the idea is in fact not — and some fans think that it may be a good reason for the Not Dead Yet plot diving into another story with a similar zest.
Not Dead Yet stars Gina Rodriguez as Nell Serrano whose dream of becoming a famous writer seems shattered by the reality where she calls off her wedding with a long-time boyfriend, comes back to Los Angeles after living in London for a long time and ends up writing obituaries.

CBS has canceled CSI: Vegas after three seasons and So Help Me Todd after two. The news is not surprising as Deadline revealed earlier this week that both dramas were heavily on the bubble and in grave danger.

Second in a series on broadcast network series renewals. This is a rarity — it’s still mid-April and ABC has already made decisions on all of its existing drama series.
The popular Nathan Fillion cop series The Rookie was the last to get word yesterday with a Season 7 renewal after some intense negotiations with the show’s new lead studio, Lionsgate, which acquired The Rookie producer eOne in December. It joins recently renewed Grey’s Anatomy, 9-1-1 and Will Trent, with The Good Doctor and Station 19 ending their runs.

Sam, who was separated from her husband now, had all the time in the world to research relationships. Tj had asked Nell about joining the softball match between SoCal and a rival television news channel.

Episode four of the current season of Not Dead Yet ended with Tj forgiving Nell for her behavior, and there was an indication of them getting romantically involved. Lexi decided to go back to the two-floor office system because she realized she cared about her employees and their well-being, and she wanted to turn out like her father.

Was Nell Still Unaware Of The Affair?
Nell was still unaware of Edward’s clandestine meetings with Lexi. Lexi had spent a lot of nights at Nell and Edward’s, but most of the time, Nell was too sleepy to even notice who Edward was sleeping with. Edward’s straightforward nature of not disclosing who he was with was also the reason behind Nell’s trying to keep herself out of her roommate’s private life. Lexi and Edward made sure not to disclose their rendezvous to anybody, especially at her place of residence.
