Disney’s Korean fantasy drama Moving was the big winner Sunday at the Busan International Film Festival’s Asia Contents Awards, which honors excellence in content creation for TV and streaming services across the region.
Moving, which has become Disney+ and Hulu’s most-watched Korean series both in Asia and globally, took home the first-place best creative award, best writer (for webtoon artist turned screenwriter Kang Full), best lead actor (series star Ryu Seung-ryong), best newcomer actor (co-star Lee Jung-ha), best newcomer actress (Go Yoon Jung) and best visual effects. Big-budget, Korean-language fantasy-crime-action series “Moving” emerged as the big winner on Sunday at the Asia Contents Awards & Global Ott Awards, claiming six prizes, including the ‘best creative’ prize.

Disney’s Korean superhero thriller Moving heads the nominations for this year’s Asia Content Awards at Busan International Film Festival with nods in six categories, followed by Tencent Video’s The Long Season with five nods.
Moving picked up nominations for best creative, best writer (Kang Full), three acting categories and best visual effects. Crime thriller The Long Season was also nominated for best creative, along with best director (Xin Shuang), two acting categories and best visual effects.

The Netflix original D.P. was a super hit back in 2021, and the way it ended had everyone expecting a second season soon enough. Our wait is finally over, and the next season is just around the corner, sporting more emotional damage while still being fun for viewers. The series focuses on the mandatory military service of South Korean men for about two years before they turn 30. Particularly the hardship that the boys and men go through, the hierarchy system, and the bullying that happens within the military that reaches atrocious levels. Our main characters are a part of the D.P. (Deserter pursuit) department of the military, which happens to be the unit that apprehends deserters and brings them back. Season 1 explores the reasons the men choose to desert. The show is based on the webtoon D.P. Gaeui Nal, which translates to D.P. Dog Days, written by Kim Bo-Tong.

As the hunt for the another Squid Game continues, we’re seeing new consolidation in the South Korean content sphere.
Korean streaming platform Wavve has bought Kocowa (Korean Content Waave), the K-content streamer that operates in the Americas.
The companies already have similar ownership structures, with Wavve (aka Content Wavve) owned by Korean networks Kbs, Mbc and Sbs and Sk Telecom, and Kocowa jointly owned by the three broadcasters.
Wavve says the deal, which was confirmed today, “launches its global business,” with Kocowa operating in 30 territories, including the U.S., Canada, Mexico and Brazil. Kocowa offers Korean shows in the Americas through streaming service Kocowa+ and local Ott and cable services.
Wavve bills itself as Korea’s largest Ott service. It has been planning international expansion since last year, as CEO Lee Tae-hyun told Deadline in 2021.
