pretty mid, but funny
garryyesbimmues27 April 2023
So the dialogues could have been much better. The acting is also pretty mediocre. The story is pretty lame and uninterestingly told, but I got some good laughs in. It's supposed to be a comedy and in that regard it certainly works.

The camerawork is fantastic. The sound design is great. The music sucks in my opinion for the most part, but other than that well I had fun in the cinema. It's an enjoyable movie for a broad audience.

I appreciate Til Schweiger way more in these kind of movies than him playing the depressed old guy. The movie had no depth, which always works in Germany for bigger audiences.

Just my personal opinion. Looking forward to the 3rd installment.

Not great but not horrible
larreseakkies28 April 2023
Did this movie get posted on a "we hate til schweiger" message board? I mean how did this get a 2.9?

It's far from great. The story is yuk, the cast is one big white wash, the jokes are very on the nose for the most part, but come on!

Technically it is very well above German standards. The actors aren't bad at all the script just doesn't allow for anything great.

I'm sure everybody who watches the movie openly will get some laughs off it.

But the movie got so many 1 and 2 ratings, people are acting like it is krass Klassenfahrt, but it is not nearly as bad.

I was pretty torn between giving it a 4 and a 5, but I went with the 4 because it could have easily been much better.

Some will appreciate it, most wont

I don't believe the film would have done worse at the box office without the offensive and sexist jokes, since those were actually not the parts that most people laughed in anyways.

But the production quality is great. The sound design is great. The final race is very well done, nothing near fast and furious, but it still works nicely. Even though some people left in the middle of the movie, most people there had fun, but story wise, a lot just didn't make any sense.

The creators must be very glad about the fact that there is no cancel culture in Germany, because if there was, this movie would have had some serious troubles to face.

What a mess
maxderler28 April 2023
This is the first movie i couldn't finish and had to went out of the teather. While the first part had it's charme and the handwriting of a solid director in bernd eichinger, this is a total mess. I don't even know where to beginn with, it is just pure shame. It bugs me that i have to give at least 1 star for this pile of trash it isn't even worth a quater of a star.

Today news broke out that til schweiger the director and main actor was mainly drunk while filming and treathened the staff and even became violent. This just fits the whole picture. What a mess. The worst movie i ever say in my life by far.

This movie is a total mess
jkdummy21 April 2023
There has been a kult in the early 90s about the german car brand Opel and its Manta model, which led to the production of two seperate comedy Manta Films: "Manta, Manta" and "Manta - der Film". Today Manta, Manta is more know to the people, because Til Schweiger had his breakthrough with this film and has become famous since then. The first Manta, Manta was okay.

The "zwoter Teil" (second Part) is a pure mess and watching it is a litlle bit like watching a car accident. Everything in this movie is cheesy. The story, the actors, the music, the jolkes, out of sync lip sync, the cuts, strange sound effects (which are meant to be funny but are just ridiculous).

If you like to watch awful trash movies for having an have a good laugh, then this movie is a must watch for you.

Worst German film ever
fabianmarcus25 February 2024
As a 13-year-old in the middle of the 90s, I loved Manta Manta. Therefore, I would have been very happy about an unexpected sequel. In the cinema I was first full of anticipation, then horrified and shortly afterwards extremely angry about the almost two hours of crap.

Now I watched the movie Manta, Manta - Zwoter Teil again and stopped it after 40 minutes. The movie is so bad and not worth another second of lifetime.

I don't know what I find worse. The plot, the dialogues, the editing or the performance of Till Schweiger. All unbelievably bad and unworthy to be seen.

One star is three stars to much.

Bad, unfunny, predictable.
kontakt-383424 October 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Schweiger disqualifies himself as a director, scriptwriter, and actor in just one film, which sadly, stands as the sole achievement here. Most of the dialogues, presumably penned by him, fall flat and lack the spark to engage the audience.

I initially turned it off after 20 minutes, giving it a second chance a day later only to find that it didn't get any better. The lack of effort is apparent, especially when it comes to continuity errors and poor stunt effects, which come off as blatantly unrealistic.

The subplot, which seems to veer off into a reflection of what might be Schweiger's personal life crisis, adds no value to the overall narrative. Instead, it detracts from the already thin plot, making the viewing experience even more tedious.

Moreover, what really irks me is the blatant disregard for automobile appreciation, a theme that the original films portrayed with a certain reverence.

(spoiler) It's absurd to see a character in the film recklessly repainting a well-preserved 30+-year-old Manta with a spray can (twice), or driving it through saltwater on the beach. These actions reflect not just a lack of understanding and respect for automotive culture but also showcase how out-of-touch the film is with reality.

(/spoiler)

An extensive run time of 120 minutes feels like a stretch, with filler scenes adding to the ordeal. A tighter edit, cutting it down to a crisp 30 minutes could have potentially salvaged the narrative, maintaining the audience's interest.

In conclusion, this film is a hard pass. Despite giving it a fair shot, it disappointingly remains bad, unfunny, and predictable throughout. It's a misfire on many levels - a wasted opportunity that could have been something substantial with a more thought-out script and better execution.

Bad Dialogs, bad acting, bad movie
timkochanski-6752916 January 2024
Was a big fan of the first movie back in the days. But this movie destroys the whole charm of the first one. Really: every actor play like it was their first movie without acting classes, casted directly from street. Dialogs are very bad and sound very memorized without emotions. Sorry about that, could have been more.

Plot is dumb and very constructed. They should have left out the dialogs between Till and his daughter, because they are full of cliche and come over very unnatural.

Would have given 1 point, but soundtrack fixes a lot for me. The only point that gets the vibe from the first movie.

Serves its purpose!
Maxpresley19 August 2023
Even before I watched the film I was hearing from all sides how bad the film was and now that I've seen it I have to admit that I only partially agree with these statements.

Till Schweiger is an actor and director who is despised by the masses and in this film, as in other films, he has both roles at the same time. Personally, I find many of his films entertaining and that's the main thing you watch a film for. Now, however, hatred of his films has long been mainstream and it surprised people Not me that there are so many bad reviews. I'm not a big Till Schweiger fan, but I don't think it's fair that the majority always pick at him like that. The film is on the level of an average German film, this is not particularly high, but it is entertaining and that is the decisive factor. The film has many guest appearances, German "celebrities". Humor is a matter of taste, it often amuses me. The first part is cult and this sequel was accordingly an interesting idea. The film advertises that the nation has been waiting all these years for the second part, but I doubt that. Current topics are taken up in the story and a lot is played with the cult factor, which I often find to be unimaginative, even apart from this film. The film is updated a bit trying to bring in "the youth" which is solid. The acting performance is standard and nothing special, which I didn't expect differently here. Funny movie, acting is pretty standard to mediocre, solid story. Overall it is better than many have described. If you know what you're getting into, which is an entertaining sequel, then this is an excellent film purely for entertainment. Of course, there is still room for improvement in terms of implementation, but I am very satisfied with the result and suggest that you get your own picture of it and assess afterwards whether it was worth taking this product from Till Schweiger. I enjoyed it and the film gets a possible 6/10 from me for doing what it needs to do...entertaining!

Offensive Comedy for Old People
ashagretschuqn15 April 2023
Of course this is a box office hit in Germany. Til Schweiger delivers what his fans want to see from him. A fart joke comedy with little to no story, no buildup, no grown, underdeveloped character strings and basically what German movie fans love to see. Great actors in underwhelming roles who don't get a chance to deliver any depth at all.

It's a cute story, some wise words get dropped occasionally, and I'm sure everyone will get at least 2 good laughs in, even women, considering how overly sexist and offensive some of the jokes are. I truly wish they'd have had at least one "aware", "cultural" or just "not ancient" person in this 7 men team of writers.

Surprisingly great in most areas
leonzillaleon7 October 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This movie actually blew me away. As a massive fan of the original, I was skeptical towards a sequel at first, considering the original "Manta, Manta" came out over 30 years ago.

I went into the movie worried that it might be "too modern", due to modern audiences having different tastes and expectations towards media than audiences 30 years ago, which is a problem since your main target audience should be fans of the original. I was pleasently surprised that the movie stayed true to its original positive vibe in portraying car culture.

Til Schweiger absolutely does not deserve his bad reputation in terms of acting and writing, in my opinion he did a great job in both areas here. Bertie has naturally aged and has clearly gone through a lot in his life that shaped him, but the old Bertie we all know and love constantly shines through. You could not have improved on Bertie in this movie.

Opening the movie with the same song that played in the final scene of the original was the perfect introduction to this film.

Now, lets talk about cars. The setting of a karting track and car repair garage in one was genius, as it combined the mechanics and the racing side of car culture in one. The movie is called Manta Manta 2, and I have heard the complaint, that theres not enough Manta in it. Compared to the original it's true, but there's still a fair amount. Berties car throughout the majority of the movie is an Opel Manta A, the first generation Manta. Perhaps not everyone knew that.

The original widebody Benetton style Opel Manta B from the 1991 Manta, Manta makes an appearance in the final act aswell and we even engine swap it again!

"Manta Manta zwoter Teil" has a fair amount of references to the original movie that I adore, such as Manta jokes, an engine stealing and swapping scene etc. The movie works really well in tying itself to the original, not too much, maybe too little even.

Klausi is back aswell, the classic comic relief of the original and the fan favorite that wins the final race in the OG. In the second part he has a smaller role, he isn't the main character this time, but he is responsible for most funny scenes, although I would have appreciated, if the character was more respected by other characters in a way.

I do have criticism aswell though: There are a bunch of characters from the first movie that are straight up missing without explanation, including my favorite, Gerd (who also had the coolest car in the OG), but the new characters fill their shoes quite well, but they're still inferior.

All in all one could describe this movie best in numbers: 8/10. Amazing cinematogrophy, good nostalgia moments, great cars, amazingly fitting 90s disco soundtrack, great humor, likable characters, genuine goosebumps moments, but lacking the final touch and spark the original had. No one expected it to measure up to the original masterpiece anyway so that's okay. Missing two stars simply for missing Hakan, Gerd, Sabine and Florentine.

Simply pleasant...
meinredmi29 April 2023
Manta Manta second part doesn't deserve the many bad Reviews! Had a good time at the cinema and had to laugh very offen. The nostalgia was right and there was also some feeling. The soundtrack was cool too. Retro in other words. There were also some guest appearances... It doesn't always have to be sophisticated cinema. Just something relaxed.

But of course, not every joke ignites and there are also some cheesy things. It's also a pity that some characters from the first part are unfortunately no longer there. The final car race could have been better. Made a bit old-fashioned. Something was missing from roughness of the passt.

good entertainment
kornelminyes1 May 2023
It's so funny how people online hate Til Schweiger, but the masses still get moved by him. His fanbase of old Germanys got the movie they needed with this.

I actually think Til did a great job here. Yes it is a completely white, blonde cast, looking like they got fresh out of a hitler wet dream, which is probably why old Germans love the poster enough to go in and watch the movie and yes some of the jokes are offensive, but it's just a movie, people.

The acting is above average for the most part, the sound design is excellent, the cinematography is gorgeous, the story, well- it works. Lets see what they do with 3.

not as bad as they say
Mynameisroman17 April 2024
Based on the bad reviews i expected the worst movie. Well, its certaintly not a good movie, but not as bad as they all say. It got some heart for sure. The actors seemed to have a lot of fun doing the movie. The story itself is pretty thin. They repeat some stuff from the first movie but that also nothing unusual. I would say you get your typical Till Schweiger movie. So if you are a fan of him or a fan of the first movie, go and check this out! Everyone else... just don't expect anything great... just a simple mediocre comedy and enjoy the silly ride. I would rate the movie a 5.5. Thats a fair rating it you are a german. Outside germany this movie might be more like a 4.5.
