If we're comparing failed Final Destination rehashes, Tarot is up there with the worst. Writers and directors Spenser Cohen and Anna Halberg aim for PG-13 sleepover-branded chills in Tarot, but sell the entire experience abysmally short. Their story about a cursed tarot deck is ludicrously underwritten and dopey, discarding established in-universe rationale mere minutes after cement dries. It's a movie that sequences events like they're mistakenly out of order, with Cohen and Halberg treating the audience like they’ve never seen a horror movie before — or maybe they’re praying we haven’t
In the film, stereotypical college students rent the equivalent of Scrooge McDuck's mansion on Airbnb for one of their birthdays. When the last beer can pops open, partiers panic and search the premises for hidden alcohol, which leads them into a musty once-locked basement filled with astrological artifacts — one being a hand-drawn deck of tarot cards in an engraved container.

Darren Lynn Bousman is known by many as the director behind much of the "Saw" franchise, the horror musicals "Repo! A few details have emerged for Patrick Fogarty's The 27 Club. This title, from Cleopatra Entertainment, looks at a strange, cultural myth. Why have so many celebrities died at 27? Kurt Cobain, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Jim Morris and many more have all dropped dead (usually due to excess) at this pivotal age. The film even has a guest appearance, from the grave, of Amy Winehouse. And, The 27 Club stars: Maddisyn Carter (The Devil's Carnival), Victoria De Mare (Killjoy Goes to Hell), Todd Rundgren and John Hennigan plays Jim Morrison. All of these actors come together in one of this year's more bizarre films. A preview of the film's upcoming launch is hosted here. The official synopsis talks of a singer-songwriter and a journalism student. Both characters are exploring the dark truth behind "The 27 Club." Their journey leads them into a world they may not be able to escape.

"There is no wrong or right in this place. You're just choosing not to see it." Signature Entertainment in the UK has debuted the official UK trailer for an indie horror thriller titled St. Agatha, the latest from horror director Darren Lynn Bousman. This new "twisted horror thriller" is said to push the boundaries of the "nunsploitation" genre, in a story set at a convent in Georgia. A pregnant young woman named Mary ends up there, seeking shelter only to be met with an unsettling and horrendous evil waiting on the other side. St. Agatha stars Sabrina Kern, Carolyn Hennesy, Courtney Halverson, Trin Miller, Lindsay Seim, Hannah Fierman and Seth Michaels. The footage from this trailer does look freaky, especially near the end when it goes all out crazy. Scary stuff. Here's the official UK trailer (+ poster) for Darren Lynn Bousman's St. Agatha, direct from YouTube: Set in the...

Horror movie director Darren Bousman has a new haunted house thriller coming out called Abattoir. I'm a sucker for horror flicks, and this looks like it could be really fun. It's got an interesting concept, and I want to see how the story plays out. As you'll see in the trailer, it's managed to get some solidly good reviews from horror fan sites.
Real estate reporter Julia Talben’s (Jessica Lowndes) life is turned upside down when her family is brutally murdered. Julia quickly realizes there is more to this story when she returns to the crime scene to find the murder room deconstructed and physically removed from her sister’s home. This ignites an investigation that leads her and ex-lover Detective Declan Grady (Joe Anderson) to the town of New English, where they meet town spinster Allie (Lin Shaye) along with the enigmatic...

Director Darren Lynn Bousman is known for thinking outside the box. After directing the first three Saw sequels, he directed a cult favorite rock opera about re-possessing body parts whose recipients have defaulted on payments (Repo! The Genetic Opera). Soon after that, he developed and toured his cinematic circus The Devil's Carnival, which included live performances at many screenings.
Bousman's latest offering, Abattoir, may not be as ambitious as those two, but it does seek to turn the standard haunted house theme on its head by asking the question, 'Can you build a haunted house?'

The night seems dead. Driving down 38th Street at a quarter to ten on a Sunday night, most of the houses are dark. A few pulse with the televised glow of Sunday Night Football or perhaps Fear The Walking Dead. For the most part, though, the Minneapolis neighborhood has seemingly gone to sleep. But up ahead at 42nd Avenue, a bright beacon of light splashes across the street. The Riverview Theater’s marquee juts out to greet passersby, and turning the corner proves that the night is in fact alive with saints, sinners, and everyone in between. Alleluia! The Devil's Carnival has come to town.

It's war between heaven and hell in Alleluia! The Devil's Carnival, making its world premiere tonight at Hollywood's Egyptian Theatre ahead of its upcoming Us tour. We recently caught up with director Darren Lynn Bousman and writer/actor Terrance Zdunich (who plays Lucifer) to talk about the highly anticipated musical film follow-up to 2012's The Devil's Carnival.
On the decision to have heaven as the setting of the sequel:
Darren Lynn Bousman: We always knew that Devil’s Carnival was about more than just the carnival. When we did part one, heaven is only glimpsed at for a few seconds. And we knew that the next one that we did, we had to give heaven the same amount of time we gave hell.
After Devil’s Carnival 1 was completed, Terrance and I started talking about what would heaven look like and what could we do to make the audience excited to see heaven.

Saw franchise director Darren Lynn Bousman is set to direct an indie sci-fi action movie called Apex. Bousman has made some interesting films in his career outside of the Saw movies, and they consist of Repo: The Genetic Opera, 11-11-11, and The Devil's Carnival. He has a unique style, and this should be an interesting project for him.
The news comes from THR who describe the project as "Predator meets Call of Duty." And the plot tells the story of "a Special Ops team, sent to obtain a Wmd from North Korea, that is transported to another world. The team then finds themselves pitted against a dangerous alien race."
James E. Cavanaugh came up with the idea and wrote the screenplay "with an eye on current scientific trends in physics and biology."

We've been talking about Darren Bousman's (Saw II, III, IV; Repo! The Genetic Opera; The Devil's Carnival) latest flick Abattoir for what feels like forever. Finally we have some solid news to report!
According to Variety Chad Michael Murray (pictured) is attached to star, with plans to deliver the flick by 2015.
Bousman is set to direct Abattoir, which will be produced by Radical Studios. Bousman will work from a screenplay by Christopher Monfette, who adapts the Radical Publishing comic book miniseries created by Bousman.

The sales trailer for the new film from Darren Lynn Bousman (Saw II, III, IV; Repo! The Genetic Opera; The Devil's Carnival) recently found its way online in a video for Full Sail University's How to Get Noticed in Hollywood Today program and you can dig it right now!
It should be Explicitly noted that this is just a proof on concept trailer and it contains no footage from the actual film itself. You can find it at the 32 minute mark of the video, but we recommend, especially if you're a new filmmaker, that you watch the whole chat with Bousman as it's as interesting as they come. The man knows his shit! Check it out!

Horror and the jovial, spontaneous realm of musicals don't collide often on the screen, but when they do, the outcome yields mostly positive and extreme reactions. The Rocky Horror Picture Show became a cult classic, Buffy the Vampire Slayer's "Once More With Feeling" transcended expectations and is considered one of the best episodes to come out of that series, and, more recent efforts like Repo! The Genetic Opera and The Devil's Carnival have curiously carved out a significant Rocky Horror-like fanbase. Whatever your personal thoughts are on those offerings, you have to commend them for fully embracing the radical, unlikely merging of genres. They find their voice, their message and they really just go for it. Stage Fright similarly goes for it enthusiastically and with bloody reverence for the slasher genre. That's right, this is a slasher musical that, in equal measures, goes for the laughs and goes for the throat.

With filming of Blanc/Biehn Productions' remake of Hidden in the Woods set to begin July 1st in and around Houston, Texas, all the major players are lining up, and handling effects will be Vincent Guastini's V.G.P. Effects & Design Studio.
Hidden in the Woods star Michael Biehn met Guastini when they briefly worked together on Sushi Girl (in which Hitw co-star Andy Mackenzie also appeared), and Biehn was so impressed with V.G.P.'s work, the producers asked Guastini to come on board and supervise with Evelyn Belmar and Vanessa Cartier. Some of Guastini's previous credits include Silent Night, ColdWater, The Devil's Carnival, Under the Bed, and Hansel & Gretel Get Baked, just to name a few.

There are 26 letters in the English alphabet, but there are going to be two movies about "The ABCs of Death." A sequel to the creepy anthology is on the way, and filmmakers are promising a leaner and meaner set of horrors. You remember how this works: each director creates a short based on a theme related to a letter of the alphabet, and of course, death. Alex de la Iglesia ("The Last Circus"), Rodney Ascher ("Room 237"), and Academy Award-nominated animator Bill Plympton have already signed on to direct, plus there will be another competition to find the 26th filmmaker. The sequel is planned for a 2014 release, so you have plenty of time to break out your camera and get to work.

A year has passed, and another Texas Frightmare Weekend has come and gone! Last year Tfw expanded dramatically with a much larger location to become the Southwest's premier horror con. This year they proved that isn't going to change anytime soon.
This con is so hot that guests have begun just showing up without an invite. Veteran character actor Glenn Morshower ("Millennium", The Crazies 2010) popped up on Friday and was set up in the lobby until Saturday, when a table was located for him in the main room. He was swamped all weekend so it's a good thing he came!
The focus of the con (which ran May 3rd-5th) was originally "The Walking Dead," but with a few cancellations (almost all replaced with other guests, some from "Twd"), the star of the Weekend became Danny "Machete" Trejo, who was mobbed every time he was at his table. The presence...

A few weeks ago we excitedly mentioned the first two roles that the Dexter team was looking to fill. Well, those roles have been filled.
In the role of Dr. Evelyn Vogel, a "formidable and whip-smart neuro-psychiatrist in her late 50s who assists the law in profiling criminals," especially "young psychopaths," producers have hired Charlotte Rampling. The actress is probably best known for her role in the controversial Nazi drama The Night Porter. Other credits include Swimming Pool, Orca, and Melancholia.
The other role, that of Jacob Elroy, a "handsome and straightforward former cop who now owns his own private eye business," has been filled by Sean Patrick Flanery. Genre fans probably remember him from Saw 3D and The Devil's Carnival.
No word yet on whether a deal has been reached to have Yvonne Strahovski return in her role of Hannah, the serial poisoner whom Dexter fell in love with.
