not for Lifetime
SnoopyStyle13 August 2023
Sadie Smith (Jenna Dewan) moves to a small New Hampshire town to start a dance and fitness studio with a massage parlor in the back. The movie opens with the studio being raided and her being arrested. Her saloon neighbor April Macintosh (Jennifer Irwin) apologizes. April is a friend, her first client, and her landlord. Carol Martin is the town's gossipy reporter.

The story is laid out by the thirty minute mark. This would work better with more irreverence. This should start with April as the lead. Jennifer Irwin is the best actor in the cast anyways and she's hilarious. They need to use this strength and make this a comedy. Sadly, this is airing on Lifetime and there is no room for outside-the-box thinking. This should be a black comedy. It's just not for Lifetime and April's moral whiplash really set my head spinning.

Waste of time

Low budget horrible movie. A total waste of time. It is nothing more than a knock off of "The Client List". It's worse than a high school production. Feels like the script was nothing but a college writing project. This movie has no redeeming qualities. Can't call the cast actors as they have no talent. The cast is just a a beginners acting class. Seems like even they don't like the movie either. They are just going through the motions. Lifetime has been turning out so many movies the past few years that there is very little quality in anything they do. Hopefully Lifetime will start caring about what they are producing.

I loved this movie!

Despite a title that couldn't help but make me think of Olivia Newton-John, I loved this movie. The best thing about it was it was sex-positive and showed a woman who was fiercely independent and in control of her own destiny freely and unashamedly taking up a career in sex work and doing it as op-enly and proudly as the law allowed. I even liked the fact that welters Margaret Froley and Kelly Fullerton raised the question of whether prostitution should be illegal at all. Given that most Lifetime depictions of prostitution show the girls (and sometimes guys) involved in it as human-trafficking victims or people tricked into it by abusive, exploitative pimps masquerading as boyfriends (a pattern all too common in real life as well), it's nice to see a film that presents sex work as a reasonable choice for a liberated woman. I also loved 41-year-old Jenna Dewan's performance as Sadie; at a time in life when most women are considered past their prime physically, her overall sexiness and clear comfort with her body make her believable as a woman whom some men would freely and happily pay to have sex with her.

If the goal was to make the worst movie ever, they succeeded!

Warning: Spoilers
Warning Spoiler Alerts!!! The main character played by Jenna Dewan really carried the movie but the writing was cheesy and horrible. The movie starts off with her planning to do a crime in a small town with the expense marriage's being broken. We are supposed to act like this ring of crime has brought positive to the town. The only reasonable character is the one that I think we are supposed to disagree with. The character played by Jenna says she will continue to go from small town to small down to do this. Who wrote this movie? It's too cheesy and really weird! The main character is selfish, are we supposed to feel like it's ok because your husband wasn't involved LOL.

interesting plot for a lifetime movie

Warning: Spoilers
The beautiful Jenna Dewan is starromg in a very different role. We know Jenna Dewan from her roles in The Resident (TV) and other works.

Ok, so let's get the main question out of the way - a double life is something we all kind of live or want. But combining prostitution and fitness classes, I have never seen that before.

Our lead actress moves to a different town after getting arrested in the old place. Starts up a new business in New Hampshire and gets the local gossip mill going.

An average movie with a very quirky plot line. The movie is "as expected" and is predictable. Good enough for a lifetime movie, but nothing extraordinary.

Great shots of Jenna.

Saving a Town's Soul
lavatch17 October 2022
Warning: Spoilers
A stranger arrives in a small town that considers itself high and mighty and virtuous. His plan is to expose the corruption seething beneath the surface. That was the essence of Mark Twain's unforgettable short story "The Man That Corrupted Hadleyburg." It also is the gist of the film "Let's Get Physical."

Miss Sadie Smith arrives in the small town of Luton, New Hampshire bent on bringing a new energy to the community. She opens a dancing and fitness studio on High Street called Dazzle & Spin.

The centerpiece of the main hall is a set of poles. Could this be a training ground for strippers? Behind the scenes there is a massage bed. Eventually, it becomes clear that the establishment is a full-service salon that is part and parcel of the oldest profession in the world.

A couple of the prudish women of the town go after Sadie with a vengeance. Ultimately, she goes to prison for a year. But the reeling community realizes that the former Las Vegas showgirl had brought a newfound energy to Luton, kicking new life into stale relationships and challenging the local leaders to reach for new heights in such endeavors as charities. Will they now be able to make amends to their savior?

The film lacked the satirical bite of Mark Twain's story. It also relied on a smarmy ending for cheap sentimentality, as opposed to exposing the shortcomings of such zealots as April in the hair salon and Carol in the local newspaper.

Jenna Dewan was fabulous in the role of Sadie, and she is a terrific dancer to boot. "Let's Get Physical" was a nice change of pace stylistically for a Lifetime movie. And everyone will look forward to seeing Jenna in future Lifetime films.
