2022 Season off to Weak Start
polsixe26 March 2022
The overall show was annoying, swoopy camera, zooms in and out, too much emphasis on the judges and host, just show the act can you? They are the show, the way it was shown it was hard to see why Howie was so impressed with the choir for example. Some derivative acts from recent AGT seasons, audience seemed flat or muted.

Such a shame.
debbieschultz-5139526 April 2023
What a disservice to the talented acts. We rarely see an entire performance. Is this the producers fault? No one cares to consistently see the audience or judges' reaction while the acts are going on.

So many performances could have been riveting, especially the acrobatic, dance and thrill acts.

Perhaps the producers thought this was an artistic way to showcase our Canadian talent, but alas, fell very, very short.

I would have rated the show higher if I was to speak directly to the talent acts, but the way the camera captures the action loses all the impact.

This could have been so captivating, but instead comes off as irritating.

What a shame!

Started good - ending poor
wildwitchca8 April 2012
I have watched this since the start. I was so happy to watch so many talents get showcased. Wow - there were so many acts that amazed me. I even had to keep track of who I enjoyed each week and there were so many! Now it was time for the semi-final selections. I had my list of about 50 acts ready and I was cheering them on. Suddenly all these acts were interviewed and I had no idea who they were. Where were the ones I watched and enjoyed? Oh....they were eliminated! WHAT!

So out of the 36 acts that you want to show and promote Canada's Got Talent - are not worth watching or voting for. Why did you have to ruin a show that is an international winner!

I'm proud to be Canadian but I am disappointed in who they chose to promote my home and native land. They just had the second semi-finals show and I did not vote. There were no acts to vote for. If you read the online media you will see the votes are based on popularity - not talent.

Why did you take something and ruin it? Maybe you need better judges because these acts will not make Canadians proud. It will make us hide our heads in shame.

Worst show ever
helenlinda-1229823 March 2022
If I could give this show less than 1 star I would.

I could not even finish the first episode.

I thought Canada would do much better than this.

The only upside was Howe Mandel. The downside is the terrible hosting and other judges.

Everyone has a sob story. I want to see their talent not hear their woes.

Canada's Got Talent, but this show doesn't
orangejuices22 April 2012
CGT is a smaller, friendlier, and tamer spin off of its international counterparts.

Because Canada is a much smaller country than the U.S., the show will never get anywhere near the ratings that its American cousin gets. This means that the show must operate on a much smaller budget. Corners are cut in many obvious ways: The award for first place has a value of approximately $200,000, compared to $1 million for AGT.

Each episode is half the length of the American version: 1 hour for the performance episodes, and 30 minutes for the results show (compared to 2 hours and 1 hour respectively for AGT).

The show also must be much less accommodating for its contestants: They don't have the budget to fly in and put all their contestants in hotels. This means that there is no "judges round". Unlike the American version where contestants must perform, without an audience, in front of the three judges, in order to advance to the semifinals, contestants on the Canadian show make it to the semifinals based purely on the merit of their regional audition. Finally, only 36 contestants perform in the semifinal round (compared to 72 for the American version).

But let's get down to the most important aspect of this show: The quality of the performances. To put it quite simply, they suck. This isn't due to any lack of talent in Canada itself. The main culprit is a very poor and disorganized screening process for the show. The process of culling tens of thousands of auditions down to the best few dozen is a very difficult logistical task, and the producers of the show simply don't know how it's done.

One other very obvious difference with the Canadian version is in the judging. Many people say that the three judges (Stephan, Dina, and Martin) are much nicer than the judges on the American show. And they're right. After all, politeness is a quality that Canadians are very proud of. But here's the thing: That's not a good thing, that's a very bad thing, at least for people wanting to vegetate on their couch and be entertained for an hour on Sunday night.

To put it quite simply, Canada's Got Talent judges have demonstrated astonishingly low standards. Incredibly, they allowed nearly ninety (!) percent of all contestants through to the second round. However, they didn't do themselves or the contestants any favors by being this generous: The excess number of acts were simply culled after the audition round.

As anyone who watches AGT knows, there are many acts on CGT that got three emphatic "yes"es from the judges that would have received three very quick buzzes from the American judges. (Daddy Cool, anyone?) Maybe somebody should have told the three that they're hired as judges, not cheerleaders.

The host of the show, Measha Brueggergosman, seems to follow the same pattern. She cheers on virtually every contestant with almost mindless enthusiasm.

I guess it wouldn't be fair to roast the screeners, judges, and the host, without giving due criticism to the one other group that has shown terrible standards: The audience. They're just as culpable in cheering on and supporting the mediocrity.

What all of this adds up to is a talent show that has about the same caliber of talent as what you'd find in a high school gymnasium. It's quite apparent that the judges care much more about not hurting the feelings of the contestants than curing the boredom of their viewers. And the way the host pumps up and cheers on even the most talentless of contestants make the show far too often seem like a grade school talent show.

Canada's got talent, to be sure, but you will see almost none of it by watching this show.

Canada's got WOKE TALENT
bakerpocky28 March 2022
That is what this show should be called as it is apparently more important than the talent aspect. As one act stated you should vote for us because our community needs to be recognized. What is happening to our Country ? Sad.

Fire the editing/camera teams for this show.....
nathansolo-707687 January 2024
F#%* off with non-stop unrelenting bs CAMERA SWITCHING EVERY 0.001 SECONDS! You literally cannot enjoy a single act due to the sporadic editing. Seriously... Who ever is in charge of production need to grow a pair and go into that editing room, rip them all a new one and fire the managers. The camera zooming in/out and the crane shoots were all done way to fast and were constantly cutting off parts of the bigger groups no matter which angle they switched to. Also I would like to actually get to see the exciting part of an act not the judges reactions to them... A complete shame to see what could have been a good show fall flat on its face because they had an amateur camera crew and then put a bunch of TALENTLESS buffoons in charge of editing a talent show.

Terrible camera editing
kirstenlinehan4 May 2024
Trying to watch this show makes me dizzy? Whose idea is it to change camera angles every 1.5 seconds? This could be an enjoyable show with some great acts but it's impossible to enjoy with the million camera cuts. It's constantly changing angles in the act, and flicking back to the audience or judges. It should just show a front view of the act like the live audience would see. This is some of the worst editing/producing I have ever seen. Really disappointing when they are trying to showcase talent from Canada and it's so difficult to watch. I actually have to turn away from the tv because it makes me dizzy.

The big red backdrop with lights overshadows every act
michelledyer-4693012 April 2023
The big stage red backdrop with lights to the show is way too distracting. That is all you see when watching the acts and should be toned down like AGT to suit the acts. The stage never changes, for instance if they have a soft singer make the stage mimick that as opposed to the loud red stage with moving lights, behind the singer.

Can't continue to watch a show that doesn't highlight the acts as much as the stage.

Love watching AGT and the producers should watch that and take some tips to improve Canada's got Talent.

There are too many quick tidbits of certain acts as well. Too bad, because there is some good talent.

Terrific talent but needs work
FcukBsuh11 May 2012
The talent has been remarkable, particularly considering the population of Canada. I enjoyed the audition rounds very much, very impressive.

The judges are generally great but increasingly rehearsed in their deliveries...Martin Short & Measha are terrific as judges, brilliant really...Moccio is adequate but very mechanical

I was very disappointed with the very rehearsed and contrived semifinal rounds as an agenda was palpable throughout...It increasingly lost it's charm as it went corporate, complete with shameless plugs for being politically correct and cross marketing...That made it almost unbearable to watch as the series winds down it's first season

The host, Dina Pugliese has to be the worst aspect of the show though..Zero presence despite being attractive...A bit masculine and pathetic in her attempts at humor or spontaneity...Everything comes across contrived and rehearsed - it's uncomfortable to watch her, frankly....Incredibly irritating to the point you want to start tossing fruit at her...It'll weigh heavily into whether I watch in the future or not

It's a competition, stop being nice.
crunchwraptaco4 May 2023
What a beautiful example of how to butcher a t.v show. I tuned in one day and the first thing I noticed was how the camera would keep cutting from the performers to the judges. I don't care to watch the judges watch the performers as I want to see the performance myself. Y The camera constantly cuts to the judges every 5 seconds almost causing me to swallow my own tongue. If the performer is on stage and performing, leave the camera on the performance, nobody wants to see Howie pick his nose and readjust his seat.

And what is the grand prize? $150,000 Canadian. That's like the average salary in Vancouver. This may be the only time where staying at your dead end job may pay more than winning Canada's talent show.

Better Than American Version
gcanadian31 March 2012
At first, I wasn't sure if I was going to like the "nicer" version of the "Got Talent" shows.

After the first show, I not only thought the "celebratory" tone of the Canadian show was refreshing -- I thought the talent was considerably better than the American version.

Canada has 1/10th the population of the U.S. and this show now demonstrates that Canadians have more talent per capita than 300 million Americans.

In addition, the three judges on this show are true respected performing artists -- unlike the American version. This gives the show added credibility.

Good but could be better
shaeisawsomez17 July 2013
Well since I'm a Canadian and have been all my life I would like too give you a vision from a Canadian stand point. There really is NO way in Canada too show off your talent unless its in a school talent show so it was great for showing of your talent. I do agree with lots of people that its not as good as the American version because of the funds and stuff but I still think they should have just left it on air because I was even thinking about going in if there was a season 2 because I hadn't even heard about CGT season 1 so I couldn't audition. So over all I thing CGT isn't better than AGT because of funds and just how small Canada is.

Here's my take on CGT
douglasvaleccs-9628328 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Oh boy, I knew bringing back this show from the grave was not a good idea.

I understand that Canada wants to stand out from our American counterpart, that being said there's still a lot of improvement to do on this show.

Speaking of which, this is another forgettable reality that is affected by the downfall of Canadian TV all thanks to social media, streaming services and overexposure of hockey in all mainstream networks like CityTV for example.

The host is forgettable and if I was Simon or one of the producers I would fire Lily and Kardinal - they are 2 of the meanest judges and its not a race/discrimination thing. Both are simply unlikeable - it happened in the NZ of X Factor.

If this show wants to stay afloat hire a well loved hockey legend like Wayne Gretzky for example and even an international star like Rita Ora. She has an extensive portfolio of TV appearances such as The Voice, Masked Singer, etc. In the UK, US and Australia, yet I would like to see her make her Canadian TV debut.

Disappointed overall.

Production choices kill viewers' enjoyment
LaZedBoy24 April 2024
4/10.

8/10 for the acts and touching moments.

Minimum marks for the video editing, and more points off every time the video editor cuts away from the talent to show audience, judges or host reaction shots. If you really want to add these valueless extras, they could be screen inserts instead of cutaways. More points off for every fractional-second cut. The show's name is "Talent", after all, so give us a chance to focus on the talent!

Maybe try thinking about why this show exists, and what the audience is looking for, and then make a few editorial changes. I keep coming back to see the talent; then I keep being disappointed every time the producers prove that they hate their audience.

Great Show! Please bring this back!
aarushwalia23 June 2020
This show was the best. I auditioned but of course never made the cut. I still watched the show though. The judge and the hosts were so professional. In 2020, they made a spinoff called ''Canadian Family's Got Talent''. It was just a segment on Breakfast Television. It was judged by Simon Cowell and hosted by Dina Pugliese (the host of the original show!) and Devo Brown. Simon hinted that we need our own show, and I hope it comes true!
