As the big broadcast networks start to air their summer slate, it’s worth taking a look back on this last year of television. Every network likes to manipulate the math so they can claim they’re the best, especially during upfronts week. But what happens when you level the playing field?
Using the end-of-season ratings for each eligible show, TheWrap determined which network truly won primetime during the 2022-2023 season. A couple of notes on methodology: These numbers only took into account live-plus-same day viewing numbers for series that aired between 8 p.m. and 11 p.m. and don’t include ratings from sporting events or local programming. They also only look at a very limited timeframe, beginning with the first network premiere of the season and ending with the last episode of a major primetime show

The 2007-08 writers strike is widely credited with helping to ramp up the presence of unscripted television on broadcast and cable.
This year’s labor action, however, is not expected to have the same positive impact that the last writers strike did, and a confluence of events could mean that many of the top non-scripted shows are also hit.
“It’s not going to be a carefree, hot girl, reality summer,” one producer told Deadline.
Some of the popular game shows are already WGA productions. Jeopardy!, for instance, is written by WGA writers. While the long-running daytime prepares its questions in advance of a season, the worry is that a long strike would hit these types of shows, not to mention talent, such as hosts like Mayim Bialik, could want to show solidarity with the writers.

The latest Netflix true-crime docuseries “Murdaugh Murders: A Southern Scandal” has tapped into America’s obsession with the case of disgraced South Carolina attorney Alex Murdaugh. Its new three-part series climbed to the top of the streaming charts in the latest Wrap Report, which highlights television viewership trends collected from Samba TV’s panel of more than 3 million households drawn from over 25 million connected TVs.
Whether by sheer luck or incredible programming wiles, the docuseries was timed perfectly to the five-week trial of one of the most prominent families in the South that has dominated headlines and been a fixture on news networks for months. The Netflix series drove even more interest in the June 2021 killings of Murdaugh’s wife Maggie and son Paul as it dropped on Feb. 22, the beginning of the week-long period covered by this report.

Has Alert made a case for a renewal on Fox?
If the numbers for the Alert Season 1 finale are any indication, probably not.
The series averaged 2.3 million viewers and a 0.2 rating across two hours on Monday night.

Heading into Monday’s season finale of “America’s Got Talent: All-Stars,” you would have been gravely mistaken if you thought Kodi Lee had this thing in the bag. In fact, the “AGT” superfans who voted for the winner didn’t even rank the fan-favorite singer, who was born blind and autistic, in their Top 5. When host Terry Crews announced the results during the February 27 finale, it was as if the air was let out of the room. The audience gasped in shock while judges Simon Cowell, Heidi Klum and Howie Mandel kindly stood up and applauded his exit.

Fourteen years ago during the eighth season of Fox’s “American Idol,” Simon Cowell was one of the people who judged aspiring singer Adam Lambert on a weekly basis. Even though Simon critiqued Adam early on for being too theatrical, Simon soon became one of his biggest supporters. “Over the entire season, you’ve been one of the best, most original contestants we’ve ever had on the show,” the British judge declared during that show’s 2009 finale. “The hope and whole idea of a show like this is to find a worldwide star, and I truly believe we’ve found that in you.”

Are you as surprised as we are that aerialist Aidan Bryant was chosen as the first “America’s Got Talent: All-Stars” winner on Monday night. When we surveyed viewers before the finale on Feb. 27, they overwhelmingly wanted Kodi Lee to win the first season of this “AGT” spin-off. This inspirational singer, who won the season 14 title, had wowed everyone with his soaring performance of “Biblical” on the final preliminary show.
Lee was one of the four previous “America’s Got Talent” champs to compete on this all-star edition of the NBC programming staple. Among the others was magician Dustin Tavella, who bested Bryant last season on “AGT.” They both competed in the second preliminary round episode, which aired last month.

“America’s Got Talent: All-Stars” concluded Monday night with the “Finale Results” that determined which of the season’s 60 all-star acts from across global AGT franchises became “All-Stars Champion.” Last week, the 11 finalists performed for the final time, hoping to be selected by the superfans as the winner. Tonight, they returned to the stage to hear the results and to perform in a finale celebration alongside each other and a star-studded lineup of guests.
In this new spin-off series, former “Got Talent” contestants competed in a six-week audition showdown to determine which acts would advance this final stage of the competition. Five of the acts advanced as Golden Buzzer picks from the judges and the other six were chosen by a select group of superfans from across the country. The 11 finalist acts were Aidan Bryant, Aidan McCann, Ana-Maria Mărgean, Avery Dixon, Bello Sisters, Detroit Youth Choir, Kodi Lee, Light Balance Kids,...

If you want to hand a mic to someone and ask them any old question, ranging from the silliest to the most sincere, America’s Got Talent‘s host Terry Crews is your man. That’s what TV Insider did for our latest Just Asking segment and, of course, it was a good time to grill Crews about the season finale of the franchise’s spinoff America’s Got Talent: All Stars, airing Monday, February 27. “This is the countdown from 60 of the top acts in the whole 17 years America’s Got Talent has been happening, and all the worldwide versions of Got Talent, and it all comes down to this,” the Brooklyn Nine-Nine alum points out. Also during our chat, we also ask Crews which cast member cries the easiest on the show (no real surprise who it is…watch the video above to find out). And as for who is the biggest diva on the show,...

Simon Cowell‘s got a very specific reason for why he’d be on board for another run of “The X Factor”, and if Britney Spears would rejoin him in that venture, even better.
When Et’s Will Marfuggi spoke to Cowell in November at the “America’s Got Talent: All-Stars” finale red carpet event in Los Angeles, the famed TV personality explained why singing competitions like “AGT”, “The X Factor” and “American Idol” are absolutely necessary, even in a digital age where anyone can find stardom on platforms like YouTube.
In short, there’s a ton of undiscovered talent out there, and therein lies the purpose of the singing competitions and the driving point behind Cowell returning to “The X Factor”, which is reportedly in talks about a revival on NBC.

A week after Taye Diggs’ surprise exit from “All American,” the CW sports drama’s ratings were up 35% over last week for Monday’s follow-up episode, according to official live + same day Nielsen data.
As viewers tuned in to witness the grim aftermath of the death of father figure and coach Billy Baker, “All American” drew in 671,000 total viewers — up 21.3% from last week’s 553,000 total viewers — and scored 0.23 ratings score in the key demo, marking a 35.3% increase from last week’s 0.17 rating score.
The widespread buzz from Diggs’ departure also boosted its spinoff series, “All American: Homecoming,” which received 444,000 total viewers — up 12% from last week’s total viewership of 396,000 — and a 0.14 ratings score — up 27% from the last week’s 0.11 ratings score.

With several shows in repeat mode, there wasn't much on the broadcast networks on Monday.
The CW's All American said goodbye to Taye Diggs as Billy (but is it forever?!) with season highs.
All American Season 5 Episode 12 soared to 690,000 viewers and a 0.2 rating.
It was a big episode of the football-themed drama.
All American: Homecoming followed with 440,000 viewers and a 0.1 rating.
Over on ABC, The Bachelor was down to 2.7 million viewers and a 0.5 rating.
Unfortunately, the series has not reached the highs of previous seasons.
The buzz is also pretty much non-existent for this search for love headlined by Zach Shallcross.
An encore of The Company You Keep did 1.4 million viewers and a 0.2 rating out of The Bachelor.
The new drama had a sluggish debut on Sunday out of American Idol.
On NBC, America's Got Talent: All-Stars picked up some steam with 4.9 million viewers and a 0.5 rating.
An encore of Magnum Pi.

“America’s Got Talent: All-Stars” aired the first part of its finale Monday night with 11 acts performing for the big win. The new spin-off series features former “Got Talent” contestants from America and beyond, competing in a seven-week showdown to determine which ultimate all-star will claim the title of “Got Talent World Champion.” Longtime series judges Howie Mandel, Simon Cowell and Heidi Klum return to the judges’ panel with Terry Crews on stage for hosting duties.
Below are my Top 11 rankings for the Monday, February 20th episode of “AGT: All-Stars.”

Season 1 Finale Performances ranked:
11. Mike E. Winfield: Comedians have historically never claimed the prize on AGT, which has angered some viewers. Those who are bitter that a comic has yet to win might want to take a drink next week because my gut instinct is that history will repeat itself.

During Monday’s “Finale Performances” episode of “America’s Got Talent: All-Stars,” Kodi Lee demonstrated why he is the fans’ choice to win the reality TV show. The inspirational singer, who was born blind and autistic, belted out a pitch-perfect rendition of David Bowie‘s “Heroes” that had the judges up on their feet (watch above). Howie Mandel called him a “hero every day,” Heidi Klum dubbed him the “ultimate all-star,” and Simon Cowell raved that he’s “so cool and so brilliant.”
Last week, Gold Derby conducted a poll asking viewers to name which of the 11 finalists they’re rooting for to win, and a whopping 40% of respondents voted for Kodi. Earlier this week, Gold Derby conducted a poll asking viewers of “America’s Got Talent: All-Stars” to name which of the 11 finalists they’re rooting for to win, and the results are not even close. In fact, an overwhelming 44 of respondents voted for Kodi Lee, the inspirational singer who was born blind and autistic, as their favorite. He recently sang “Biblical” on the big stage (watch above), and then told the “AGT” superfans, “Help me change the world.” Now it seems like a realistic possibility the fans will come through for him.

“America’s Got Talent: All-Stars” continued Monday, February 6 with the sixth and final set of 10 performances from some of the most beloved acts in “Got Talent” history. In previous installments, two acts advanced to The Finals per episode, but this week there was only one spot up for grabs. That decision came down to the superfans who chose singer Kodi Lee as the 11th all-star finalist.
Kodi’s selection meant that the nine other performers were eliminated from the competition. In a recent poll, we asked “Who was wrongfully eliminated on February 6?” and though “AGT” fans were split between two top choices, spoken word poet Brandon Leake came out on top as the artist most deserving of a spot in The Finals with 26 of the vote. Just behind him was comedian Josh Blue with 25 and singer Daneliya Tuleshova next with 18.

One of the most popular “America’s Got Talent” winners of all time, Kodi Lee, now has a chance of taking home a second trophy, and it’s all thanks to the superfans. Monday night on “America’s Got Talent: All-Stars,” the singing superstar (who was born blind and autistic), took the stage and belted out the song “Biblical.” After his performance, he got a chance to speak directly to the superfans and he told them, “Help me change the world.” Well, that’s exactly what they did.

America’s Got Talent: All-Stars will continue to impress in its upcoming sixth episode as Season 14 winner of America’s Got Talent, Kodi Lee, takes center stage once again for a showstopping performance and we have your exclusive first look. The former champ is singing Calum Scott’s song “Biblical,” and it appears that Lee is wowing judges Simon Cowell, Heidi Klum, and Howie Mandel as they seem to be rendered speechless from their panelist table across the stage amongst the audience. As fans will remember, 26-year-old Lee is legally blind and is on the autism spectrum, making his approach to performances a little different than most singers, and more stunning than many because of it. On January 30, “America’s Got Talent: All-Stars” continued with the fifth installment of first round episodes featuring performances from 10 fan favorite acts. In this penultimate episode in the preliminary round, judges Simon Cowell, Heidi Klum and Howie Mandel joined with Terry Crews to hand out the special Group Golden Buzzer to the one act they all agreed to be most deserving of a spot in The Finals. Following a rendition of “The Sound of Silence” that Simon called the best vocal performance of the series, Tom Ball was their consensus choice. Watch the full performance in the video above.
Tom first competed on season 15 of “Britain’s Got Talent” where he finished in third place. He lost in The Finals to comedian Axel Blake who he was set to go head-to-head against again on this episode of “All-Stars.” To come back this time around, Tom had his second chance to show his...

Comic duo Yumbo Dump first endeared themselves to American audiences during “America’s Got Talent” Season 13. They made it all the way to the quarter-finals, but were eliminated shortly after Heidi Klum gave them a red X on live television. All these years later, the Japanese comedians returned to the stage on “America’s Got Talent: All-Stars” where they finally managed to get the German-American judge to admit she was wrong.
After being eliminated in 2018, the two guys — whose names are reportedly Go Kashu (“Yumbo”) and Daisuke Fujiwara (“Dump”) — vowed never to stop performing. “After ‘America’s Got Talent,’ we performed all over the world,” they told the camera prior to coming out on stage. “But we’ve never won. So this time we have to step it up. We have to make Heidi happy.”

During Week 5 of “America’s Got Talent: All-Stars,” the superfan voters made their choice for who they want to see in the finale, and it was good news for child ventriloquist Ana-Maria Margean. The talented tyke initially rose to fame when she won “Romania’s Got Talent” 2021, but now she’s taken her puppet skills to the U.S.A. where she’s hoping to prevail again. The only other act from this week that advanced to the finale was Tom Ball, a singer from “Britain’s Got Talent” 2022 who earned the group Golden Buzzer.
Over the years, ventriloquists have found wild success on the American version of Simon Cowell‘s worldwide talent search. Terry Fator (Season 2 winner) is perhaps the most well-known, thanks to his eye-popping 100 million contract on the Las Vegas Strip. He was followed in later years by Paul Zerdin (Season 10 winner) and Darci Lynne Farmer (Season 12 winner). Ironically,...

“America’s Got Talent: All-Stars” continued Monday, January 23 with the fourth set of 10 performances from some of the most beloved acts in “Got Talent” history. Two more acts advanced to The Finals based on those initial performances: Aidan McCann was Heidi Klum‘s Golden Buzzer recipient and Power Duo was voted through by a secret group of superfans. They join Mike E. Winfield and Avery Dixon from the January 16 installment, Detroit Youth Choir and Aidan Bryant from the January 9 episode, and Light Balance Kids and Bello Sisters from the January 2 premiere. Monday’s results left eight all-star acts on the cutting room floor without a chance to be named “Got Talent World Champion.”
