Michael Jackson and Janet Jackson’s “Scream” is often cited as the most expensive music video ever made. The director of the video hates this claim. He said that one Guns N’ Roses clip and another clip from the King of Pop cost way more.
Michael Jackson ‘Scream’ cost millions but it’s not the most expensive music video ever
Mark Romanek directed the music video for “Scream.” He also helmed the videos for Nine Inch Nails’ “Closer” and Taylor Swift’s “Shake It Off.” During a 2010 interview with Slashfilm, Romanek acknowledged that The Guinness Book of World Records claims “Scream” is the most expensive music video ever made due to its hefty $7 million price tag. Romanek said the book isn’t accurate.
Romanek said Guns N’ Roses made a video with oil tankers that cost $9 million or $10 million. The director couldn’t remember the name of Guns N’ Roses’ song,...

Guns N’ Roses played the penultimate show of their 2023 tour at L.A.’s Hollywood Bowl on Thursday night, and they used the occasion to debut “The General.” “This could be very interesting,” Rose told the crowd. “If there’s ever a better place to fall on your face, I think this fuckin’ counts.” Check out a fan-shot video.
“The General” is one of many Chinese Democracy-era songs fans learned about long before the album came out. Former Skid Row vocalist Sebastian Bach raved about it in a series of interviews.

The historic Power Trip festival kicked off on Friday night (October 6th) in Indio, California. The three-day event features six of the biggest hard rock and heavy metal acts in the world, with two bands performing each night.
Tens of thousands of fans descended upon the Empire Polo Club, the same site where Coachella is held every year. They were greeted by a giant devil-horn-shaped cactus, letting them know that they were in for a weekend of legendary rock music.
Guns N’ Roses and Iron Maiden had the honor of playing the first night, with Maiden taking the stage first at 6:55 p.m., about 10 minutes later than the advertised 6:45 set time.
Instead of playing a “greatest hits” set, as could have been expected at an event such as Power Trip, Maiden stuck with their current “Future Past World Tour” setlist, which features the band playing songs predominantly from their latest album,...

Last year Olivia Colman made history as the first woman to win a Best Drama Actress Emmy (for “The Crown”) after having received a Best Actress Oscar (for 2018’s “The Favourite”). More than a dozen other leading ladies preceded her in being awarded by both the film and TV academies, in that order, but she stands as the only one to earn her Emmy for a continuing drama series. Now, Reese Witherspoon could follow her example by succeeding on her first Best Drama Actress bid for Apple TV+’s “The Morning Show,” which has come 16 years after her lead Oscar win for “Walk the Line.”

One of John Mayer's songs will serve as the basis for a "major" new movie.
During a concert last night, the seven-time Grammy Award winner announced that "Walt Grace's Submarine Test, January 1967," a song from his 2012 album "Born & Raised," is being adapted into a film. The concert was live-streamed online in an effort to raise money to support the Montana community where he's lived for more than a decade, which experienced devastating flooding earlier this summer.
"I want to say one thing that might get me in trouble, 'cause that's what I do," Mayer said after finishing a rendition of "Walt Grace" on stage. "That song is soon to be a major motion picture. It's true. It's true. It's going to be a movie."

Branded the saviour of cinema, Christopher Nolan’s time-travelling sci-fi turned out more of a sacrificial lamb – and has totally spooked the industry
Releasing his lowest-grossing film since 2006’s The Prestige was probably not on Christopher Nolan’s agenda for 2020, but then nobody has had exactly the year they expected. Since his big, metallic sci-fi thriller Tenet finally hit cinemas in late August – after months of delay and deliberation – its box-office figures have been the subject of as much variable debate as its tangled, time-slipping plot.
After six weeks of global release, Tenet has grossed more than £235m worldwide – a number that means different things to different analysts. For a latter-day Nolan film, it’s borderline disastrous: far short of the £405m grossed by his last film, Dunkirk, which itself was a modest performer compared to the £830m racked up by The Dark Knight Rises. With a production budget around £154m,...

Estranged
Recently released on the new Frightfest Presents label, Estranged is the story of January (Amy Manson), a young woman who is seriously injured in a traffic accident and returns to her family home to recuperate – with no memory of her life before the accident happened. It’s a tense, claustrophobic drama that gradually takes on a more sinister aspect as, despite growing physically stronger, January comes to feel increasingly powerless and threatened. Adam Levins, the director, is better known as a cinematographer, and one of the first things one notices about Estranged is its striking beauty – it’s a very visual film. I asked him how much this owed to his past work.
“I can’t really take the credit for the cinematography because Gary [Shaw] is a really good cinematographer and he’s older than us too – he’s worked on stuff like Moon and Fortitude – I...

What’s this? I hear you cry. Nerdly reviewing a new British comedy? Yes, given the fact we tend to avoid British productions – especially those featuring football hooligans and/or gangsters, two “genres” which tend to proliferate the shelves of DVD stores and supermarkets everywhere (and two genres I consider the nadir in filmmaking) – and focus on mainly horror output from these shores, seeing Convenience reviewed on these pages may come as a shock. However never let it be said we (well, mostly I) won’t step out of our comfort zones once in a while. And this case I’m glad we did.

Zam Salim came away with the Best Director and Best Feature Film awards for his feature directorial debut, Up There, which was released in UK cinemas on Friday – if it’s playing in a theatre near you, this should definitely be encouragement enough to go and seek it out, if you haven’t done so already.
