Okay chemistry with the leads, guy is a better singer
RichmondBread16 December 2022
The leads have good chemistry. I don't notice much age difference , imo, they look less than 10 years apart. I feel , that the film is just a vehicle for Jessica Lowndes singing. Her singing is very standard, at best. The male lead actually had a better voice. I guess because he is a man , they don't seem to care about his singing. He seems to sing a lot better and with more power. At times, the female lead is shrill, and even off key I'm not sure why the whole movie is just to compliment some girl singer with a voice that's not all that outstanding. It did feel less contrived than most movies of this type. I do think too much hyperbole was used in regards to the singing female lead.

Lots of great stuff, but lose the cliches ... PLEASE
VetteRanger30 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Broadcast as "I'm Glad It's Christmas". The original IMDB listing is "Someday at Christmas", but that may be corrected by the time you read this.

This was a very pleasant movie, and setting a different tone, it did break the mold in one way: There really were no character conflicts or major crises. We had a "bump and drop meet", but the writers resolved that amicably on the very next meeting. We had a grumpy boss, but she lightened up with no real tension. The romantic leads simply got along for the whole movie.

There was a lot of nice singing in the movie, but when Jessica Lowndes proclaimed at one point that a song "Wasn't in her key", she meant it. She sounds GREAT singing solo, but every time she sang with someone else she was off their key. Very odd and a little cringy.

The BIG cliche? Of course, the audition for her big break comes at the same time as the big show she's committed to and helping the male lead out with his chance to land a big client for writing ad jingles. And of course the person she must audition for can ONLY meet at one time and is catching a flight right after that.

It's the same old contrived conflict we see OVER AND OVER AGAIN in these movies. Writers ... you CAN do better. We really should NEVER see this overworked and unconvincing crisis again. PLEASE.

That took two stars off my rating.

Another woman gives up her dream for a man. OMG
mamachikn2 March 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The movie had potential and Gladys Knight was great.

After 5 years waiting for her dream, Chloe finally has a call back from a famous Broadway producer.

Of course the audition conflicts with another commitment, and is an annoying but standard trope for conflict in these Hallmark, now GAF movies.

And she gives up her once in a lifetime audition to do a community music production.

Not only that, but she still gets the part, and says "Are you sure?" To which the correct response would be, no, we're not sure, because if after 5 years, you still are unsure about your own talent, you are not ready for Broadway!

It's insulting to all those who work for their dreams for years with passion, to have a weak character as a lead female in a movie who has obviously given up.

The music was nice, though.

JL Too Overbearing
Pvrspecialist18 December 2022
I enjoy the Hallmark/GAC movies that have the actors singing or are instrumental. However, I do need to rant. This movie and Harmony of the Heart ends with Jessica Lowndes singing with another person supposedly in a duet. Both Paul Greene and Jesse Metcalfe are excellent and talented musicians and singers in their own right so why does Jessica need to sing soo strongly and loudly to drown them out. Especially insulting is her overpowering Gladys Knight in the last scene. JL already sang earlier bits in the movie so we know she can sing but it is pretty annoying when all you can hear in a duet or trio is her belting out as loudly as she can. Does she not know softly and harmonizing. Could be lovely scenes like in Country at Heart with Jesse Schram and Niall Matter, JS and Lucas Bryant. 7 because the story is appealing and Paul Greene is a good actor. Too bad he is no longer on WCTH.

Stop doing this to women
nkmcmahon11 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Standard cheesy cliche Christmas movie, you know what you're going to get. Seemingly nice for multitasking or to have on in the background.

SPOILER: But reason not to watch with girls: Until the lead decides to give up on her lifelong dreams purely for the option to pursue a man that made it clear her dreams didn't suit his life. Terrible. Don't act like this is ok or how women should act. A strong man would support her in her dreams. Disappointing. Even Disney has started giving women some strength, we don't need girls growing up watching this.

Now I'm just writing because I need more characters.

Was the male lead controlling?
catmeakin-8690413 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I feel really uncomfortable about how the male lead treated the female.

When she got her big audition he just cared about his song and he didn't encourage her and her dream and basically shut her out of the community for following her dream- this is NOT how to love someone it's controlling and selfish, she should look for someone who puts her first.

Just a platform for Jessica Lowndes
Jackbv12329 November 2022
The story is about a struggling performer who has reached the crossroads of deciding to abandon her dreams if she doesn't succeed by the year end. Chloe agrees to help put on a neighborhood show produced by Cora (Gladys Knight). The execution of the story has some rough moments and lacks depth. It relies on many of the formula Christmas tropes including "do you like like him?" The story even contradicts itself in the conclusion.

The acting is fair to poor. The dialogue is flat. Lowndes and Paul Greene have chemistry but it is not infectious. There are no great highs or lows or real surprises.

Lowndes sings several times through the movie, mostly in brief snippets. It seems like many movies Lowndes appears in that the movie is mostly an excuse for her to sing. Greene should not quit his day job. Both of these actors have moved from Hallmark to GAC Family and GAC seems to realize that Lowndes is an asset the more they allow her to sing.

The conclusion is the show and does include multiple performances including Gladys Knight.

The story and romance are just one more among many. The singing raises the movie above that but only marginally.

😳😳😳😳😳😳😳😳
maestromeg14 January 2023
As a professional musician, I am horrified that this woman (Jessica Lowndes) is called a singer. Simply listen to her duet of Deck the Halls with Paul Greene and you know she is not. She cannot match pitch and maintain a key from one phrase to the next. Maybe this was because of multiple takes? If so, why was there no consistent key established? Shame on the music production team for allowing something so painfully out of tune to make it to the final version. Maybe they can't hear pitch either. My musician husband and I rewound the scene about five times with our jaws on the floor. Have never heard such an unprofessional final musical product in a movie, except where the singer was SUPPOSED to be awful, like Florence Foster Jenkins. And then came Joy to The World, which wasn't. Sad to build an entire movie plot around this woman singing, when she cannot. I scored as high as four stars only because Gladys Knight and Paul Greene CAN sing.

Gladys Knight, Paul Greene & Jessica Lowndes
MovieDarling760012 December 2022
I'm Glad It's Christmas- was so enjoyable to watch & to have all 3 leads sing and sing together was fantastic!

This was not a typical Christmas cookie cutter Christmas movie! Don't understand the negative reviews? Please spread love not hate, especially during Christmas. The movie featured all new original songs. Beautiful voices and top acting from Gladys, Paul & Jessica. The chemistry between Paul Greene & Jessica Lowndes was pretty amazing. They were beyond adorable together. And how lucky are we to have THE iconic Gladys Knight in a holiday movie?! Such a blessing & gift, please watch feel good this movie! Absolutely loved the all the singing and would love to see more beautiful moments like these in upcoming Christmas movies.

Unremarkable, but visually rich
MickyG33330 December 2023
7.4 stars.

Whenever I watch a movie with Lowndes I get ready for disappointment, because she is so very pretty and multi-talented, yet her screen personality lacks pizzazz. She's one of those picture perfect gals that lights up the set and makes everyone enthusiastic. She doesn't have any sad or forlorn expressions, it's always happy, joyful, exuberant, sometimes a bit snobbish. Her characters are generally precocious and witty, but rarely does she exude any supreme depth of character. Her talents are limited where acting skills are in play, but she more than compensates with her raw beauty. It does appear she's had augmentation, but that doesn't change the fact that overall she has a confidence and style that only the top females exhibit. When she's on point, it's unicorns and shooting stars above the usual mundane stuff, and that's what I'm always anticipating. Alas I'm disappointed when it doesn't happen, as in 'I'm Glad It's Christmas'.

This film is nothing new, nothing special and the theme is worn out like an old sweater. Mr. Greene is not as obnoxious as usual, I was enjoying his portrayal of a father who writes jingles for a living and music as a hobby. He has a daughter, she's a really neat girl, but we don't get to see enough of her. Lowndes' best friend character was a nice motivator, but her part was not explored. I could see the actress who portrays her in a lead role at some point. The older lady who hires them to do the Holiday show is really great, I bet the casting director had to work hard getting her for this. I can feel that she demands perfection, and that shows in the person she plays in the story. She is a very kind and hopeful professional, perfectionistic, and true to herself. She does justice to the part.

The whole ensemble was good, but the entertainment level was lacking. I attribute this to an absence of chemistry. It feels like Greene is at least 20 years older than Lowndes and when I looked it up I see he's born in 1974, she in 1988. It's too vast a difference for me to find it plausible. While I imagine he's dapper for his age, it's still a stretch. Do they not have any other men who sing to fill this role? I do like him as an actor at times, it's hit and miss for me, as is she. If comparing them to a blackjack hand, in this movie he is standing on a hard eighteen and she decides to hold fast with a ten and two, because for now the dealer is showing a 6. Unfortunately, the dealer flips an 8 and a 4.

Don't watch it with girls
joyful-watcher18 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I don't understand why it is still allowed to make movies like this in 2022!!! Women must be encouraged to follow their dreams/careers and to find proper partners who support them in all their endeavors. Unfortunately, this movie showed again that finding some guy is the most important thing to do and the only thing which makes a woman truly happy.

Spoiler: The movie was okay up to the point when the female lead decided not to pursue her career because of the man, who she didn't even date and who told her that her career would not be compatible with their possible future relationship! I think it is a wrong message for girls. The guy didn't even apologize for what he said, and the happy ending felt like it was some luck and not the hard work of that woman.

Loved this movie, so much talent
MovieQween-3362228 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I wanted to start off by saying that I love Paul Greene. I was so Glad (😉) to see him in a movie where he can finally combine his wonderful singing with his great acting. Especially in a movie with someone has iconic as the incomparable Ms. Gladys Knight. She is such a legend and truly so graceful, sweet and of course beaming with that natural god-given talent in this film. Jessica Lowndes plays Chloe who is Jason's (Paul Greene's) love interest. Chloe is an aspiring Broadway star who's been turned down so many times she's ready to give up. Until that is, she meets Miss Cora (Gladys Knight) who unites her and Jason to combine their talents for a special show. The chemistry, writing, original songs, humor and singing talents were all absolutely wonderful from these three actors. As a fan of Paul Greene's, I have seen him work so hard on his singing, music and acting, especially since the Pandemic. It's wonderful to see everything come alive in this film. I've already watched it twice since it premiered and know it will be a favorite for years to come in my family. It's truly a special, sweet, musical feel-good holiday film for all to enjoy.

Age gap was weird
ays-1302412 December 2022
Although both lead actors are good looking and charismatic, the 14 year age difference between Paul Green and Jessica Lowndes was very obvious, and just a little bit weird. It made the whole movie feel off. I also wish that Hallmark would stop making movies in 2022 about women who give up their dreams to follow a man, especially to do some petty job like a cookie competition or a musical concert for the community and/or children. It was really not believable nor a great movie. When Hallmark gets it right, it's can be heartwarming and funny, but pumping out low budget flicks with nonsensical storylines is not where it is at.

My wife likes simple romantic movies. But that is a kind of school theatre second division.
hromov30 December 2023
5.9 stars?!?!? I've lost my faith in people. Everything was terrible. The costumes, the plot, edits, operator - nothing attractive.please, please find another option and do not waste your time. Shame on creators. Netflix made a mistake when add it to the library. Maybe teenagers will find something inside.

Watch "Home for Christmas" series and enjoy great humor and the plot. That was amazing.

You will not be disappointed. Happy new year to everybody. And I still need to write some characters to submit this review. But to be honest I've told everything I must to tell you.

What will we face in the new year? Tons of new content and you never watch it all. Choose the right stuff.

Disappointing
debradesigns26 December 2022
Loved Gladys Knight. She is very talented. Jessica Lowndes is a great singer but poor actress and should be used where her talent is. This script was not the best. Some. Users think this was a Hallmark movie but it is Great American Family..GAC has some good family movies but this was my least favorite.. Thank God for Gladys Knight who made it possible to watch. I think the script revolved too much on Jessica Lowndes and not enough on the real meaning of Christmas or the other supporting actors. It seemed lopsided.and awkward. It is easy to critique from a keyboard and these are my opinions. You may like the movie.

Wonderful, feel good movie!
emandmom29 November 2022
I thoroughly enjoyed this movie! I absolutely adore Paul Greene and will watch him in anything he stars in, when he smiles his whole face just lights up and such kindness shines out, he makes me feel good just looking at him.

I didn't realize what a great musician and singer he is until this movie. The rest of the cast were all so highly talented especially Jessica and her beautiful voice! I really enjoyed all the music and singing it was festive, beautiful and fun! Loved seeing the incomparable Gladys Knight, she looked and sound fantastic!

I really enjoyed the storyline, it's not the basic Christmas romance formula we've all seen on Hallmark, no this starts out with him letting the girl know upfront that he likes her and really would like to date her, she also feels the same but because she thinks she might be leaving and moving back home she doesn't immediately act on her feelings. They both grow to care about each other while putting together a Christmas concert. Jessica has a huge choice to make... what will she do?? I'm not saying but suffice it to say I think they all live happily ever after! (As they should!) Everything was so Christmassy looking that it put me in the mood to get up today and start decorating my own home for Christmas!

I really enjoyed the movie and will definitely watch it again.

Another one of those Christmas movies
tatjanakueth25 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
...where women don't deserve a shot at a career. So plot: Detroit girl Chloe moves to the Big Apple to make it big on Broadway - which of course is not happening. So she jobs in a gift shop in Jersey Until on one of those days when she is already late for work she bumps into small time jingle writer Jason. She continues singing everywhere and anytime for no apparent reason and people seem to be utterly charmed by her fabulous voice. And luck will have it that the lady who owns the building where the shop is located hears her and decides to rope Chloe and Jason into some amateur musical production of the neighbourhood. Jason is of course immediately in love with Chloe but to make things unnecessarily complicated, he is divorced and has a daughter so he can OF COURSE not let any girl nilly willy into their lives, and Chloe does not want to get involved as she has had it with the unsuccessful auditions and wants to go back to Detroit.

To make a tediously long story short: of course she finally catches a break and gets an audition on the exact same day and at the same time of the small neighbourhood production. After trying to move the audition it turns out the big time producer has no other time slot so now she has to choose: stick to the silly little musical thing or actually go to an audition that might in fact make her dream come true. And impressively she actually decides to go for the audition (good for you, girl). And while the lady producing the little neighbourhood show and love interest Jason seem supportive at first, dear Jason really turns out to be a bit of an idiot about it, when he tells Chloe that she should not come by the show after her audition cause he thinks his daughter got too attached to her and once she is famous on broadway Chloe won't have the time of day for them so it was better if she did not see his daughter. Nice one!!! So guilt ridden poor Chloe heads off to her audition and what does she do? You guessed it, she turns around and goes to the stupid little amateur show. Now of course this is TV so the nice little lady producing the amateur show happens to actually know the broadway producer and we have a happy end and both Jason and Chloe might get hired by her. So thank goodness because if only Chloe had gotten the job it would be likely dear Jason would have had to break up with her, as he already mentioned, she would have no time for him and his daughter if she had a career and was successful.

I have incredibly low standards for these movies already, but this one actually managed to pass under my limit, kudos for that. Acting terrible, script predictable Merry Christmas!

"I'm Glad it's Christmas" is the Correct title
tftmom-763752 December 2022
I seriously don't know WHY the Title of the movie is Listed WRONG here on this web page!!??? The correct title is as Listed in my preface above!!

This is an adorable movie with some wonderful singing. Gladys Knight ads some sparkle in her character. Yes, it's a typical boy with baggage meets girl but it's supposed to be a "feel good" story or it wouldn't be on this channel.

I think some of the critics here were critical because the story could've moved a little faster, there's a little bit too much "eye gazing" between girl and boy and there is a "Scrooge" person amongst the characters that the story probably could've done without, but hey, it's a Christmas movie.

I personally think with the awesome voices in the crowd there should've been More Singing, because it's a Christmas movie!!

It's definitely worth watching!!

Not bad
lisafordeay5 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I'm Glad Its Christmas, is a 2022 romantic musical starring Jessica Lowndes,Paul Greene and singer Gladys Knight.

The story follows Chloe (Lowndes)Bose, who's from Brockton, New Jersey and works as a clerk at Hollingsworth Gift Shop under the strict direction of manager Mrs. Berger, but Chloe's dream is to land a lead in a Broadway musical but she keep getting rejected. Meanwhile she bumps into Jason Murphy(Greene) a divorced father to preteen Angela who happens to be a jingle writer who's had some success writing for commercials, but like Chloe he wants to write songs.

Later they gain attention of Cora Lawson(Knight), a longtime property owner of many of the commercial buildings along Holiday Lane, and she is looking for someone to resurrect the Holiday Lane Christmas Concert to lift the Christmas spirit in the neighborhood, with Jason as the musical director and Chloe as the lead.

As Cora and Jason try to convince Chloe that this concert will be a big hit. As Jason and Chloe spend time together they slowly fall for each other. But when Chloe gets a callback for an audition that's on the same night as the holiday concert, what will she choose?

Overall it was a good film. The only gripe is the two main leads. Don't get me wrong they were great and the singing was great, but romantic wise it was creepy considering the fact that both main leads are 11 years apart.

Another winner
gigig-0099023 December 2022
This movie is one of the best Christmas movies this year. The cast was simply amazing. Gladys Knight singing in any movie is great but to have her singing Go Tell It on the Mountain and say the line When Jesus Christ was born. Is something that we never hear in movies and was perfect. Jessica Lowndes and Paul Greene were perfect together the song at the end I love. I will never understand why Paul never sung before in any of his movies he was a beautiful voice. The story was so good every one goes to New York in hopes of making it. Hope that GAC makes a sequel of this movie with the whole cast returning.

I'm so Glad for this movie
BurberryGal6 December 2022
This movie was a fun, musical film starring the incredible icon that is Ms Gladys Knight. How do you get more iconic?! Jessica Lowndes and Paul Greene also star and sing in the film. I loved how musical this was and that everyone got to show their talents with Gladys. She really lead this film and that was so much fun to watch. Paul Greene is one of my favorite actors & performers, I love that he got a chance to show off his singing talents while acting. He is really growing and rising in his career. Jessica Lowndes also sounded so great!! They had fun banter and good chemistry/ music compatibility. Really impressed with Paul Greene this year!!!

Wholesome
fumpa-5000126 December 2023
It was a beautiful simple Christmas movie. It was not as cringy as some Christmas movies but no need to overanalyse. Just watch it when in the right mood - aka around Christmas and enjoy the story. And in this day and age where everything is littered with virtue signalling, it was nice to watch something clutter free and wholesome.

A group of people working hard, trying to reach their dreams, opportunity knocking, supporting each other even when it means letting go and making the tough decisions one needs to make it in life.

Overall great vibes and brings the Christmas cheer to life. I enjoyed it.

Gladys Christmas
zkotpen14 January 2023
At its core, "I'm Glad it's Christmas" is a light, entertaining Christmas Rom-Com, full of cliché and recycled story lines that we've seen before, reasonably well done -- something I would normally rate as 6/10, if I watched it.

And then there's Gladys Knight in her supporting role, which even includes a small singing part.

As they say, a rising tide lifts all boats, and Gladys Knight is certainly the tide that rises, lifting the performances of the main and supporting actors, while giving greater meaning and a unique feel to the overall story.

For me, Gladys Knight lifts the entire production, and makes for good holiday entertainment.

I am glad to see Gladys
amarnold-5245321 January 2024
This movie is my new favorite. I loved it. There is a reason Paul Greene is called the Cary Grant of Hallmark. The man is the total package: he can sing, plays several instruments, & act. I don't know why people are hung up on the fact that he is several years older than Jessica. Who cares? Their relationship onscreen was convincing in my opinion. Alex Trebek was several years older than his wife. Seriously, I don't see what the problem is. Jessica done a great job. She has a great voice. I feel like Gladys & Paul brought out the best in her voice in this movie. I love how Paul and Gladys' characters encouraged her and let her figure it out on her own without a guilt trip. Lastly, it was so good to see Gladys. She was great in this role.
