Probably the best episode yet

Warning: Spoilers
Every show can always have that one good episode per season and this is the one.

They lead you in real good by making think it's just a regular superhero alien invasion thing. But as it continues you know something is up. They try to say that the superheroes are just being held prison until Artemis gets zapped and wally starts to lose it. Then a another one, and another and you see the team you've spent watching either away. You know they're alive, cause, well there's another 2 seasons of the show but it still hooks me

I won't spoil the ending but the truth was something I didn't see coming. With what they just experience the team, especially Megan, are faced with a new trauma that continues with them. (Side note, I just want to say I just love when tv shows have continuity of recent events that effect the character that isn't instantly dropped)

Tldr: awesome story that just captivates that brings a new personal fight for our characters.

Fine. Overrated. Tells and doesn't show.

Warning: Spoilers
Firstly I set 5 to be a middle score and totally average. I don't think this is a bad episode. Great concept but there's no good way to execute it.

*spoilers below*

The stakes get high. The real Justice League gets obliterated and we see everyone step up to ascend the role. But obviously we weren't really going to kill everyone. So what's going on? An inquisitor audience would know something was up. But for dramatic effect they don't want to tell the audience what's going on. Fair enough.

But the problem is that our gang is supposedly acting out of character because they do know it's a simulation and therefore weren't responding appropriately. So now we have this dichotomy where in world everyone knew it was fake but we the audience didn't. But then for mystery reasons our crew falls into the audience perspective. And this is supposed to be a massive shift that is central to the plot, but because of the forced perspective of the audience, we can only appreciate this afterwards through exposition. There is no way to show and not tell the audience what's happening. The ending just feels like a retcon from Martian Manhunter because to make it fun we could not have been given the right insights. So in the end it just feels disorienting and poorly executed.

I did love the forced upon responsibility and heightened stakes, but I think the real power of this episode comes in later as to how it affects each of the characters and shakes up their concepts of themselves and what they're doing.

Everyone gave this episode glowing reviews so I felt compelled to share my feelings on it.
