Sex & Nudity

  • None. A number of young boys and little boys, nevertheless, in a few scenes, can be seen in their underpants (briefs). Also, a young teenage boy and a young teenage girl show some tame romantic interest in one another.
  • In the museum during their school field trip, they admire a Greek statue which is entirely naked including genitalia.

Violence & Gore

  • No gore. The extent of the overt violence includes: a man pointing a pistol at another man's face, a child holding a knife to another child's neck, some mild brawls, general acts of intimidation, and arson.
  • A team of children who have organized themselves into something of a combatant force light up the wicks around the tips of arrows with fire and, using bows, fire the arrows onto the roof of a distant hut occupied by children belonging to the rival faction. The occupants escape unharmed.
  • In two instances, a crowd of children harass a child and physically restrain him as one among the crowd slices off the buttons of the victim child's clothing.
  • Per the setting of the story, with an occupation by the Nazi Wehrmacht afoot, the characters are faced with an emerging police state whereby civilians are hauled away at will, and some members of an underground resistance group amassing arms are depicted.
  • As an apparent intimidation measure and scare tactic, there is some talk among children of castrating a child whom they have intercepted and captured.
