Just Another Excuse For MM to Talk About Herself
brigittebaker2 April 2023
"...what would Archetypes be without a long-winded soliloquy from Meghan about Meghan?" - Kara Kennedy, The Spectator. Talking over her guests, making the conversation all about herself, MM attempted to use this entire podcast to rewrite her own history and get even more of her own narrative out there in the world.

But when The Queen of Shade, Miss Mariah Carey, said that MM was also giving diva vibes, I almost fell off of my chair laughing at the scrambling MM was trying to do to deny it, even though the premise of the whole show was that having standards and asking for you what you want is a good thing, and that there was nothing wrong with being called a Diva. Here's a little snippet of what I'm talking about:

MC tells MM, "You give us diva moments sometimes Meghan."

MM laughs anxiously and responds, "I do? What kind of diva moments do I give you?"

MC then explains, "It's the visual!"

And MM says, "See that's the thing! I associate it differently."

MM clearly had a visceral reaction to MC, one of the greatest divas, calling her a diva. At the end of the episode, MM then speaks alone in a voiceover and recounts that moment for her listeners, and how uncomfortable that moment made her feel.

"It was all going swimmingly, I mean really well," MM gushes. "Until that moment happened, ..., (and) it stopped me in my tracks when she called me a diva! You couldn't see me, obviously, but I started to sweat a little bit. I started squirming in my chair in this quiet revolt, like, wait, wait, no, what? How? But? How could you? That's not true, that's not... Why would you say that? My mind genuinely was just spinning with what nonsense she must have read or clicked on to make her say that. I just kept thinking, in that moment, was my girl crush coming to a quick demise? Does she actually not see me?" (We all see you girl.) MM to try to deny the fact that she is, in fact, a diva!

BEST PART OF THE WHOLE SERIES! It should be Mariah Carey's podcast from now on. She has no problem with the truth. 💯

Two star review, and that's all down to Queen Mariah!

Rather dated..
wendybirds-142942 April 2023
I personally found the podcasts pretty outdated in terms of real life issues women face today. The 'barriers' Meghan Markle discusses in the podcasts have been discussed on so many other occasions and sprinkling some 'celebrity discussion ' into the mix doesn't add much to the wider discussion in my opinion.

Its perhaps harsh to say some of the points are irrelevant, but it could have reached much further into current issues for women in the workplace, looking at lower pay rates and promotion to higher levels of responsibility. Certainly in the UK there's plenty of evidence to support these discussions. Evidencing the barriers with facts and data rather than anecdotal stories adds more weight to the argument.

In addition I struggle with Meghan Markle as a presenter of this series. She has used this platform and others to forward her own agenda and whether her allegations are true or false they affect her credibility as a presenter which is another issue in my view.

As a Spotify customer i hope they can find more credible input to pay for in the future.

Boring and Shallow
StonehengeStan2 April 2023
I tried to give it a chance because I was a fan of Meghan, but I started to like her less after each episode.

After everything else she's put out, sadly I am no longer a fan.

I hope "Archetypes"(stereotypes, lol) doesn't get another season.

The episodes themselves just seemed very self absorbed, the focus was always on Meghan the most, not the amazing women she was supposedly interviewing.

I guess after Mariah Carey called her a diva, she apparently no longer wanted to personally interview the majority of her guests. She was correct though, Meghan is a diva. Not in the impressive way that Mariah is, but in a pathetic, attention seeking sort of way.

Reviews were misleading best podcast give it a chance
joycengombo11 January 2023
I really enjoyed this podcast quite curious to see the performance considering the fact they had negative reviews to my surprise I was completely wrong, it was absolutely fantastic it gave great insight on the archetypes and how it impacts modern-day women. I really thought it was a great opportunity to understand this topic yes she might not be the most popular or the most liked person at the moment, but this podcast is very revolutionary and people should take it as an great opportunity to understand and reflect on how these archetypes can impact woman from their careers and day-to-day lives.

Incredible Podcast-- revolutionary
medhavibhardwaj7 January 2023
I find it difficult that most of these reviews argue Megan 'talks too much' or 'interrupts the guests.' Please be aware that this is an educational podcast attempting to counteract barriers, and every barrier she discusses is present in the negative reviews below. I am horrified that people think this is an interview-podcast situation. It's an educational podcast! It's a collage of conversations, tidbits from shows, phone calls with guests. I've been listening to this every morning, and almost every. Single. Time. Tears form at my eyes when the closing, I AM WOMAN, anthem plays.

Meghan deconstructs the issues, stereotypes, that exist in society. She brings in women that have first hand experience. Discussing the word Bimbo and interviewing Paris Hilton, and allowing her to share her own story and describe HERSELF is SO revolutionary. Her conversation with Candace Bushnell resonated with me, especially, because she dove into limiting archetypes of female protagonists. That you can really only be the hot one, the smart one, the funny one, or the shy one, and NEVER all at the same time. The episode on motherhood, with First Lady of Canada, Sophia Trudeau, really helped in understanding the struggle of my own mother. In nearly every podcast, every archetype I had made for myself, my peers, my family. For the women in my life. They were broken down. As a self-proclaimed feminist, and political science major, I've been very outspoken in my social justice. Meghan opened my eyes to the underbelly of the beast; the social constructs WITHIN society perpetuated by popular culture, rather than just government or politics.

I urge everyone that is hesitant to listen to this podcast, to begin with one that resonates with them. I loved the conversation with Serena Williams, but I found that it didn't properly encompass the complexity of this podcast. It was structured like an interview, but the podcast is, first and foremost, informative. It has doctors and sociologists and authors. It has real women, in the public eye. She shares her own experiences, as well.

I've never been a fan of the monarchy, so I assure you this is very unbiased. I would argue against many of these negative reviews as INCREDIBLY bias. After understanding the data of online hate regarding Meghan and Harry, I'm very curious to know whether these reviews are genuine, or come from a place of hatred against the Duke and Duchess for their roles in the monarchy, rather than reviewing this for what it is: a podcast.

Warning: Spoilers
If you are reading some of the insulting previous reviews with poor ratings they are the same bots and people leaving false reviews on other platforms.

Insightful, articulate and a different point of view on women of all backgrounds. I found no projections of narcissistic victimized. On the contrary it was interesting seeing others takes on their experiences. Most negative responses on here all have the same verbal garbage that they drag on twitter. I say give the podcast a chance and listen to a few episodes. There is a reason she has been nominated for awards and nods. I commend her for stepping outside the box.

Not even worthy of 1 star

Too say I was disappointed is an understatement what should have been a good back and forth in each episode became it's all about Me and what has happened to me and the provable lies that we're spun as truth all made me think what was the point In This podcast at all. The presenter was rude self centred and treated her guests very poorly and the added list production bits like people are morons and did not understand what had happened in the episode was a joke, but I suppose a narcissist required to have the last word and spin the narrative In their minds. I would not recommend this to anyone.

reviews Should be Based on Honesty
edsallady14 December 2022
Sad that people use their personal dislike for the host to post negative reviews even though they have not listened to the podcasts. Behind the screen bullying has become a stain in our society.

The guests are interesting as well as the subject matter. I haven't decided which is my favorite segment, but I especially enjoyed the segment with Mariah Carey. She helped to return dignity to the word DIVA. Paris Hilton's segment was an eye-opener. I don't think many of her critics know of her traumatic experience in the private school but I'm happy that she came out on the other side. Hats off to Jamella for standing up to her role as an activist. Having male guests for the last segment was quite a surprise. Thank you Trevor Noah of the compliment to women.

The last thing women need is amateurs -- and no, this isn't a hate review
favafruit2 April 2023
There is an art in hosting a podcast. It's not having a chat with your.be buddy. It's not having a monologue where you get to vent your views and interrupt the guest. Your job is to make your guest feel comfortable. Encourage them to talk about themselves. An Amateur relates what the guest says to herself and then goes on a diatribe, leaving the poor guest in the dust. The audience came to listen to learn more about the guest. That was the contract. A podcast host is in breach of contract when she uses the podcast as an excuse to give her views.

What's the difference between a podcast and a straight interview? The podcast should have give and take conversation. To put it simply, the host says a little something to elicit a response from the guest and then feeds off of what the guest says. If the conversation gets dry, then the host can initiate a new topic. The host should also channel the guest to talk about what the host believes the audience wants to hear.

Unfortunately Meaghan was not trained to be a podcast host. On her first podcast she went on for 11 minutes and gave a speech. She repeated stories about her childhood such as the dish soap commercial which has already been covered many times and has even proven to be inaccurate. She has not learnt restraint and continues to interrupt her guests which is the exact opposite of what a good podcast host should do. The whole point of the podcast is to create an atmosphere for the guest to express herself freely in a way she might not in formal interviews.

If this podcast has won any awards, it only proves that money can buy anything. It is sad that the public can no longer trust awards given out.

Conversation for all communities
artpspdesign25 October 2022
This podcast was so needed...a needed discussion on every stereotype attached to women. I love that Meghan creates a conversation for all communities. I appreciate the way Meghan puts all her guests at ease so that they are confident to be themselves. I admit that for some guests, I had prejudices and I appreciate having had another perspective. The episode with Issa Rae and Zewe is so powerful. This angry black woman stereotype is so cruel and inhumane. And I'm glad this discussion happened. I remember dozens of articles written about Meghan by British people who said she was aggressive, mean, etc. Because as soon as they looked at her, they saw the color of her mother's skin. It is unconscious in some but very conscious in racists. And on a lighter note, her voice is made for podcasts.

The podcast I didn't know I needed
qvhvpt25 October 2022
Every episode leads me down a path of self discovery and reflection. The guest are always a surprise and the topics they explore resonate so much in today's society. I especially love how Meghan is so good at making guest comfortable enough to be vulnerable and trust that she's giving them a safe space to have these tough conversations. Every episode is my favorite episode until the next one is released. The Constance Wu episode is one in particular that lead me to the most therapeutic cry I've ever had. She has managed to put together a podcast that I will be revisiting for some time to come.

"Stereotypes"
sararistictodorovic11 November 2022
Perhaps Ms. Markle found that a podcast named, "Stereotypes", would be too boring. Perhaps she is intent on inserting her son's name into every business endeavour ("Archewell", for example). However, since she has claimed to be such as nerd, and a wordsmith, she should seriously be aware of the fact that the title of her podcast is a misnomer. It is all the more comical when one hears inserts of the podcast where the "Duchess" plainly refers to an obvious stereotype as an archetype. It honestly grates on my ears, and I don't even listen to her drivel; and I can't fathom why anybody would. There's always the possibility that she has done this on purpose, to get a rise out of her critics. Whatever the reason, a 0.55 second Google search can clarify the difference between a stereotype and an archetype, for her not so royal highness.

Truly inspiring
kemialo25 October 2022
This series is a must listen for women navigating today's society which often tries to limit and tear down one's self esteem and achievements by using belittling language.

My personal favourites are the episodes with Mariah Carey , Mindy Kaling, Paris Hilton and Issa Rae. Truly a SUPERB, well produced series.

The lyrics, vocals and musicality of 'I am Woman', the soundtrack is empowering.

My daughters will certainly listen and I will encourage all women in my life to as well. Well done Meghan for using your voice despite the bullies, racists and lies used to try to diminish you. You are a survivor and therefore a winner. You are LOVED!

Every episode is better than the last.
mprince24825 October 2022
I had high expectations of this podcast to begin with and it exceeded all my expectations. I love the diversity of guests. I think this is the most guests of Asian descent that I've seen on a program that wasn't by someone of Asian descent. The mix of personal stories, openess by her guests, and inclusion of expertise by researchers is a winning combination that I expect future podcasts to copy in the future. I also find it fascinating that all of the guests say she covered topics they've never discussed or were asked about in the past. If all that isn't reason enough to give her podcast a listen, her smooth voice is another reason. My personal fave is her podcast with Mindy Kaling about singledom.

A Self Serving Debacle
sblakley-292432 April 2023
While I really would have liked to hear more from the quests, Markle has an annoying habit of interjecting herself into the conversation. It is less interview or even chatting "with a friend" over a defined topic and more a dissertation on how Markle perceives herself. It's forced, uninteresting and exemplifies why people have said in other reviews, that's its more about Markle, less about quests. Mariah Carey at least got a few words in. I won't tune in again. I have no interest in a podcast with celebrities that don't get to speak while Markle spends so much time on her favorite topic....herself.

Informative, diverse experiences and a good listen
maryjohn-649871 November 2022
It's a very good listen and very informative. It's the diversity that I love about it. The archetypes used against women, their history and how they are used in what context to make women look bad. Very relatable because me as a person has been subjected to such archetypes in my life. The guests picked and awesome and the historians and subject knowledge experts are great. The idea of this podcast is great and the delivery is awesome. I can fully relate to it especially in my professional life where I have been looked down because I am too "ambitious". Equating ambition with a women has been an archetype for a long time. It's a very good podcast, great information about how the archetype emerged and how society and people play into it. Also, Meghan's voice is great, perfect for podcast. And the guests were awesome and loved hearing their experiences.

Let's talk about Me
sianelaineb2 April 2023
I'm afraid I found it too hard to listen for more than a couple of minutes at a time. What a farce. I understand many of her guests were not even in the room with her which of course gave her the opportunity to talk about her favourite subject - herself.

The subject matter was, for the most part, not archetypical or even stereotypical - I'm not sure how they applied to the majority of listeners or even to Markle herself. It felt as if she was clutching at straws and her podcasts were, of course, peppered with veiled threats to the British Royal Family which she squeezed in between talking about a Meghan. Terrible.

All about Me, me, me...ghan!
eaharry2 April 2023
Meghan is supposed to be interviewing famous women to discuss various stereotypes about women, which she mistakenly refers to as archetypes, and what holds them back.

She spends most of the time talking about herself rather than interviewing some genuinely successful women in their own right, rather than through their husband's position. In one of the interviews Meghan talks for 10 minutes before deigning to let her guest speak. Meghan talks in circles, often not making a lot of sense as her words are seemingly chosen for how "intelligent" they make her sound instead of to make any point, basically word salad. She makes what could be interesting topics terribly boring with the focus on her. She will struggle to get guests if there is a future series, she was basically interviewing herself, and using their name to gain listeners.

Disappointed
qhsxvwxyqp2 April 2023
I tried to have an open mind, thinking I might find something that would redeem Meghan, but unfortunately the podcasts I experienced just showed her to have the same shallow, self absorbed and money chasing characteristics that have become so apparent to the world. I would not be paid to listen to any more of her self promotion, and felt sorry for her guests who in the main she treated shabbily and with little respect, it was all about her not them, they were click bait that is all. There are thousands of podcasts out there by truly inspirational women, this is not one of them. Give it a miss.

Every woman is unique and shouldn't be put in a box
jemims-6282825 October 2022
I started this podcast with a little skepticism, because there are so many podcasts and I don't listen to podcasts much. However, archetypes with Meghan really changed my mind on podcast, because of the topics on women and how we are affected by these stereotypes attached to us. The really impressive part for me is how diverse her guests are, and how open they are to share their own experiences. The podcast creates discussions, and pushes everyone to think outside the box that was created by society to keep women in line.archetypes is unique to me, because of the thoughts provoking it creates.

randibjornebye2 April 2023
The podcast sounded insincere and fake. The content deserves a word salad award.

The topics were out of date or not relatable and what her ambitions were seemed not to be addressed other then very happy with herself.

I would not recommend this to anyone. Hopefully Spotify will use there resources on someone who actually has something to say or achieved something. After the drama this person has put the royal family through the past 3 years it is sad that she is not held accountable for her statements that have been broadcasted on a worldwide platform without being held accountable for her damaging narratives.

An enjoyable listen
vuobioha1 November 2022
With each episode, we learn a new layer to the experience of being women and the words that knowingly or unknowingly hold us back. I love how each episode, we get to know little tid bits about Meghan outside of the context of her life in the UK. She is more than the family she married into and we get to see her be her intelligent introspective self and how she is very thoughtful in how she goes about her work with women. Archetypes is definitely a treasure to the podcast space. Ignore the negative reviews. They all prove why this podcast is so important. Meghan is a force to be reckon with!!!!

Appalling
vfmin2 April 2023
Utter drivel from start to finish. An interview requires you to ask questions and let the guest speak. This was entirely one sided. Mariah Carey being the only one who could get comment in and make me laugh. Accused her being a " Diva" in a friendly fashion whilst Markle took exception. Humour was absent from the episode Markle then added a rambling piece, telling us why she was not a Diva. Many episodes felt disjointed and pasted haphazardly together.

It seemed that every guest was regaled (pun not intended) by Markle and her own experience about each guests culture, with very little input from the guest. The rest is me, me , me and more me. I will not be tuning again.

Archetypes Is Groundbreaking
dedraclose1 November 2022
Archetypes is truly groundbreaking. I have been inspired by all of the episodes of Archetypes. Meghan is so engaging with all of her wonderful guests. Having a platform for these discussions is so timely. I have participated in group discussions on each episode. I have enjoyed them all. The first episode on Ambitious with Serena Williams was so intimate. Gaining insight on the Diva archetype from Mariah Carey was eye opening. Learning about Paris Hilton's background gave me an understanding and empathy towards her. I really loved Deepika Padukone and Constance Wu. I love the theme song 'I Am Woman' by Emmy Meli! Love Archetypes With Meghan on Spotify!

Self promotion - no value
joncrthomas2 April 2023
The entire series is a self-promotion for the host. There is nothing of significant value for any woman. The series promised to challenge the norm, however this never eventuated. If anything, it showcased one stereotype, being a privledged woman in today's society. Was hoping to hear from other perspectives. Whilst there were guest stars, it was obvious that this was very scripted to suit a certain narrative. To change the attitudes to woman in todays society, it is imperative to hear from men and woman. Only in the last episode so we hear from a man's perspective. No real entertainment value and not worth the.12 hours (12 episodes). Very disappointing.
