The people saying the lead character cannot act, ARE YOU CR*ZY?!!!
akannostacy24 February 2023
Give Gina Rodriguez her flowers! She was literally the titular character of Jane the Virgin and she carried the whole show on her back for more than 6 years! Don't play with her! She's amazing and she was definitely perfect here and her comedic timing was on point. The fact that she can act diverse characters on different tv shows, just shows how dynamic and talented she is. Plus I also cannot leave this review until the required character completes 600 words, so I'm just gonna remind people who says Gina Rodriguez is a terrible actress, to S*ck it lol! Anyways, this show is amazing. Not the best, but amazing either ways. At least you wouldn't have the urge to gouge your eyes out.

Funny, sad and just an easy watch!
jjuji-4749727 March 2023
Initially saw some clips of this show on TikTok and I am so glad I watched the full show. I really like it, it's short and sweet episodes and not too serious. Lauren Ash from Superstore is amazing as Lexi and it's nice to see some other familiar faces (Sam is Cece from New Girl). I found it funny, sweet and really touching at times especially with Monty and Cricket. It has its cliches at times but it's light hearted and has some good punchlines so it's all good. Definitely give it a watch!

P.s Gina Rodriguez doesn't deserve the hate, not sure why people are saying she can't act??? C'mon guys!

Season 1 was good, season 2... not so much
gdump2 March 2024
Season 1 focussed on the ghosts and the insights they passed on. It was creative and even emotional on occasion.

Unfortunately, someone seems to have decided on a different direction for season 2. It is now all about the office and the over-the-top characters that inhabit it. It is in most ways a clone of "Superstore" and other similar sitcoms with outlandish characters.

This would be fine if this was how they started out, but it is not what I'm looking for. I now consider it to be 2 essentially separate shows comprising season 1 "Not Dead Yet" and season 2+ of "Generic Office Environment Sitcom."

If you're looking for the ghostly connection, stop watching after season 1.

My score is the average of 7 for season 1 and 5 for season 2.

Loving it!
sunggyyu6 May 2023
This show has kept getting better and better every new episode, also I really have fallen in love with all of her friends. I can't wait to see where it goes, and I like that they're not rushing anything because it makes the relationships forming seem a little more real. I understand people want to know why she is seeing ghosts but that would end the show in one season! If it's something that helps her cope or she's genuinely seeing them it doesn't matter. It helps her character and she is able to make their obituaries more genuine in the process. I will keep coming back to watch the newest episodes.

An easy and relatable watch
teachronicles9 February 2023
As a woman in my 30's I thoroughly enjoyed Not Dead Yet. The quippy humor is ideal for the subject matter. Although life is not always a breeze, we are not dead yet! I found myself laughing out loud numerous times.

The lead character Nell, is figuring out how to move on after her life does not go according to plan. She does this with the help of some unconventional guidance that helps her to grow as a person.

Gina Rodriguez is perfect in the role of Nell. She is charming and funny. Rodriguez along with the writing, make the show an enjoyable experience.

An easy and relatable watch. I am looking forward to seeing how the storyline and all of the characters progress.

Love this show so much!!!
nancyrogers-6179429 March 2023
My daughter and I love this show soo much and always look forward to the new episodes. She's 14 and I'm 37 and it's just the perfect show to sit and watch together without it being *too much* we have laughed and teared up. I hope it has many many more episodes/seasons to come!! The cast is awesome and I don't understand how anyone could possibly hate on Gina. She's amazing 👏🏼 but it's truly a little bit of everyone on this show to make it what is is and make it happen. Can't wait to see more!!!! So to the writers, producers, network etc. THANK YOU for this great show!! I know it will be a hit :)

Better than I Expected
Puckers23 March 2023
I wasn't initially expecting much from this show. I decided to give it a watch out of boredom and was surprised it was actually pretty good.

Not a huge fan of the main characters, but the side characters have all been fantastic. Nell (Gina) can be a tad over the top annoying at times, but is tolerable for the most part. Lexi (Lauren) is almost a carbon copy of her character from Superstore. Sam (Hannah) is probably the only character that seems okay.

The episodes have been well written for the most part, even with some annoying parts sprinkled in. As a whole, I look forward to watching this show now.

Feel good comfort show
danielleadames-7125524 April 2023
I started watching this show to pass time while doing homework and ended up falling in love. Between the cutesy life messages and erractic characters there's not much to dislike. Gina Rodriguez and the supporting cast all play their roles very well. Not Dead Yet feels very well rounded and as though there is a character everyone can identify with. I do hope the show keeps renewing seasons and we keep getting introduced to more mathematicians, sports newscasters, poets, tv stars, doctors, etc. Just in the first season there have been laughs and tears so I hope the show's writers can keep the momentum going!

Surprisingly good
jmuqbv10 February 2023
This show had NO business making me shed tears on the first episode! It's simple, cute, and relatable. I didn't go into this show with much expectation, but I was surprised at how well written it was. I was wouldn't call it amazing yet but I definitely like it already! I liked Gina and Hannah from their original respective shows, "Jane the Virgin," and "New Girl" and I like them a lot here too. You can't help but initially kind of dislike Nell but the show gently reminds us that people are flawed and life is short. Watch it for a little laugh and maybe a few tears. I'm eager to see what the rest of the season will bring and where they take the storyline!

It's Network Pablum
genious-3541313 February 2023
I wanted to like the show. I like all of the people in it and was especially excited about Martin Mull and Rick Glassman. But the show is just too filled with cliches from other network comedies and I'm just left feeling like I've watched a show I've already seen countless times. It's tiring. But I'm sure it will do well because network TV has nothing else to put on. I guess I should consider myself lucky that I didn't have to hear the tired and overused catchphrase of 'Wait, WHAT?' But they checked enough of the other go-to tropes that it just makes it unwatchable for me. It's tiring to watch.

Strong Writing + Strong Acting, 10 Stars for its Genre
breindelw7 May 2023
If you liked Drop Dead Diva (before the mother gets a shot in her g spot aka it jumped the shark), you will also like Not Dead Yet. Yes because they both deal with supernatural topics, but mostly because they're both done in a very lighthearted shallow tone. And I mean shallow in only the best sense of the word. There's nothing dark or frightening here. The writing is a little better than Diva because in NDY, every once in a while, the humor within a line and the actors' deliveries take me by surprise and I literally laugh out loud. I also liked the meet-cute with Nell's roommate Edward, realizing he will become her love interest. Gina Rodriguez, Hannah Simone (from New Girl), Lauren Ash, Rick Glassman, and Josh Banday, Maile Flanagan and Jimmy Belinger are all on. Point. With strong acting, the tone of this genre, and in-the-moment comedic choices. The actors. Angela Elayne Gibbs and Martin Mull are more part of the poignant c story older couple transcendent romance and are masters of their craft. I hope there's a Season 2!

It's fun! It's irreverent and rude! What's not to like?
thejdrage10 February 2023
No. This show is NOT Ghosts. This show is its own show.

The lead actress is funny and open and lost. She's trying to find her way on Ticktock. !!

After the second episode, the roommate is opening up - and things are getting even funnier. I give her credit for learning from people she is forced to deal with - has no choice in the matter. They are who they are and they are dead so they don't have to be anything they don't want to be!!! Holy cow! Watch out! I know what I'd be like if I were give the golden ticket to say exactly what I want to to everyone!

The cast is great. The one flaw I find is the silliness with the Lauren Ash character, Lexi. It goes a bit broad and is often too much. Lauren Ash deserves better. It cost them 1 star.

This show is FUN! It's not quite bubble gum for the brain, but I know that I won't have to do any heavy lifting or thinking. I can just watch and enjoy. And maybe take away a nugget or two.

Want to like this show but it's a chore to bring myself to watch it
lpresti-1155415 March 2023
Everything should be good . I like all the actors . Some I know to be very funny . A 30 minute comedy or maybe it's supposed to be a drama. I don't believe any of the writers cared that to decide. In the end though the show is just boring. Hard to watch .

It has no direction and is headed no where . There are funny moments but not really as funny to keep you watching no character development no explanation as to why she's seeing ghosts, are the ghosts real, why do they need her to write their obituary . I guess it doesn't really matter if there's no growth for this show but unfortunately it is not funny enough to have no background, character development or direction .

Quality content you just don't find on tv anymore.
rachel_kroll8 May 2023
By far the best show I have watched in a very long time. Television struggles to hold my attention, but this show never fails to capture every single one of my emotions. It perfectly balances being light hearted, yet extremely touching. The cast selection is perfect. Each actress/actor plays their role so well. The comedy is the perfectly rounded to all audiences, and the precipice of each show is always so emotionally engulfing. Every episode if highly relatable, regardless of the scenario and whether the viewer has experienced the same. I am so glad to say I have found my comfort show, and would highly recommend this show to anyone!

Rodriguez Fits Perfectly Into Peculiar Plot
deepfrieddodo7 November 2023
Not Dead Yet throws together the typical sitcom trope of a down-on-their-luck protagonist struggling through life with witty exasperation and a sense of humour, with a supernatural element to steer narrative and zany plots.

A newly single journalist moves back to her hometown after her relationship overseas breaks down. Returning to the workplace where all those around her have advanced, she is placed at the bottom of the ladder. Given the new assignment of writing obituaries, she is visited by the ghost of each of the recently deceased, each with their own story to tell and lesson to bestow.

The series is a lot of fun, with Rodriguez a relatable lead reacting to the ridiculous around her in a fun and engaging way. A roster of endearing characters, with one intentionally dislikeable antagonist-turned-ally; however the intention doesn't make her scenes any more enjoyable. Dialogue can be sharp and reacted to well, providing great comedy, but does also stray into the generic sitcom banter.

Sweet and full of heart, Not Dead Yet occasionally touches on heavier plot points but succeeds overall by sticking to the trivial and funny.

Its a good show. Current topics and funny.
mda-wilson16 February 2023
The show has a nifty premise, journalist writing obituaries sees ghosts. Lead is well portrayed by Gina Rodriguez and the ensemble after episode 2 is comfortably diverse and work well together. Liked it quite a lot so far. Direct comedy is a bit mid but the situational is great. These are adults navigating life and finding themselves, very fun to watch. Best part is of course Cece from New Girl. In terms of its ghost of the week format i do not see much potential for the story line to change so doubt if it will be a mutli season show. The characters have a broad life and there is room for so much more than the theme to be shown. Gina has a fun delivery in the lead and is so relatable for someone adjusting to a new life like her ghost friends.

Fun and easy to watch
denizguvener26 May 2023
Started watching with low expectations never having seen any other shows the lead has been in. I must say I am positively surprised, as the first season of Not Dead Yet proved to be light-hearted, funny and honestly an easy watch, and there is nothing wrong with that, imo. The different (ghost) characters that appear each episode help keep the plot fresh as they all serve a purpose in the lead character Nell's life and the acting, at least for the most part, is good and does not feel forced. I did not love all the supporting characters but who knows, maybe I will as the show progresses and more is revealed about their depths, as well. So far so good for some laughs and (very few) tears, and I will be looking out for season 2!

I've watched the entire 1st season
petalock-895044 May 2023
This show gives me everything I want in a 22min comedy, laughs and the feels. I love Nell as she's such a real person who's dealing with life after a hard break up and is just doing her best. She's not perfect, but still likeable. Her roommate is hilarious and sweet, and all supporting cast have something to offer and are pretty fleshed out characters for short comedy. There are themes of death, friendship, jealousy, grief, love and hope. I hope this show gets another season as there is so much potential for stories and growth for all characters.

The writing is really clever and actors are all perfectly cast.

Decent, funny show! But what is up with wardrobe????
capurafarol-5059025 April 2024
Very good writing in that the comedy is free flowing and doesn't feel forced. The concept is sound, even though they don't really spend a whole lot of time on the dead folks at all. You get about 3-4 minutes set on the basis of the show; that the main character can converse with dead people for whom she is writing their obituaries. I liked initially the main character seemed to learn from life lessons from those dead people, but now the focus has nothing to do with that. It is fun to see some big actor cameos playing the dead.

But worst rating goes to the wardrobe department! They don't even get one star!! They are awful!! Every episode the things that they make the actors wear are ridiculous and looks like clothes they couldn't sell at the local Goodwill are being used as costumes for the show. Absolutely horrible and most people wouldn't wear what these people are wearing.....ever!

It's. not. horrible.
RealRealReal831 March 2023
It's not horrible, but it's also not great. The show has its moments that are sweet and some that are mildly funny, but the majority of the "comedic" parts are just either really corny or over-the-top.

Gina Rodriguez is great as the main character, Nell, and Lauren Ash is great (as always). The guest stars are mostly well-known actors.

The show isn't bad or good but it definitely feels like it's missing something. The premise is her talking to dead people with it being a different dead person each episode. Unfortunately, there isn't an ongoing plot outside of that that connects the storylines between episodes.

I love Gina, always will!
divyacutie14 July 2023
Gina's quirks is what draws me to her and of course she damn well can act!!! I'm glad I stumbled upon this. It made me smile, laugh and cry. What more could you ask for in a tv show..

Completely forgot about Hannah Simone after New Girl and I think she still is a great bff.

Love the diverse cast and their chemistry with one another other.. I don't get why shows like Pretty Little Liars get such high ratings but make zero sense.

Not dead yet is relatable and gets you to reflect on life and the choices you've made thus far. Sorry I got carried away.

Ignore the negative ratings and give it a shot!

Enjoyable
hughjman28 April 2023
I enjoy this show. It's not really a comedy or drama - it's just somewhere in the middle. The writing is smart enough that I don't feel it's a wasted half hour. Gina Rodrigues, the lead is wonderful.

Dull
kalakoori19 February 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I really admired the premise from the trailers but was concerned over Gina Rodriguez's performance. In watching the actual show, she's fine but the acting over all is still not good. Hannah Simone seems like she doesn't want to be there. Lauren Ash reads like a high school theatre student and I'd rank her performance to be the worst.

The premise falls apart too. Normally obituaries are written by the deceased loved ones. However in this show main character Nell writes them as her designated position, which would suggest that they have no loved ones to write obituaries for them. Yet Nell's obituaries are praised by the deceased's loved ones because it seems like she actually knew them, which would suggest they have loved ones that knew them adequately and had the ability to write their own obituaries without the risk of someone writing anything that sounded impersonal. The first episode Nell even meets the dead guy's wife--why wouldn't she write it? In another episode the influencer character dies and Nell's boss says that writing a good obituary for her would bring more press to the newspaper which no it wouldn't. Maybe fans of the influencer would read the newspaper obituary but what on earth would compel them to become loyal readers of the paper? The writing chops of the obituary writer? Besides an influencers death would get attention from Buzzfeed so there. Why did I write this review? Because I was annoyed by those things specifically. It just feels like it was written by people who couldn't be bothered.

GREAT SHOW!
ofnature056910 February 2023
NO! It's not ghosts. There can't be another show with a ghost in it. Seriously! Why would you want two shows that are the same ha-ha. But. Really This is a great show with an original storyline. Why even compare it to Ghosts, yes Ghosts is a good show but so is Not Dead Yet! And Gina Rodriguz is a very good actress. She is perfect for this part. She was amazing in so many shows. E.g., Jane The Virgin, Annihilation, Miss Bala, Awake, as well as the voice of several animations shows, and that's just to name a few. I love the story. So imaginative and cute. An obituary writer with the ghost of the story telling her about the life they had, so adorable and funny. And has absolutely nothing to do with the storyline of the show Ghosts, except a ghost, that's it. It is worth watching. If you are ready for a laugh and a good time, then make a bowl of popcorn and cozy up on the couch for a cute show that is original and full of actors and actresses that fit the part.

No one sets out to make something bad intentionally just cuz u didn't connect with it doesn't mean that someone else didn't We should be kinder to media we consume

Because art is subjective

Not every show gets it right at first a lot of shows need time to grow and course correct.
