This show is an incredible glimpse behind the scenes at a brilliant haunt. It showcases an amazing build team and cast who really do excel within their field. Seeing the creativity that goes into something like this is a treat, and even more so to see how it is all brought together and eventually run during their open season. It is no doubt an absolutely premium haunt experience on show.
All of that makes it so glaring when the lead man, Robbie, comes across as insecure as he does! Everything that Door 17 produces is absolutely something to be immensely proud of, but watching the show Robbie seems to really be lacking a lot of personal confidence. The multiple scenes of aggression towards his wife are particularly uncomfortable to watch, especially when you know how much work and effort she puts into the business. The rest of the team also seem to put up with some anger issues coming from Robbie - which is baffling when he is able to coach one of his employees, Dylan, regarding his own anger problems in the later episodes! Robbie, dude, you have so much incredible work to be proud of that blowing up with so much anger over things like negative reviews and them taking it out on your wife and colleagues is as confusing as it is unprofessional!
It's this reoccurring theme of Robbie's anger issues and mistreatment of the others around him that made the show lose some points for me. It just becomes an uncomfortable and unpleasant watch - past that of reality TV and erring more towards the realms of a marital abuse training tape. Not entertaining, but just sort of sad.
Still - the show is absolutely worth a watch for the amazing feats of engineering and creativity that the cast pull of, and I would recommend it. And Robbie if you read this review and it pisses you off, please don't take it out on Heather like you seem to normally do!
