- Irate that Osha arranged for Hodor to escape carrying Bran with kid brother Rickon, Theon gives chase, cruelly torturing every rustic on the way, fearing ridicule if this fails. Robb has noble prisoner Alton Lannister locked in with Jaime, for lack of cells, where he is strangled as a trick for the Kingslayer to escape at last, only to be caught again. Alone, Jon Snow patiently rebukes impertinent Wildling prisoner Ygrette's sneers about guardsmen not being free, virtually castrated by their oath, but he ends up lured into an ambush and taken prisoner himself. - Theon begins tracking Brandon and his younger brother Rickon, by sending his horses and hounds after them. Theon remembers that Ned used to say that 500 men can defend Winterfell against an onslaught of 10,000. Bran and Rickon (with Hodor and Osha) take shelter at a farm, to whom Bran had send 2 orphan boys a few weeks earlier, to work as farm hands.
Tywin begins searching Harrenhal for his officer's murderer. He tells Arya the story how the Lannister Castle was built to withstand an attack of ground forces. Harrenhall could repel an attack of a million men from land. But Aaegon Targaryen attacked with dragons from the sky and all of Lannister ancestors were roasted alive in the castle walls. Talking to Arya he is able to figure out that she is not a commoner and has a noble pedigree. Commoners say M'Lord and not My Lord (as Arya pronounces it) and that's her give away. She also knows everything about Targaryen history (Aegon rode with his 2 sisters, when they attacker Winterfell with their dragons) and claims that her father (a stonemason) taught her.

Ygritte keeps riling Job by saying that she is more free than Jon, even though she is his prisoner. The wild-lings chose Mance to be their King beyond the wall. Ygritte says Jon can be free too and fish and hunt and sleep with a woman at night, if he joins them. After a momentary lapse in Jon's concentration, she escapes and leads him into a trap.
