- It tells the story of Sarah, a children's book author who returns to her hometown where she reconnects with her family and her teenage crush. She soon discovers that a family legend might actually be true.
- There's an old family legend that if someone receives a kismet cookie and sleeps with it under their pillow, then they will dream of their true love. As a teenager, Sarah (Sarah Ramos) did this. When her dream showed Travis (Carlos Marks) was her true love, she went to him to tell him. Unfortunately, Travis was marrying someone else. Sarah ran away to become a writer. Now she's returned to her hometown, and discovered Travis is the father of the child who won her writing contest.
- Sarah Grace (Sarah Ramos) is a notable author heading to New Britain, Maine, as part of a book signing contest. Sarah is upset because it is her hometown and things ended badly when she left. Through a flashback, we see young Sarah with crazy hair. She is in love with the neighbor boy named Travis (Carlos Ramos). Sarah helps her Grandmother (Marilu Henner) make Kismet cookies (Where you cook with your heart, not your eyes). When the cookies are ready, you put one under your pillow, and it helps you find love or something. Sarah can't have one either because her Grandmother wants her to experience crushes. Sarah sneaks one under her pillow, and she tells Travis that he is her one true love, and when she runs to tell him he is getting married. Sarah cries and tears up the recipe. In the present day, Sarah tells her agent that she will go back, but she hasn't seen or heard from Travis since. Once she is home, it doesn't take long to run into Travis dressed as Santa and to meet his daughter. They quickly spend time together doing Christmas things, and Sarah promises to donate books for a town book drive. Sarah also spends time with her Grandma and her friends, who all own shops in town. A scavenger hunt happens, and the prize is fudge. People around the town ask Sarah to make Kismet cookies again because they worked so well. Sarah doesn't have the heart to tell them that she destroyed the recipe. Even though the Kismet cookies are out of play, they seem to be bringing Sarah and Travis together. They play Christmas Trivia, shop for presents, and chop down a Christmas tree. Sarah makes a wish on a wall, and it opens up to show the taped-up Kismit cookie recipe. Sarah hands them out to people in the town, and they are so thankful. Benny, Sarah's agent, comes to town and is thrilled with the new book draft. He is excited to meet Travis and Grandma Mia, and also try a Kismet cookie. Speaking of Grandma Mia, she is selling the house because she is going to teach English abroad. Sarah can't bear the thought of her Grandma selling her house and considers buying the house to stay in the town that inspires her and to be with Travis, obviously. The Kismet cookies work their magic and confirm that Travis and Sarah are meant to be together. They dream of one another and know what to do. They kiss, and that's the end.
