Adele: One Night Only featured the British songstress singing songs from her new album at Griffith Observatory in LA. Presented by Oprah Winfrey, it aired in November.
Collecting the award was exec producer Ben Winston, who dedicated it to his mother Lira Helen Feigenbaum, who passed away this summer.
“I think you can tell by our faces we truly are surprised. But let’s be honest, you could film [Adele] in a cardboard box with an iPhone and win an Emmy,” he said.

John Irwin has produced dozens of stand-up comedy specials for stars including Norm Macdonald, John Mulaney, Hannah Gadsby and Adam Sandler.
Irwin Entertainment, which he founded in 2004, is currently up for an Emmy for Netflix’s “Norm Macdonald: Nothing Special” and was previously nominated for Netflix’s “Hannah Gadsby: Douglas.”
Irwin got his start popping popcorn for “Saturday Night Live” honcho Lorne Michaels in 1990, the year that Adam Sandler, Chris Farley, David Spade and Chris Rock joined the show. Those connections helped form the foundation of his own comedy career as an in-demand producer. So, he has a lot of experience getting the best out of talent in live productions.
“I’ve really learned over the years, there is an art to it,” Irwin told TheWrap for this week’s Office With a View. “You’re creating a real environment. You want that perfect vibe for both the audience and the comic,...

Night 1 of the Creative Arts Emmys will take place Saturday, September 3 at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles and will focus primarily on animation and unscripted fare. Gold Derby editors Denton Davidson, Daniel Montgomery and Marcus James Dixon recently got together to wage a war of words over their predictions for many of these races. Watch the editors’ Emmy predictions video slugfest above.
For Best Animated Program our staffers reach a consensus that Netflix newbie “Arcane” will pull off a win over more established favorites like “Rick and Morty,” “The Simpsons” and “Bob’s Burgers” as well as MCU’s “What If?” Daniel notes, “I think after ‘Primal’ won, that told me that the show that stands out here will likely win.” Denton agrees adding, “It also just won three juried awards. It cleaned house there and it’s the only one among the nominees that just took home three juried awards.

Severance was named best streaming drama series and Ted Lasso was named best streaming comedy series at the Hollywood Critics Association’s Hca TV Awards on Sunday. Dopesick was named best streaming limited or anthology series.
Tig Notaro was supposed to host the ceremony, but Cameron Esposito stepped in after Notaro tested positive for Covid-19, Esposito told the audience. Esposito noted that she got the last-minute call over the weekend and flew to Los Angeles earlier Sunday to host the show, where awards were handed out in the streaming categories.
“I can’t believe you were able to squeeze these awards into two days,” Esposito joked, noting that the streaming shows are the only TV programs she actually watches, before noting she had written her monologue in one hour. (Esposito goes by both she/her and they/them pronouns.)

“We didn’t expect it to be seen,” reveals Lori Jo Hoekstra about Emmy nominee “Norm Macdonald: Nothing Special” for Netflix. For our recent webchat she continues, “But I’m so grateful that Norm shot it so we could share it.” Watch the exclusive video interview above.
“Nothing Special” is the final comedy special from former “Saturday Night Live” star Norm Macdonald, who passed away from illness last September. Netflix was scheduled to record it this year in front of a live audience. Fortunately, the comedian recorded the set at home last year. Resulting is a raw and distinctive comedy performance giving new insights into the process of a comedy icon. Hoekstra produced the special and explains, “That was completely his idea to do it. It was a safety net to have it recorded, since we all know what he was going through at the time. I never would have...

Outstanding Variety Special (Live)
The 64th Annual Grammy Awards (CBS)
The Trevor Noah-hosted celebration of music aired April 3 (more recently than any rival), featured performances from winners Silk Sonic and Olivia Rodrigo, and landed five Emmy nominations (tied for category best). But only the 2021 Grammys telecast attracted fewer viewers, and no Grammys telecast has ever won this award.
The Tony Awards Present: Broadway’s Back! (CBS)
This commemoration of Broadway’s rebound from Covid aired in September (another Tonys has aired since), was hosted by Tony winners Audra McDonald and Leslie Odom Jr. and featured musical performances and award presentations. But with just two noms, it’s tied for a category low, and a Tonys telecast hasn’t won this prize since 2017.
The Tony Awards Present: Broadway’s Back!
The Oscars (ABC)
March’s telecast will forever be remembered for the moment Will Smith slapped Chris Rock.
