Mom's Here
Hitchcoc13 October 2021
When Mary Cooper comes to visit she comes expecting to make this a vacation, rather than a slave to Sheldon's whims. She launches every kind of racist, homophobic, religious, sexual diatribe possible. And yet she has some real kindness and charm. Leonard has become her soulmate. The conflict here is that she wants to go sightseeing and Sheldon is hurt. It's all very good fun.

Sheldon's mom comes to visit in "The Rhinitis Revelation" ep of "The Big Bang Theory"

Sheldon's mom Mary has come for a visit and her son is anxious for her to make some fried chicken but since she just arrived from a long flight, Leonard offers to take her to a sushi restaurant instead. This gets Sheldon a little disappointed since she's also not going to make her pecan pie later on. She also won't go to a lecture with him since she's been to enough of those when he was growing up as she wants to see the sights in L.A. Unfortunately for the rest of the gang, those sights are mostly to churches...Won't reveal more but will say Laurie Metcalf is once again quite funny in her politically incorrect way with her comments especially when finding out about Leonard's relationship with an Indian woman thousands of miles away. And Sheldon sure is insecure when it comes to having to share his mom socially with his friends. So on that note, "The Rhinitis Revelation" is another funny ep of "The Big Bang Theory".

Some of the best politically incorrect humor to date...

Warning: Spoilers
This episode marks the best Mary Cooper episode of TBBT to date with a fair share of racial and religious humor that doesn't get too offensive. I found Howard's remarks about getting only three wishes and about Jesus being the last Jew with muscular abs the most amusing. What was most pleasing was that it did not involve Leonard flying Mrs. Cooper into Los Angeles on implausibly short notice. And of course, as he very often does throughout this season, Sheldon realizes he more like other human beings than he is willing to admit and Amy is the one help him come to that realization. But in perfect Sheldon fashion, he gets the last laugh after feeling like the rest of the group is infringing on spending quality time with his mother.

The Rhinitis Revelation

Much like they do when Christine Baranski pops by as Leonard's mum, here they pretty much turn the show over to Laurie Metcalf, who guests here as Sheldon's.

You get the sense that Metcalf could do this sort of thing in her sleep, such is how good she is. She steals the episode from right underneath everybody's nose and does so seemingly with relish.

It's great now that we have 'Young Sheldon' too, because we can see just how the relationship between her and her son got to this point.

Unfortunately Sheldon is in bratty baby mode once again, and for me the fifth series hasn't as yet built on the promise of the fourth.
