Sex & Nudity

  • The main character's poster has a naked woman. Boobs can be seen.
  • A statue of a naked person can be seen, after the main character has walked out of a crowded train.
  • There are some references to dating, marriage, and sleeping with women.
  • A man is bathing, only his shoulders and head are seen.
  • Two people have sex, until one of them says she's hungry.
  • A man masturbates a woman, but his organ of his manhood refuses to respond to the excitement.
  • A man urinates.
  • A woman holds a dildo, and masturbates a man. The masturbation itself happens off-screen, and all we see are the upper bodies of the two people.
  • A man sees a graffiti of a naked woman at public toilet, and new graffitis pop up next time he gets into the same place. The latter graffitis can be seen moving as if they had come to life, and moaning can be heard clearly.
  • A man uses his markers to draw a naked woman on a wall, but is discovered by a woman who calls him "pervert".
  • In a fantasy sequence, an American soldier has sex with a Japanese woman. Near the end, the same woman presses her father into her body, leading to a rough, incestous sex.

Violence & Gore

  • A nuclear bomb explodes at Hiroshima. The main character gets many disturbing sights of suffering or dead people during the aftermath. Many of the victims have been burnt.
  • A man kills another man, by smashing his head with a stone.
  • In one surreal scene, a drawn man who appears on a manga hits an another drawn man.
  • A man destroys his gramophone player with his fist, and removes a poster from his wall, all in rage.
  • A man has his left arm decapitated by a machine, lots of blood spurt.
  • A monkey is brutally attacked by a bunch of other monkeys, and is seen lying on it's pool of blood.
  • A man vomits in the middle of a crowd.
  • A surreal sequence shows a train colliding with rocks, which had already fallen on it's track. This is made in comic style, as a purpose of an inspiration a manga artist is getting.
  • A man gets a nausea, and vomits a lot on a wall and floor, due to having pushed himself to eat.

Profanity

  • "Hell" and "God" are uttered sometimes.
  • There may be some profanities, such as "f**k" and "whore", but what's being said depends on the translation.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • Scenes showing smoking and alcohol consumption.
  • Two scenes involve any female character wanting to drink alcohol, in order to get drunk.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • Most of the Hiroshima scenes, especially the part in which the main character sees the burnt bodies of mother and child, can be upsetting to some people.
  • Some of the scenes which take place throughout the film may be emotional.
