Maybe if you "get it" then it is awesome, but I really doubt it
So, six years after it was made I decided to watch this film on the basis of the short film channel I subscribe to generally giving me good or at least interesting films. I say "good or" because some average films can still be worth seeing because it is interesting to see what they were trying to do, what didn't work, things like this. With Au! though I do have to say that it fell into neither camp because it was neither good nor interesting to me. If the goal was to get multiple viewings of the film then I guess it succeeded because I did watch this a couple of times because it made so little sense that I thought I must just be missing it.
Perhaps I still am, but I really didn't follow the animation moving between mosquitoes, people and anthropomorphized mosquitoes. The animation didn't seem to have any point to it, which I don't mind too much because sometimes shorts work as a mix of audio and visual experience more than a narrative one. Sadly here too I found nothing. To my taste the animation was ugly and crude and the soundtrack was poor. Maybe if you "get it" then it is amazingly clever and I'm sure, with all art, for every person taking away nothing, there is another person weeping with the beauty of it all. That said, after six years this title doesn't have a single comment on IMDb and has not even hit the minimal vote threshold of five viewers, so if that weeping lover is out there to balance me out, then they haven't found this film here yet. To me, it was ugly and pointless – although at least it was short.
