Survivor Series 2011 Thoughts

Survivor Series 2011 was the 25th annual Survivor Series PPV event produced by the WWE. The show took place on November 20, 2011, at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Attendance was sold out at 16,749 with the buyrate from home being 281,000. I know right? Even The Great One making his in-ring return couldn't boost this long-time annual PPV up a big notch.

6 matches were on the card with the main event being R-Truth & Miz vs. The top face of the company John Cena and his upcoming WrestleMania opponent, The Rock (who was wrestling his first match since March 2004). Another notable feud saw CM Punk finally getting his one-on-one opportunity to get his WWE Championship back from Alberto Del Rio, who cashed in the MITB contract at SummerSlam earlier in the year against Punk. This would be the beginning of Punk's Milestone reign as the WWE Champion.

The Good - Opening match for the US title was pretty good. It had a small issue with the smarky crowd jeopardizing it with numerous chants but Ziggler and Morrison both were able to go through it without frustration. I also enjoyed the Survivor Series match as it was really fun. It was well paced and the Survivors Cody and Barrett looked like good heels with potential in the future. It's too bad this victory didn't lead them into anything in the future (at least for the few upcoming years of one of them). The WWE Championship match had the crowd hot all match. Punk & Del Rio had great chemistry and the victory was probably one of Punk's most satisfying in his career with titles.

The Meh - The Rock no doubt still had it. And he looked phenomenal in the ring. The match though was meh. Just your regular tag team match that you see all the time but made for the Rock to close with the hot tag. Another issue with it was the thin roster that lacked any heels worthy enough to take on Rock & Cena. R-Truth and The Miz just weren't to be taken seriously enough as threatening or big heels. But it was entertaining and The Rock fought well.

The Bad - I didn't care for the Divas title match at all I truthfully don't remember hardly anything it. I will compliment the two stars going at (Beth Phoenix and Eve Torres) being ahead of their time for two good performers. Mark Henry vs. Big Show was a boring match with a lousy ending but it did in some way managed to pop the crowd with a particular moment. Sad how much the World Heavyweight Championship declined around this period.

Overall - Nothing really blows my mine out of this show. Two good title matches and a fun Survivor Series match but that's it. I don't think it's worth an entre rewatch for a long time.
