If this isn't THE best episode so far, it's definitely one of the best. Seeing Clark (with no powers) be Superman to still make a difference to help people out, his coming to terms with not being able to help save the day beyond that, and the epic battle near the end.
I've been rooting for Jordan and Sarah. The way Alex Garfin portrays Jordan is superb. I cannot emphasize just how well he pulls off a character who is fumbling as a teenager as it is, but then with the added pressure of knowing he has powers, trying to learn and control those powers, understanding that he will need to be ready to use those powers that he didn't ask for, and all of the emotions that come with it. I actually care about his character because of how Garfin portrays him.
All that praise for the actor aside, it is part of the reason that I've been rooting for Jordan and Sarah, and this episode delivered. Having kept the family secret despite wanting to tell Sarah, it came to a point where he had to reveal himself in front of her, but it was a decision he made lightly. It might seem like a simple impulse decision and perhaps that what the writers were going for, but what actually happened was so much deeper than that.
Sarah was trying to get Jordan to open up but he wasn't. Lana appears and he shook his head to her (Lana) to let her know that he hadn't revealed the secret. Suddenly, Bizarro Lana appeared so that she could "merge" with regular Lana. Lana tries to get Sarah to go with her and Jordan tells her to run (for her own safety). Sarah starts to question it, meaning that she wasn't starting to leave, which in turn is putting Lana's life at risk because Lana isn't going to leave without her daughter. He had to get Sarah to leave not only for her safety, but for Lana's safety. Only way to end the discussion was to reveal his powers to her so she'd realize that he'll be fine but REALLY needs for her to run. It wasn't just a simple "Hey guess what, I have powers!" It was more of a "I know you care about me but you're in danger and there isn't time to discuss it.. I have powers and I can handle this, RUN!"
Maybe the writers did it like that just to make it a spur of the moment decision, but I see it as a quick realization that the only way to protect Lana (most in danger) was to get Sarah to run so Lana would run too and his only option was to reveal himself to make it happen. Then when they both were running, the battle begins. Jordan showed determination in protection others from harm, and willing to take the abuse in order to accomplish that goal. When the fight finally moved into the school's auditorium where the rest of the family was at, he also showed some quick thinking when B-Lana tried to use her freeze vision on him, pushing her head to aim her attack at B-Jonathan. For a brief moment, he was taking on the both of them and actually holding his own against them. Truly a sight to behold. Of course, it'd be too unrealistic for him to win as simple as that, so he started losing and that's when Natalie showed up and helped to neutralize both of them. While it would have been nice for Jordan to have done it on his own, I'm glad they did it this way, as it shows that he's still growing, developing, learning, and not above needing and accepting help.
Truly a wonderful episode with an epic moment that is well worth seeing and admiring. It's not that he revealed himself or that he fought, it's the reason for the reveal and how he handled himself in the fight. Determination to protect others and not letting the pain from the battle deter him from that goal.
