As bad as the title suggests

"Die Trödelqueen - Gelegenheit Macht Liebe" is a German television film from 2011, so this one will soon have its 10th anniversary and maybe it happened already, depending on when you read this revie of mine. In the title of my review i already made myself very clear what I think about this movie's title. And also about the movie in general. But first the title: Actually, you could say that with the - in-between, it's titles at once. And as if the word "Trödelqueen" is not pathetic enough already, they must follow up on it with altering a relatively fammous German saying. The pathetic thing, however, is that this alteration really has almost absolutely nothing to do with this movie at all. It could be used for every movie that has some romance to it basically. Then again, it fits because the romance here is as uninspired as the title. But still they went through with it all. Ridiculous. The most pathetic thing is that really teh two people who made this were very experienced already, even back then in 2011. Director Tiefenbacher has been in the industry since the mid90s. Writer Willinger has been active since the 1980s already. I won't go too hard on Tiefenbacher because a director can only do so much with a terrible script, even if it seems to me as if he is still low Verbotene Liebe level the way he launched his career. However, Willinger deserves the full blame. If you do the maths, then she has been in the industry for pretty much exactly 25 years when she came up with the screenplay here. Not an anniversary to be proud of though because apparently she is all quantity and zero quality. As she has proved on many Bavarian-themed projects. This one here is a bit of an exception. So actually impressive how she managed such a long career despite her absence of vision. Can't really blame here. the ones truly at fault are those who keep chosing her for their movies. Now, as for the cast, the title character is played by Mariele Millowitsch. I think I kinda liked her when I was younger with her trademark television show or at least i did not find her as poor as I do today. Have seen her in some trashy movies and she has barely three different face expressions throughout one film and also has a tendency to play the same character in all these movies. This one here is not an exception. By now, I am pretty convinced that she would maybe never have a career if it wasn't for her famous father. Katharina Müller-Elmau is on the verge of being a co-lead, but can also be seen as a key supporting player. Not much to say about her. Don't see to much talent either. Martin Feifel, however, is better than the two ladies, not much probably, but still. No idea why accepts parts like these, especially because the way his character was written was truly an abomination. And another somewhat known cast member here is Konstantin Wecker although he barely has any screen time, pretty much a one scene performance in which his only task is courting the female co-lead.

You see what you get here. In Hollywood, there are talks about lack of meaningful roles for female actors and if we take a look at this film here, then it is definitely true the other way around. Already mentioned Wecker, but Feifel is even worse because he has nothing to do all movie than run after Millowitsch's character like a dog. Pathetic. Let's ignore the fact that he is ten years younger than her (even if she admittedly also looks younger than she is) and that she should be grateful that a much younger man expresses interest in her all the time. But hey, she is a classy woman, so she has to play hard to get. It's so ridiculous how men are displayed in this film. But hey, it's Degeto. It's the rule really, not an exception. So the third man who plays a vital role is the one who unites these two women, even if he is dead now. And what was he? A cheater of course. In their desperate attempts to make this film as interesting as possible they really go all in with their hatred against men. The most pathetic thing is probably that this was even directed by a man. But let me also say that I applaud every female audience member whho sees through all this and sees the movie for the uninspired manipulative trash that it actually is. There are many scenes and examples to pick from. I shall spare you these. You get the message anyway. Or at least I hope you did. if you see any class whatsoever in this movie, then I have little to no hope for you. Sorry. The only genre here on imdb is comedy, so very telling that this is a movie where you will not laugh once I suppose. And of course, even if Millowitsch's is the central character, they cannot have a female character at the center of the story and that female character would be unlikable. As a consequence, the two women need to cooperate and overcome their initial struggles and backgrounds and the final verdict is not only that they have financial success, but that the deceased was the bad guy and the two woman are alright. Well, actually this was not the final verdict, but one we get pretty quickly. Before I finish my review, just one example I give you here, namely the final scene inside the plane when Feifel's character for the first time gets to kiss Millowitsch's. The cringe was so hard when he is talking about how he planned every second of the flight and how long he has to kiss her. Oh my. So yes you heard right, he is even an alpha male who knows how to fly a plane, but still no quick and easy relationship with a mourning widow like Millowitsch's character. Sigh. It's enough now I suppose. I hope I can forget about this mess of a movie quickly. The only good thing I have to say about the outcome here is that the title with the - could have implied that there will be a sequel eventually, maybe even a series of films with these two women in the lead, but luckily this never happened and the count stayed at one movie and with all the time passed since then, it is safe to say there will be no second movie. One is one too many nonetheless. Big thumbs-down for these slightly under 1.5 hours. Highly not recommended.
