This is the dock where I left my ship
alexandroslo12 January 2015
This is the story between two lovers; a sailor, Simon, and a student, François. It unfolds with suspicion of something being wrong from the beginning. Both male actors extend their skills and good looks to keep you nailed on your seat, while the complementing part of François' mother adds to the suspense of the plot. What remains to be revealed towards the end of this short film is the dock where Simon has left his ship. According to what he tells François, he's been given the best gift ever. Beautiful camera angles, memorable acting by all involved, incredible photography at the beach. Thumbs up for director Pascal Latil! 9/10

touching

all seems be perfect in this film. the cinematography, the story, the dialog, the pledge. and the manner to present a love story in touching way. because it is only a simple love story. with great details and the right director. with the flavor of lost and the force of an unique gift. with so beautiful characters than all seems a poem. the sea, the beach, the choice of Simon. and the mother. the dialogue out of ordinary rules. and the revelation. the grace is the basic virtue of this gem. because it is the only realistic definition. as a new way to discover the reality. to redefine the life. and to see the sacrifice. from a different angle. that is all.

My partner was a French mariner, too

I took to this lovely story and have watched this film a number of times because Pascal Latil's work is excellent. The actors portray their characters very well, sensitively, given the storyline with Francois' condition. I come back to it for that story, even though I know the whole story already, because it has a basic human appeal. You can almost feel the heat of one leaning back against the other. They actually seem like a good partnership, close and loving. My partner was from France, and we met on ships at sea, so I could really relate to this. I love hearing French from these guys. Great memories.

Sob story, overall not convincing

Warning: Spoilers
"La dérade" or "The Gilthead" is a French(language" short film from 2011, so it has its 5th anniversary this year. The writer and director is Pascal Latil and I cannot say I am aware of his work or name or any of the actors in here. The story is about a gay couple and the sickness by one of them. It's a bit tear-jerk material and certainly not a great film, but I must also say that I have seen way worse gay-themed short films, a very frequent genre for these. There are okay moments in terms of story and of acting that make this film at least slightly watchable. I still believe it was not a good movie at all and I would not recommend the 12 minutes to anybody other than relatives of the people who made it or acted in it. Thumbs down from me.
