Exclusive: Taryn Manning (Hawaii Five-0) has been cast in a major 9-episode arc on Orange Is The New Black, Netflix’s new 13-episode hourlong series from Weeds creator Jenji Kohan. It centers on Piper (Taylor Schilling), an engaged Brooklynite whose decade-old relationship with a drug-runner (Laura Prepon) in college results in her arrest and multi-year detention in a federal penitentiary. Manning will play inmate Tiffany Doggett, a wild child from Waynesboro, Virginia. Better known as “Pennsatucky” for her Appalachian way of speaking, she’s a born-again Evangelical with underlying anger issues who doesn’t mix well with others. Manning, repped by Apa and manager Oren Segal, also recurred on FX’s Sons Of Anarchy. Up-and-comer Richard Kohnke has booked a recurring role on the CW’s upcoming drama The Carrie Diaries, a prequel to Sex And The City that centers on teen Carrie Bradshaw (AnnaSophia Robb) living in the 1980s.

Exclusive: USA Network’s head of scripted development Bill McGoldrick has been elevated to Evp, original scripted programming. He will continue to oversee all USA scripted development of drama and comedy series, long-form and event programming, reporting to Jeff Wachtel, who serves as co-president of USA alongside Chris McCumber. “Bill has an incredible track record in developing and managing the success of our strong and diverse slate of scripted programming,” said Wachtel. McGoldrick is a homegrown USA talent, having started at the network in 1998 as an executive assistant. Fifteen months after it signaled a move into half-hour comedy development with its first half-hour script buy under the current regime, top-rated cable network USA has greenlighted its first two half-hour comedy pilots in more than a decade: an untitled Douglas McGrath project (formerly On We Go), executive produced by Nathan Lane who is negotiations to star, and Michael Feldman’s Paging Dr. Freed. “The pickup of these half-hour comedy pilots underscores our commitment to broadening the appeal of USA’s entertainment brand,” said the network’s co-presidents Jeff Wachtel and Chris McCumber. The orders put USA well on track to hit its goal of having half-hour series on the air by the fall 2013 launch of the network’s high-profile off-network acquisition, ABC hit Modern Family. The network has more half-hour scripts in development. Of the 12 series projects on its development slate announced at the USA upfront in May, five were half-hour.
