As expected, Luca Guadagnino’s Challengers scored an easy win this weekend, with a $15 million weekend, just a touch softer than we predicted earlier this week. The tennis-cantered love triangle was no doubt boosted by Zendaya’s star power, with her hotter than ever in the wake of Dune: Part Two’s blockbuster showing this winter. IMAX screens were dominated by Zendaya in one form or another, with both Challengers and Dune 2 playing in the format this weekend thanks to the latter’s re-release.
Notably, the film posted Guadagnino’s best box office opening to date, with the weekend total more than doubling the total take of his previous biggest opener, Bones and All. It’ll be interesting to see if Challengers can hold up in the coming weeks, with The Fall Guy opening next weekend and Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes opening the weekend after. With...

The adventure of Guts in the Berserk manga began once again, one year after the death of its creator, Kentaro Miura. His best friend, Kouji Mori, who is also a manga creator known for works like Holyland, Jisatsutou, and Destroy and Revolution, collaborated with the artists at Studio Gaga to continue the legacy of Miura.
Guts in Berserk
Miura and Mori have been together since high school, and they have known each other for over 40 years. They both dreamed of becoming manga creators together, and Mori was the only one who knew the ending of Berserk. He is the perfect individual to complete Miura’s masterpiece, and the recent chapters that have been released by Studio Gaga prove it.
Miura’s genius is widely reflected in Berserk. The series is considered one of the best mangas of all time by many. Even Mori believed that Miura was a gifted artist,...

Donovan was there during The Beatles‘ trip to India. He and the Fab Four were having the sort of heady conversation people should have at a spiritual retreat. Donovan and the Fab Four had some very similar opinions.
Donovan and The Beatles discussed ‘the inner world’ in India
During a 2013 interview with Performing Songwriter, the “Sunshine Superman” singer explained how he became interested in meditation. “Reading Jack Kerouac and hearing the word ‘Zen’ and going on to Buddhism, then rediscovering the Eastern philosophies and the word’ meditation,’ I realized that there was an actual technique for finding the inner world that we’d lost in the West.”
The “Hurdy Gurdy Man” star felt that the world needed more spirituality. “The great teachers — Carl Jung, Sigmund Freud, Joseph Campbell — spoke of being able to enter the inner world, where all things come from and all things return,” he said. “Not a religion.

Elvis Presley‘s “Don’t Cry Daddy” doesn’t sound like a political song. However, it was inspired by a dark day in American history, specifically an event from the Vietnam War. The writer of the song said the tune was inspired by some disturbing footage he saw on television.
A Vietnam War massacre inspired Elvis Presley’s ‘Don’t Cry Daddy’
Mac Davis is a songwriter who gave us Elvis tunes such as “In the Ghetto,” “A Little Less Conversation, “Memories,” and “Don’t Cry Daddy.” On the surface, the latter song is a ballad about a child who is comforting his father because his mother is gone. It’s not clear is she is absent or deceased. During an interview with Elvis Information Network, Davis recalled the origin of “Don’t Cry Daddy.”

Aew Revolution 2024 was a hell of a show and it ended with the satisfying finale of Sting’s time in the ring. The final stretch of Sting’s career was a wonderful chance to set things right for the legendary wrestler, after the wrestling business had constantly let him down over the years. He was once the ace of WCW, but the incompetence and selfishness of others hurt his legacy in different ways at different promotions. But despite being in his 60s, his three years at Aew allowed him to go out on his own terms.
The Stinger is a beloved icon for a reason. While he did get wrapped up in such unfortunate things as the WCW mini-movies, the Shockmaster, the ill-fated Hulk Hogan match at Starrcade, and a really unfortunate PPV main event involving Jeff Hardy, Sting was still one of WCW’s great highlights and kicked a...

The cover of John Lennon‘s Double Fantasy depicts him kissing Yoko Ono. The record’s title is not simply a reference to the two of them working together. John revealed the name has a spiritual meaning.
John Lennon’s ‘Double Fantasy’ was inspired by John’s view of prayer
The book All We Are Saying: The Last Major Interview with John Lennon and Yoko Ono features an interview from 1980. In it, John revealed his opinions about prayer. “The consciousness is, ‘Let’s see what we shall pray for together. Let’s make it stronger by picturing the same image, projecting the same image,'” he said. “And that is the secret. That is the secret. Because you can be together but projecting different things.”
Yoko said these dual projections were “double fantasies,” alluding to the title of their newest record. “Double fantasies at the same time,” John replied. “And...

Al Pacino starred in Sea of Love in 1989 after a four-year hiatus and gave a box office hit with his neo-noir crime thriller. Pacino’s last film before Sea of Love, Revolution, was a critical and commercial disaster. But it was Diane Keaton who put him back on the top of Hollywood by offering him Harold Becker’s movie. Before barging into his lawyer’s office and saving his career, she called him an idiot to his face in front of his lawyer.
Diane Keaton and Al Pacino shared a great friendship from working together in The Godfather films
Al Pacino played an NYPD detective in the film trying to catch a serial killer who targets and kills their victims through the singles column in a newspaper. The film, made on a budget of $19 million, grossed over $110 million at the box office.

Forget your traditional game controller or mouse and keyboard to enjoy Helldivers 2. If you’re up for the challenge, try having the Dance Dance Revolution input for the game, like one determined player has managed to show off their skills. Not only do they ace these moves (literally), but they also manage to strategize mid-game as if nothing is different.
This isn’t the first time the community has seen someone use a unique input for a game. In fact, people have used musical instruments and all kinds of machinery in place of traditional controllers to play a game usually not meant for that kind of input. And this time, it’s Helldivers 2’s turn.
Got moves? Show them off… on a mat There are many ways to play the game, including dancing in real life.

Despite everything John Lennon said in his music, he didn’t vote. During an interview he gave near the end of his life, the “Imagine” singer explained his rationale for refusing to vote. John also explained why he felt the need to dabble in politics in his music. Even hardcore fans might be surprised by what he had to say.
John Lennon used a quote to justify his refusal to vote
John discussed politics a bit in The Beatles’ music, most famously through the song “Revolution.” Social issues became a much bigger theme in his solo music. Many of his most famous solo songs are about the subject, including “Give Peace a Chance,” “Imagine,” “Power to the People,” “God,” “Working Class Hero,” and “Happy Xmas (War Is Over).”

John Lennon, Paul McCartney, and George Harrison wrote the majority of The Beatles’ songs. While Lennon and McCartney were the primary writers in The Beatles’ early years, Harrison made more contributions later on. They were all competitive with one another, which typically pushed their creative output. Still, Lennon claimed the competition between them led McCartney and Lennon to resent him.
John Lennon said Paul McCartney and George Harrison resented his creativity
In the mid-1960s, Lennon said he dealt with a creative slump. He pulled back his songwriting contributions, but he continued writing more in the later years of the decade. One of the songs he was excited about in 1968 was “Revolution.” Harrison and McCartney didn’t seem to share the sentiment.

When a director circles a project, it can be a tentative proposition – as we all discovered last week when word began to spread that David Leitch was likely to make the next Jurassic World entry, before he swiftly dropped out. But things are apparently much more promising for Bumblebee director (and Laika studio boss) Travis Knight, who is closing in on a deal to handle the new live-action Masters Of The Universe film.
According to Deadline's sources, Knight has yet to sign, but it's looking good for him — especially since Chris Butler, a veteran Laika writer and director – is polishing the script. But they'll need all the help they can get, as this is one that has eluded more than one studio and a host of filmmakers.

Carrie Fisher took the virginity of Indiana Jones. At least, that's how she told it while she was alive. Specifically, that's what she told me. In her own words: "I wrote it with George [Lucas.] We wrote Indiana Jones losing his virginity to Mata Hari. It went very well."
I had been asking about her work on the "Star Wars" prequel trilogy, so this answer came a bit out of left field. However, it's a little-known fact that Fisher worked as a writer on many George Lucas projects, doing an uncredited polish on the scripts for the prequels and even coming up with adventures for Indiana Jones to go on in his TV series, "The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles."
So, how did Indiana Jones actually lose his virginity, and what part did Fisher play?

One could argue John Lennon‘s “Power to the People” hasn’t aged a day, especially compared to other political songs. Despite the song’s greatness, John had a significant issue with its lyrics in retrospect. He named the political figure who inspired him to write the tune. In addition, John explained why he felt the politics of the 1960s hadn’t made the world more utopian.
John Lennon felt ‘Power to the People’ didn’t portray power correctly
John’s solo oeuvre was a lot more political than The Beatles’. Sure, the Fab Four dabbled in cultural commentary with songs like “Piggies” and “Revolution,” but social issues were a much more prominent theme in John’s work. To this day, “Give Peace a Chance,” “Imagine,” “God,” and “Working Class Hero” are all stirring statements about a world that has changed far too little.

This article contains spoilers for Masters of the Universe: Revolution.
The big twist at the end of Masters of the Universe: Revelation Part 2 was the reveal of Hordak (Keith David), the main villain of the original 1985 She-Ra series. Masters of the Universe: Revolution directly follows on from that, with Skeletor (Mark Hamill) working for and eventually betraying Hordak.
Episode 4 has the two duke it out in a battle right out of kids playtime, with Hordak’s legs even shapeshifting into a rocket. Skeletor manages to gain the upper-hand and seemingly kills Hordak, stabbing him through the heart. That isn’t the end of him, though.
The fifth and final episode of Revolution has Skeletor defeated and Eternia saved. It feels like the show is wrapping itself up, ready to close out this chapter in the Motu franchise. Then, nope, we get a final scene that sends the show hurtling in an incredible new direction.

Titled Masters of the Universe: Revelation, the Netflix original was released in two five-episode drops, both of which I loved. A blend of modern animation techniques coupled with a throwback to the Filmation style of the 1980s cartoon, Revelation was blasted online by a vocal minority who disliked Smith’s decision to “kill off” Prince Adam in the first episode and make the series centered on Teela and many of the female characters. By the end of the full series, Smith’s vision came to fruition, even though many fans were not swayed. The second...

This article contains spoilers for Masters of the Universe: Revolution.
Episode 3 of Masters of the Universe: Revolution features former Man-At-Arms Duncan (Liam Cunningham) and wizard Orko (Griffin Newman) achieving an important goal, enhancing He-Man’s Sword of Power. To do this, Duncan goes to the one person he believes can do it, a locksmith who is, “small in stature and tall on talent.”
That locksmith is a short creature named Gwildor (Ted Biaselli.)
For those not well-versed in their Masters of the Universe franchise lore, Gwildor doesn’t come from the original He-Man and the Masters of the Universe Filmation cartoon. He actually debuted in the 1987 live-action movie, Masters of the Universe, played by Billy Barty. In that film he was also a locksmith whose main purpose in the plot was as the creator of the Cosmic Key, the object used to transport He-Man and company to Earth in that film.

Slayer’s Tom Araya said one of The Beatles’ songs is “so Slayer” — and the crazy thing is he’s right! Araya noted The Beatles released a version of the same song on The White Album that sounds very different. He also revealed how The Beatles and another British Invasion impacted him.
Slayer’s Tom Araya said ‘Revolution’ is his favorite Beatles song
During a 2009 interview with Cleveland.com, Araya was asked to name his favorite Beatles song and he picked “Revolution.” “The slower [album] version is good, too, but I prefer the heavier version,” he said. “It’s so Slayer! I’m a big Beatles fan. Every song on their albums counted.”
Araya was contrasting the upbeat single version of “Revolution” with the slower recording of the song from The White Album. The latter is called “Revolution 1.” While “Revolution” is one of The Beatles’ only hard-rock singles, “Revolution 1” is more...

A nearly unrecognizable Sofia Vergara playing a cartel boss, a new retelling of the story of the Uruguayan rugby team that crash-landed in the Andes in 1972, Kevin Hart assembling a team for a daring heist and Dan Levy dealing with loss and grief are among the standout projects hitting Netflix this January.
Spanish director J.A. Bayona’s Society of the Snow lands on Netflix on Jan. 4. The film is the latest cinematic retelling of the miraculous story of the Uruguayan rugby team that crash-landed on a glacier in the heart of the Andes in 1972, with the survivors being forced to resort to extreme measures to stay alive. After debuting in Venice, Society of the Snow has picked up plenty of awards on the international film festival circuit, and it recently made the shortlists in four categories for the 2024 Academy Awards, including best international feature film.

It’s a quiet month on Netflix in January, but the streamer still has some good stuff lined up for the new year, including an interesting documentary about the Centra Tech cryptocurrency scam. Bitconned arrives on the first of the month alongside Netflix’s latest Harlan Coben adaptation, Fool Me Once, which sees an ex-soldier called Maya witness her husband’s murder on a nanny cam. The crime then leads her down a deadly path where she uncovers a deadly conspiracy.

Coldplay has some major similarities to The Beatles, such as the group’s refusal to be pinned down to one genre. Chris Martin said Coldplay’s Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends drew inspiration from the Fab Four. Also, Coldplay worked with a classic rock icon to create the album.
Coldplay’s ‘Viva la Vida’ includes a tip of the hat to The Beatles’ ‘Abbey Road’
During a 2008 interview with Entertainment Weekly, Coldplay’s Chris Martin said he didn’t want to refer to “Violet Hill,” a song from Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends, as a single. “We don’t really like that word,” says Martin. “This isn’t our ‘Umbrella’ … it’s [just] our first attempt at a protest song.” It’s interesting that Martin distanced the song from Rihanna’s “Umbrella,” as his band would later work with her on “Princess of China.

John Lennon‘s “Mind Games” might seem internally contradictory, but it’s beautifully cohesive. John’s son, Sean Ono Lennon, compared the song to a Möbius strip. He also revealed what he thought about it compared to his father’s other tunes.
John Lennon’s ‘Mind Games’ is more complex than The Beatles’ ‘All You Need Is Love’
During both his time with The Beatles and his solo career, John was known for his uplifting songs. Tunes like “All You Need Is Love,” “Imagine,” and “Power to the People” have given people hope and solace for decades. It’s remarkable he was able to inspire so many listeners, especially considering is music also had a dark side. “Don’t Let Me Down,” “Yer Blues,” and “How Do You Sleep?” are just some of the examples of John wallowing in anger or sadness.
“Mind Games” is the perfect marriage of John’s sensibilities.

The upcoming (abbreviated) eleventh season of NBC’s Chicago P.D. will be the last for Tracy Spiridakos, Deadline has confirmed. She will depart the Wolf Entertainment cop drama after eight seasons, seven of them as a series regular.
Spiridakos’ pending departure, which I hear was her decision, follows that of her on-screen husband, Jesse Lee Soffer, who left Chicago P.D. last season.
On the show, Spiridakos plays Detective Hailey Upton Halstead, a former robbery-homicide detective. Although Hailey and Jay Halstead (Soffer) had a rocky start when they were first partnered, their relationship gradually blossomed into a romance and marriage.
But then, early in Season 10, Jay returned to the Army in a new job hunting drug cartels in Bolivia soon after the couple’s wedding, leaving their future up in the air. It is unclear whether Soffer would return to give Spiridakos’ character a proper goodbye which is a tradition for popular on-screen couples.

Kevin Smith’s Netflix animated series Masters of the Universe: Revelation was envisioned as a follow-up to the 1980s show He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, and now Revelation is getting a follow-up of its own. Smith and Netflix are set to bring us the sequel series Masters of the Universe: Revolution sometime in 2024 – and while a specific release date hasn’t been revealed, promotion of the show has started with the unveiling of a clip that shows He-Man going to battle with the villainous Scare Glow! You can check it out at the bottom of this article.

Picking up where Revelation left off, Revolution is an all-new story that focuses on the classic He-Man vs.

Elvis Costello produced several songs for Paul McCartney, which isn’t surprising, as Paul worked with stars as eclectic as Michael Jackson, The Beach Boys, and the Everly Brothers. While discussing Paul’s musicianship, Costello opined The Beatles’ “Helter Skelter” challenged fans’ conceptions of Paul. He also said The Beatles’ “Julia” challenged fans’ conception of John Lennon.
Elvis Costello saw a throughline between The Beatles’ ‘Helter Skelter’ and ‘She’s a Woman’
Costello produced four songs from Paul’s 1989 album, Flowers in the Dirt. A 2017 article from The Washington Post says a narrative formed around the collaboration. Supposedly, Costello — a famous punk musician — would be like John Lennon and push Paul, the balladeer, into different territory. Costello contested this narrative.
“Oh, Paul’s the ballad guy, the same guy who sang ‘I’m Down,’ ‘She’s a Woman,’ and ‘Helter Skelter,'” he said. “You can find a contrary thing...

By the time The Beatles recorded The White Album, the band was already becoming quite fractured personally and professionally. It was 1968, and the band’s most ambitious effort was the project, almost ending their partnership. The White Album was The Beatles’ ninth studio album and the only double LP they would ever record. But one moment in the studio led John Lennon to go “ballistic” on Paul McCartney, leading to a moment that would forever change one of their most iconic songs.
John Lennon ‘went ballistic’ on Paul McCartney during this one pivotal moment while recording ‘The White Album’

Bob Dylan noted that John Lennon took much inspiration from his music. He also believed Lennon let another American artist inspire him. Dylan thought Lennon lifted the beginning guitar portion of The Beatles’ “Revolution” from a 1954 song from American guitarist Pee Wee Crayton. He didn’t think Lennon did it purposely, though.
Bob Dylan believed John Lennon borrowed from a 1954 song
In 2008, Dylan put together an album called The Music That Matters To Me. On it, he highlighted the 1954 song “Do Unto Others” by Pee Wee Crayton. Crayton was an American blues guitarist. Dylan noted on the album’s liner notes that Crayton, like the other artists on the compilation album, “somehow managed to turn lead into gold for a couple of minutes.”
Dylan believed the song was more influential than one might initially think. He thought it was likely that Lennon had lifted the song’s opening guitar riff and used it for “Revolution.

The Beatles’ “Revolution 9” was the song from The White Album that interested John Lennon the most. John discussed what he thought about George Harrison’s and Ringo Starr’s contributions to the song. “Revolution 9” was not a hit on the pop charts in the United States or the United Kingdom.
John Lennon wanted The Beatles’ “Revolution 9” to become a B-side. The other members of the Fab Four had a different view of the song. Subsequently, The Beatles’ next B-side wasn’t “Revolution 9,” but another track about the same subject.
Why The Beatles’ ‘Revolution’ became a B-side instead of ‘Revolution 9’
The book Lennon on Lennon: Conversations With John Lennon features an interview from 1969. During the interview, John discussed his intentions for “Revolution 9.” “See, while all The Beatles were on holiday, we’d started doing ‘Revolution [1]’ — the song’ Revolution [1]’ which is on the album, and I wanted to put that...

Get ready to delve into The Music of Heatmiser. The Portland band best known as Elliott Smith’s pre-solo career springboard has announced a new rarities compilation arriving October 6th via Third Man Records, and a demo version of the track “Lowlife” is out now.
Heatmiser initially distributed The Music of Heatmiser — then a 6-song cassette — at local record stores and shows to promote the band before they released their 1993 debut LP, Dead Air. According to co-founding singer-guitarist Neil Gust, this longer package — featuring 23 additional demos, live tracks, rare versions, and previously unreleased songs — came together thanks to drummer Tony Lash.
“Tony found a bunch of forgotten recordings and started mixing them and sending them to me,” Gust said in a statement. “We were struck by the freewheeling energy of the band; you could hear how much fun we were having. In 1992 we could barely afford the studio so it...

The mood in the studio sessions for The Beatles’ White Album was grim, with John Lennon and Paul McCartney constantly at each other’s throats. The two had once been close collaborators. Suddenly, they could hardly agree on anything. Lennon openly derided one of McCartney’s songs. After spending too much time on it, he left the studio in a rage.
John Lennon was not happy with Paul McCartney after hours of working on his song
One of Lennon’s least favorite songs on the White Album was “Ob-la-Di, Ob-la-Da,” McCartney’s bouncing, reggae-inspired tune. He rolled his eyes every time the band worked on it, which was often. McCartney worked endlessly to perfect it, much to the irritation of everyone else in the studio.
“The previous week’s work was a typical study in frustration,” audio engineer Geoff Emerick wrote in his book Here, There and Everywhere: My Life...

John Lennon’s “Give Peace a Chance” includes a lot of unusual, disjointed lyrics. John worried that a single word in the lyrics would cause controversy. The tune was a bigger hit in the United Kingdom than it was in the United States.
John Lennon‘s “Give Peace a Chance” would not inspire controversy today. Despite this, John censored the tune’s lyric sheet. In addition, he worried one of The Beatles’ songs from the same era would cause an uproar.
John Lennon’s ‘Give Peace a Chance’ had 1 risque word that he replaced on the lyric sheet
The chorus of “Give Peace a Chance” repeats the song’s title over and over. The rest of the song is mostly nonsense. The verses mention a bunch of random things, including rabbis, evolution, psychedelic guru Timothy Leary, and masturbation.
According to the 2019 book And in the End: The Last Days of The Beatles,...
