If this film was gone, nobody would miss it

"Was weg is, is weg" (literal translation something like "If it's gone, it's gone.") also known as "Fronleichnam" is a German movie from 2012, so it had its 5th anniversary last year. This one runs for briefly under 1.5 hours, so it is not a long film by any means and it was written and directed by prolific actor Christian Lerch, who is most known for his work on another German movie "Wer früher stirbt, ist länger tot" from 6 years earlier even, also as a writer and it is a bit strange how he is more known for his work behind the movies than in front of the camera as the latter seems to be his day job. Anyway, the humor and comedy in this one here is very similar compared to the other one, more famous one, I just mentioned and you could maybe say it is a 2.0 version. Cast includes Brückner² and a few more German actors that film buffs from Central Europe may have come across in other projects. This is the story of three men, brothers who could not be more different, and the challenges they are facing in live including relationships with each other, but also with other characters, like potential love interests. Anyway, the tragic accident reference early on is a bit embarrassing and it added almost nothing in my opinion. Maybe it was a desperate attempt to once again enter the territory of Wfsilt or just to give the film more emotional gravity, but it feels really for the sake of it. Still there are okay moments like the smaller ones when one character starts singing in the car after the radio does not work anymore for example. But these are not frequent enough to make up for the central plot that did very little for me I would say. The comedy is very Bavarian-based and this means it is probably more suitable for people from Southern Germany and those from other areas may not be able to appreciate it that much. Of course it is not impossible to enjoy it if you are from somewhere else, but it clearly is more of a challenge, even if the accents are okay and you understand the protagonists fairly easily. All in all, it was the little moments that made it worth watching, but like I said the big general plot was underwhelming and the rushed in drama about car accidents and the danger of drowning felt for the sake of it and not too positive. That's why sadly all in all I have to give the film a thumbs-down, even if it is not a failure. Not recommended.
