Leonard's bully is Sheldon's father
makeupmyday13 January 2021
On The Big Bang's spin off show "Young Sheldon," Sheldon's father is played by the man playing Leonard's bully in this episode.

Warning: Spoilers
Well, I just gotta admit, for all the brains watching this show, NOBODY saw what had to be done. When Speckerman was leaving, instead of offering him a place for the night (during which he sobered up and then showed his real colors), The smart thing to do was walk down to his car with him, get his license number, and call the local constabulary. This accomplishes more than just a little revenge. It gets a drunk driver off the street, and maybe it wakes Speckerman up to the fact that he needs help.

This bully hadn't changed overnight, and he wasn't going to quit drinking and driving without a serious notice from reality. This wouldn't just be payback, it would actually be the right thing to do; given that everyone was scared of the creep.

I don't like being self righteous, but it worked for and to me.

What to say

Warning: Spoilers
Well, this episode seems to be made in a rush. In the first scenes, I kinda noticed that Jim seemed to be overacting-- and that's something he rarely does. In other scenes, I feel the lines are very poor and there's not much comedy in their situations. Donating thing was indeed weak and I don't think I had even a single laugh. Also, almost all of the real funny lines come from Sheldon; the rest of the cast is just too out of lines. Even Kaley seems to be overacting sometimes. Not to mention that Amy's character is getting further and further from her funny and nerd personality she always had in this show. I really hope this season gets better...

Leonard, I'm Your Father
Hitchcoc15 October 2021
In this episode, Leonard meets a man who made life miserable for him all through school. The guy has a business proposition and barely remembers this bully (played by the guy who plays Sheldon's father on "Young Sheldon). Leonard makes a list of transgressions but chickens out; however, Sheldon brings it up. In the end, things work out interestingly.

"The Speckerman Recurrence" was another hilarious ep of "The Big Bang Theory"
tavm22 May 2012
A few weeks after watching the movie Bully, I finally watched this ep of "The Big Bang Theory" about a similar subject. Namely that Leonard's tormentor Jimmy Speckerman (Lance Barber) returns to his E-mail to ask for a meeting. The other guys go along with Leonard to offer support. Meanwhile, after Bernadette and Amy recount their own bully stories, Penny says her school didn't have any...before revealing having a classmate dressed like a scarecrow with corn in her mouth. I'll stop there and just say I thought this was another hilarious ep of "TBBT" especially with Sheldon's zingers. With the TV season almost over (looking forward to the finales of "Dancing with the Stars" and "American Idol"), look for my reviews of the rest of the season under my username here...

The Speckerman Recurrence

Warning: Spoilers
Of course the big 'novelty' of this episode now we have 'Young Sheldon' is seeing Lance Barber (who plays George in that show) pop up here as Leonard's bully from high school.

I didn't think this episode worked as well as it could have. The plot didn't seem to go anyway. Also I believe there was another one where the characters were faced with a bully and had to confront them. Didn't they send Penny in to fight their battle instead?

The plot with the girls works much better in my mind and I like the dynamic between them. It gives the character of Penny a few more much needed layers to her personality too, as we realise she probably wouldn't have been friends with Amy and Bernadette (who works much better without Howard actually) in High School.

Overall, fine, but not amazing.
