- 2012 Winner Screenplay AwardFrom the jury statement: "Kim Fupz Aakeson creates characters, caught in their own lies, isolated in the darkness of the polar night, unexpectedly making decisions which are remote in their logic whilst staying emotionally comprehensible. The story surprises us with blatant clarity in this gloomy emotional family-drama which shows - with empathy but without pity - what non-admitted guilt leads to in humans. "Mercy" manages to wander the edge between emotion, distance, empathy and anger and you find yourself tempted to walk the morally wrong but easier way of lying. This ambivalence releases the audience divided between a feeling of justice and a lot of material to think about. We congratulate Kim Fupz Aakeson for this touching and disturbing story."
