Finally an episode from season 7 that makes me want to continue watching the rest of the season. HIMYM is my favorite TV show but I was starting to lose faith. Season 7 has been moving very slow with the story line and the humor has been only okay at best. This was by far the best episode yet.
Personally I am not a fan of Kal Penn. I mean sure, he makes a great Kumar, but quite frankly I'm getting a little sick of him. Having a therapist as a part of their group does make sense in this episode, however, with Barney's made up story of how he "lost" the ducky tie. I was very impressed with how they incorporated this, but I think it is about time to get rid of Kal Penn.
Hurricane Irene plays a big part in this episode. The writers tend to keep the show as current as possible, which I am sure most people appreciate. I was more intrigued by the character development in this episode more than anything. It was clear from the beginning of the season that Robin was either not completely over Barney or her feelings are resurfacing. I thought it was very clear that this would be the main story for quite some time, but then Robin started dating Kevin. I was a little annoyed when they took the focus off Robin's secret love merely because I knew they would find a way to bring it back. And sure enough, they did.
The end of the episode was a complete shock to me. Barney has finally fallen in love and I was ready for his character to change permanently. Apparently the writers had other plans.
I hope I am not the only one who remembers this next part. It takes place in season 6 episode 21 titled "Hopeless." Robin runs into a her secret crush but Ted ruins it for her. At the end of the episode it shows her crush talking on the phone saying "So that's the end of that" and future Ted says "It wasn't, but more on that later." I really hope the writers stick to this promise, I have been waiting for a sign all season.
Overall I think this was a solid episode and will hopefully lead into another great season of HIMYM.
