Inspector Borowski – Borowski and the Woman in the Window
Tweekums16 October 2016
Warning: Spoilers
As this episode opens we see a woman sitting in a car on the side of the road, a motorbike speeds past and she gives chase and overtakes… and it promptly pulled over by the motorbike-cop. It isn't the first time; clearly she is doing it deliberately so she can see him. It turns out that she is a vet and he is her neighbour who lives opposite. She spends much of her time watching him from her window then when she sees him with another woman she poisons his dog to force him to visit. As she treats the dog she learns that the other woman is his new girlfriend and they are already talking about making a life together. The next day she lets herself into the neighbour's house and murders his girlfriend and cleans up with forensic efficiency. When the man gets home he assumes the worse and calls homicide; Borowski goes to the scene and finds only one clue; a dental brace that was discovered under the television. It is enough to convince him that something bad may have happened although early suspicion falls on the policeman.

Borowski also has a problem at home; his colleague, Hans Nielsson, is staying there after his wife left him; he has told people he is on holiday so spends his days repairing Borowski's house… whether he wants it or not. Borowski is also interviewing for a new member of the team and after an awkward start begins working with new colleague Sarah Brandt.

People wanting a whodunit may be a bit disappointed as the killer's identity is known from the start; there isn't even much doubt about her motive. That said I still found this to be a really enjoyable episode; it isn't as if there is no mystery… we still have to discover how the police will connect her to the murder. The story was a fine mix of drama and unforced comedy; the funny moments provided more laughs than some so-called comedies I've seen. Axel Milberg continues to impress as Boeowski and is ably supported by Sibel Kekilli, who viewers may recognise from her role in 'Game of Thrones', as his new partner Sarah Brandt… I hope her character hangs around and becomes a regular. Sibylle Canonica was impressive as killer-vet Charlotte Delius; an intelligent but clearly dangerous woman. There are some exciting moments during the episode; most notably a realistic motorcycle crash and a final confrontation between Borowski and the killer. Overall another really solid episode that skilfully blends drama with just enough humour.
