Greek Mythology has never been so funny!
bob22515 May 2021
Surprising that this motion picture, which features some fine editing, cinematography and performances, received relatively little attention. Although it is billed as a comedy, there is a wonderful theme of the consequences of one's actions that runs throughout the film. Its attention to the details of Greek mythology and character motivation, propelled by an absolutely wonderful screenplay, recalls the better Billy Wilder films.

As for the performances: there is not one single character flaw in this entire cast. The more times you view this film the more the casting continues to amaze and entertain - no one seems "out of place" or "unconvincing", and a surprise breakout performance by the farmer character, although brief, is a highlight. And when Athena falls in love with Chester Greenburg II and Aphrodite challenges her to a beauty contest, the shenanigans that follow will leave you howling. I currently own it on VHS but I'm hoping it is reissued sometime soon on Blu Ray or other format.

The film begins with Chester Greenburg II as an ultra-popular high school team quarterback and ends with the capricious passions of the Gods.....well, I won't spoil it, but you'll see - it's priceless!! Highly recommended.
