First, the good things. The production design and locations were great. The props and weapons seemed authentic and accurate to the times. Even the makeup looked good.
HOWEVER, I found the story to be self indulgent. This 2 hour movie could have easily be 90 minutes without losing any of the plot or story and the ending certainly does not reward the audience for sticking around until the end. There was far too much narration and dialogue and the emotion felt forced and unauthentic.
The way this movie was shot and framed felt like I was watching a student film rather than an actual movie. And then to top it off, the English subtitles had many grammatical and punctuation errors. I'm not really sure why this film got distribution or awards, but if you're looking for a French WWII movie to watch, this one is not it.
