Great show, weakest episode
jaluliva13 October 2022
I'm a fan of this show and have thoroughly enjoyed it. There were always going to be weaker episodes and this was likely to be one of the them, however it was most hampered by a third of it featuring a woman explaining to us what "bromances" are and how and why they exist and and trying to explain platonic relationships between men.

They had plenty of footage of Rob and Ryan and male Wrexham fans, fathers and sons, and many of them discussing their father-son relationships, including the aforementioned (human) stars of this show. I think these clips were more than enough for the topic of this episode, they could easily have done a better job in their own right discussing it and helping the viewer understand and see the emotion involved. And there was some good emotion to be seen in the clips of them together, and in seeing all of them discuss it and the emotion you could often hear in their voices and see in their eyes.

That is all the episode needed to be after choosing the topic, instead it is constantly jarringly interrupted by a woman womansplaining (yea I know sorry for the term but it seems most appropriate) platonic relationships between males. It ruined the flow of the episode and comes across rather patronizing. I think it is understandable that this should be the shortest episode of the season.

Just to be clear, I don't think it would be any more appropriate to have a man explaining relationships between females, or what it is like to be pregnant or give birth, particularly when it harms the flow and emotion that can otherwise be seen in the episode as was the case here.

Very underrated episode
idrincon1 November 2022
It was a different, strange and out of sequence episode. But if you watch it with critical eyes, it's probably one of the best of the series.

It started just by telling as a joke the "relationship" between Rob and Ryan but halfway through the episode it turned into a wonderful storytelling about the relationship that sports creates between fathers and sons.

It may be the reason why these two started this project after all.

It became real for me because I remembered my own relationship with sports and my dad, and also the relationship I developed with my own daughter through sports.

Watch it a couple of times and you will understand.

Excellent change in pace

Really great and important episode that should resonate with any sport loving male.

Starts by addressing Rob and Ryan's 'bromance' or 'friendship' as we learn is the word for the female equivalent. The episode smartly grows and draws parallels to most males experience.

The expert offers an important insight into what is happening and why... Yes she is female, I don't understand why this is such an issue for many people,. Especially considering the topic of this episode.

Ultimately we see how useful sport can be for men to great and sustain relationships, a wonderful look inwards that I would recommend to all.

The Woman-splaning of Men's Friendship
mrvollkommer14 October 2022
Ouch, this was brutal. After the high drama of "Hello Wembley" we get a dreadful episode of bro-mance. Even my wife could not stand the "expert" while she "woman-sprained" a friendship. Ryan and Rob are friends...but also performers. They dial everything up to eleven, even their friendship for the camera. The episode is disjointed and continues down a path of the fourth-wave of feminism where women know more about men then men do. Imagine, the roles being reversed, it would not even make the final cut. Hopefully, fingers crossed, there is a season 2, because if that was the precursor to the end it is truly unfortunate.

Cringy and Boring
ianmahaffey20 October 2022
Couldn't really stand hearing the "expert" give her opinion on male friendships. Had to start skipping through her commentary to get through the episode. The show's been fantastic so far, and in this episode I enjoyed hearing from the fans, but that's really it.

I've grown to like Ryan and Rob through this series but the fact is that even when they're capturing "candid" moments there's always an element of staging, except for when they're watching matches. That, combined with the opinions given about male relationships make it a cringe-inducing episode.

Maybe they could have had another episode about another match, or made it about Ryan and Rob but without attempting commentary about the perception of platonic male relationships in today's society.

4th wave eyeroll
gilesphilipcollings20 December 2022
This is a great show. I enjoyed every episode apart from this one.

What this episode could have been was about Ryan and Rob hanging out, bonding and also the footage of the fans talking about the importance of the family/friends dynamics that come from sport. The parts of that were in the episode were fine, it would have also been great if they'd included how players bond through team sport (a great message to youth)... But the "expert" offering social commentary just ruined the flow of the episode and felt like unnecessary 4th wave feminism fluff obscuring what could have been a powerful message.

Femsplain Deluxe
Zevve15 October 2022
Not at all the episode I envisioned. Keeping in mind that the guys would come up with a fun jokey gimmick in showcasing their friendship, it was just too painful watching this so-called expert femsplaining men to an audience presumably comprised mostly of men. And it was such a hackneyed job as well, tequila armchair BS that "girls" talk about at a sorority or something. The nonsense about sports and guys and all of that stuff, it's just a bunch of rehashed cliches from the 80s. Not as contrived and obvious as a bechdel test-passing scene, but ...if she was shooting for wry or ironic humour, she really failed. Good try guys, but I couldn't muster the good sport in me to laugh it off.

They should have cut this one
brettjanderson13 October 2022
It just doesn't fit after the previous episode.. It's self-serving and annoying. I love both Rob and Ryan, but this is just an episode of them hanging out, interspersed with clips of them on late night shows and some female author explaining her thoughts on male friendship. There's enough drama in the course of a football season that wasting an episode on this seems entirely unnecessary.

These teams play at least 44 matches per season and they showed 10-15... If I were an actual, hardcore Wrexham fan, this episode would come off as insulting, pointless, and self-gratifying. The only thing it has to do with Wrexham is that they both own it and they mention it a few times. Easily the weakest episode of the season. The Welcome to Wales episode wasn't great, but it was still considerably better than this.

Worst episode recommend skipping it
ronanmoyglare26 April 2023
The woman I can't remember her name ruins it she has unnecessary commentary. She over analyses a simple friendship it was honestly hard to watch when she was on screen. The parts with Rob and Ryan are quite good but it's interrupted with her overanalyse. In my opinion it's the only bad episode. The parts where they leave out the club and get to 'American' is the worst part. It's a pity that this episode is right before the season finale because it really slows down the moms. It was hard to watch. There was no conflict, tension and minimal comedy. They tried something different and it didn't work. Looking at the ratings I'm pretty sure it's consensus that this was the worst.
