Alicia Allain, a producer and actress who started in the business as a hair stylist, has died according to a social media post by her husband, John Schneider. She was 53.
“This is a time of unimaginable sorrow for me,” former Dukes of Hazzard star Schneider wrote after his wife’s passing. “Grief is much too small a word. I’ve heard it said that ‘with great love comes great sorrow.’ I had no idea what that meant until now. Alicia was the fuel that ran my biggest dreams. The inspiration behind every creative thought. The very fabric of my soul. The glue that held me together. I miss her more than any words could possibly describe.”

Exclusive: Usg Audio, the podcast division of Universal Studio Group, is launching its latest audio series.
The company has teamed up with Yohance Lacour, a formerly incarcerated writer, on You Didn’t See Nothin, a seven-part series that investigates the 1997 race-related attack on Lenard Clark.
In 1997, Clark was beaten into a coma by a gang of older white teens simply for being Black in a white neighborhood. The media quickly turned towards stories of reconciliation and racial healing, with cooperation by Black leaders and the attacker’s family. At the time of the attack, Lacour was in his early 20s, writing plays, selling weed, and living at his dad’s house on the South Side of Chicago. Unable to stand by as the media transformed the hate crime into a fairy tale of racial reconciliation, Lacour began working with a local neighborhood newspaper to investigate the vicious hate crime.

If you’re a long-time reader of Nerdly you’ll know we’re huge fans of director James Cullen Bressack, so much so that back in 2015 we [unsuccessfully] tried to get his controversial film Hate Crime released on VOD in the UK – I say unsuccessfully as it was banned by the BBFC and we eventually ended up releasing his follow-up To Jennifer instead. Since then Bressack has ventured away from the horror genre, mixing things up with action movies starring actors like Steven Seagal and Bruce Willis.
Speaking of Willis, Fortress sees the actor back working with Bressack (after Survive the Game) as well as two of his co-stars from his previous movies, actors Chad Michael...

I was lucky enough to watch a debut screening of Trauma at the inaugural Soho Horror Film festival, where the crowd were already hyped for this harrowing, messed up piece, and it did not disappoint. Fair comparisons can be made to the likes of A Serbian Film, Martyrs and Hate Crime, relentlessly uncomfortable and chilling in its execution.
When a party of four female friends head to a cabin in rural Chile, stumbling along the hostile locals along the way, they soon learn that their modern, independent ways are not welcome. After settling into their home for the weekend, they are set upon by a maniac Father and Son duo, and subjected to a life changing evening, forever scarring them. *full disclosure: an online screener of this film was provided by October Coast PR. **there are spoilers here. Director: James Cullen Bressack. Writers: James Cullen Bressack and Taryn Hillin. Cast: Ciara Hanna, Emily O'Brien and Jackie Moore. Pernicious is an indie horror feature from director James Cullen Bressack (Hate Crime). The film's title is synonymous with something that is harmful. And, the film follows several travellers in Thailand and the ghosts they meet. Based in supernatural superstition, Pernicious offers unpolished sound design, including Adr. The film also lifts much of its scares from Asian films of the past, including Ringu (1998) and Ju-on (2002). Though, the term scares is a misnomer as many of the potential horror elements are laughable. Overall, Pernicious is a cliche filled and disappointing indie horror outing. The film begins and stays with a trio of travellers. Alex (Ciarra Hanna) and Rachel (Jackie Moore) are sisters, while Julia (Emily O'Brien) is.

I had the privilege recently to talk with the very talented director James Cullen Bressack. He’s becoming the Cameron Crowe of Horror directors by being a wunderkind and showing mind blowing talent as a writer and director even before he could buy his own beer. I was grateful to get some insight from him, find out what inspired him, and see what’s next. Special thanks to actor/producer/writer Zack Ward for joining in on the interview.
Ks: I know that you get this a lot, but you are a really young guy. You seem so close to the golden age of VHS, with a love for such classics as “Basket Case” and the William Lustig films, yet you are a generation removed. How did you discover them?
Jcb: I got really into watching VHS stuff. My Dad had “Hellraiser” on VHS.

Undeterred by the recent BBFC ban of our first planned release Hate Crime, we’ve teamed up with our good friends at TheHorrorShow.TV to release another film by writer-director James Cullen Bressack: To Jennifer - the first film shot on an iPhone 5 (pre-dating the forthcoming Hooked Up by a number of months), To Jennifer stars Jessica Cameron, Chuck Pappas, Jody Barton and Bressack himself, and tells a story of love gone wrong shot in a cinema verité, as-it-happened format.
Joey suspects his girlfriend of two years, Jennifer, is cheating on him. He is so convinced that he enlists the help of his cousin Steven to create a video diary of his attempt to catch her in the act as well as to document the heartbreak she is putting him through. In an attempt to make her feel guilty, he intends to give this tape to her after catching her in the act.

By now many horror fans will know that Hate Crime, the second feature from director James Cullen Bressack (pictured above) was, last week, refused classification by the BBFC – which, thanks to the increased powers of the Atvod, effectively bans the film from being released on any home formats, be it Blu-ray, DVD or VOD, here in the UK. That’s despite the film screening at Manchester’s Grimmfest in 2012, and it being freely available on DVD and on-demand across the Us (directly from Bressack’s production company website in fact).
In the past week there has been many a post from sites across the web, from folks like Haddonfield Horror and Strange Things Are Happening, not only reporting on the ban but also decrying the BBFC’s actions. However there are some – like Simon Thompson at Huffington Post – who, without even seeing the film and only judging it from the BBFC’s report,...

James Cullen Bressack’s second feature was set to be the first release in a new joint VoD venture between Nerdly and TheHorrorShow.TV.

James Cullen Bressack’s second feature has already been released in the Us and was set to be the first release under the new Nerdly Presents banner, a joint venture between Nerdly.co.uk and TheHorrorShow.TV. The BBFC’s official statement read: “It is the Board’s carefully considered conclusion that the unremitting manner in which Hate Crime focuses on physical and sexual abuse, aggravated by racist invective, means that to issue a classification too this work, even if confined to adults, would be inconsistent with the Board’s Guidelines, would risk potential harm, and would be...

From the team behind last year’s “so-bad-it’s-good” cult hit Sharknado, comes another fishy B-Movie and classic in-the-making Blood Lake: Attack of the Killer Lampreys, airing exclusively on Animal Planet on Wednesday 4th June at 9pm, starring Shannen Doherty (Beverley Hills 90210, Charmed) and the legendary Christopher Lloyd (‘Doc’ in the Back to the Future trilogy) as part of the channel’s Monster Week.
Directed by friend of Nerdly, James Cullen Bressack (Hate Crime, 13/13/13) Blood Lake: Attack of the Killer Lampreys sees the cast battle lampreys – eel-like fish with huge teeth and funnel-shaped mouths – after they slide their way into the city’s sewer system and start terrorizing the residents of a small Michigan town. With their giant-toothed, funnel-like mouths attacking all those in their path, the town’s residents quickly learn that a casual dip in the pool, fishing trip or routine trip to the toilet can turn deadly...

James Cullen Bressack has officially signed on to direct the psychological horror thriller Squeal: Blood Harvest, and the prolific young indie filmmaker promises to "push the envelope to a place it hasn’t been yet."
Bressack is known for his work on such films as 13/13/13, Hate Crime, and Blood Lake. Bill Oberst, Jr. (Abraham Lincoln vs. Zombies, Children of Sorrow), is set to play the lead role of Uncle Ollie.

Oh and in case you're wondering, the word pernicious is essentially the same as insidious, meaning something that is fatal, wicked and/or just plain evil.

Looking to get in on the Sharknado phenomenon, Animal Planet has set its own horror film from The Asylum – the same people behind that film, called Blood Lake: Attack of the Killer Lampreys, set to premiere in the Us on Memorial Day weekend.
“There is absolutely nowhere to run, and no one is safe.”
Starring Shannen Doherty (Beverly Hills 90210), Christopher Lloyd (Back to the Future) and Jason Brooks (Days of Our Lives), Blood Lake: Attack of the Killer Lampreys is directed by James Cullen Bressack (Hate Crime, Pernicious) and sees the cast battle lampreys – eel-like fish with huge teeth and funnel-shaped mouths – after they slide their way into the city’s sewer system and start terrorizing the residents of a small Michigan town.
Brooks plays Michael, a fish and wildlife expert who moves to the town with his wife, Cate (Doherty), after being summoned by the town mayor, Akerman (Lloyd...

We return with another edition of the Indie Spotlight, highlighting recent independent horror news sent our way. Today’s feature includes details on a Wes Craven art exhibition, the first sighting of Megafoot, a 100 zombie films graphical print, first photos from Australian Horror film, Barrow, an interview with actor, writer, and filmmaker Sean Stone, and much more:

This past summer the Foywonder shared the news that The Asylum was bringing us 13/13/13, and since it's now available on Blu-ray/DVD, we thought we'd show you the flick's artwork and trailer.
From award-winning writer/director James Cullen Bressack (Hate Crime, To Jennifer) and The Asylum, the studio behind the social media juggernaut Sharknado, comes 13/13/13, starring Trae Ireland, Erin Coker, and Jody Barton. The film is produced by David Michael Latt, David Rimawi, and Paul Bales.
Special features include a blooper reel and making-of featurette.
In a world where everyone is completely insane and violent, can one seemingly sane man survive? Or in a world where everyone is crazy, is the only sane person the craziest of all?
Synopsis:
For millennia, calendars have added an extra day every four years. In doing so, they violated the ancient Mayan calendar. Now we are in the 13th month of the 13th year of the new millennium,...

What happens when you team one of America’s best indie horror filmmakers (directing from his own script) with one of America’s biggest mockbuster makers, The Asylum? Well, you get 13/13/13.
Seemingly inspired by Darren Lynn Bousman’s 11-11-11, The Asylum have, since 2011, been releasing thematically similar horror flicks for the past few years. In 2011 we had 11/11/11, and last year they released 12/12/12 and this year we get 13/13/13 (the title will make sense once you’ve seen the film). The Asylum’s previous “demonic number” flicks told of children, anti-christs reborn on earth, and how they were set to bring about the apocalypse. Well now The Asylum have taken it a step further with this flick – the apocalypse is well and truly under way in this ends of days tale…...

Just in time for Halloween, The Asylum, the studio behind this summer’s social media juggernaut Sharknado, has followed that hit with the final installment of their ‘11/11/11’ horror franchise, called ‘13/13/13.’
‘13/13/13’ is available now on DVD, Blu-ray, and on demand. Written and directed by James Cullen Bressack (Theater Of The Deranged, Hate Crime), the film stars Trae Ireland, Erin Coker, Jody Barton, and Calico Cooper. Erin Coker returns from ‘11/11/11,’ though she does not reprise her role.
In the tradition of horror classics The Hills Have Eyes and The Crazies, ’13/13/13’ blends a demonic possession tale with the end of society as we know it. Its premise is simple and scary: calendars have added an extra day every four years for millennia. In doing so, they violated the ancient Mayan calendar. Now we are in the 13th month of the 13th year of the new millennium, and the few who survive will battle a world of demons.

Yes, Northern England’s premier horror film festival, Grimmfest, is back for 2013, this time taking place at three venues across the north – including two in Manchester – allowing for a much bigger programme for this year. After the launch on October 2nd at Stockport Plaza, Grimmfest 2013 will continue from October 3rd – 6th, at the Dancehouse Theatre, And the Lass O’Gowrie, Manchester. There’s a number of films scheduled this year that (as of yet) haven’t played any other UK film festivals, so there’s bound to be something showing that you haven’t seen, or maybe might not, see again!
One of my good friends James Cullen Bressack is back this year with another of his films, the excellent and innovative To Jennifer, after making a huge splash last year with the controversial Hate Crime. Other highlights, for me, include Thanatamorphose, On Air, Home Sweet Home and The Butterfly Room.

Pardon my language but… Fuck me! I’ve been a fan of James Cullen Bressack’s work for some time now, ever since that fateful day he sent me an email asking me if I’d like to review his first full-length feature My Pure Joy. Bressack followed that hard-hitting flick with a segment in the first Theatre of the Deranged anthology and the notorious (and totally amazing), Hate Crime. Now in all honesty I though he couldn’t top Hate Crime. After all that film was, at least for me, a perfect mix of story and style – Bressack’s directorial sensibilities fit perfectly with the content and you could tell that everyone involved wanted to make the best movie they could, even given the touchy subject matter.

In conjunction with Psykik Junky Pictures releasing the first official trailer for its new found footage film To Jennifer, filmed entirely on the iPhone 5, the company announced the flick will be available later this year in its entirety as a stand-alone app in the iTunes App Store.
You'll be able to download To Jennifer directly to your mobile device. The app will include not only the film but also some special features, much like a DVD would. A price point has not yet been set, but writer/director James Cullen Bressack promises to keep the cost low. A DVD release is also in the works for the film in the future.
"This film was made specifically for the iPhone," states Bressack. "I am fortunate to have worked with so many amazing people on this project, and I think this is a new and unique way to watch and distribute a film.
You'll be able to download To Jennifer directly to your mobile device. The app will include not only the film but also some special features, much like a DVD would. Nick Palumbo’s sadistic slasher Murder-Set-Pieces created a lot of controversy when it was released in 2004 with a Nc-17 rating. Some considered the movie too gory and sexually violent and it was banned outright in the UK. We haven’t heard much from Palumbo since then, but Deadline reports that he is planning his return with two movies, “psychological horror” film Muse and “indie neo-noir thriller” Last Gas Station.
“ ... Muse introduces newcomer Samantha Mion as an actress descending into homicidal madness in Los Angeles. Patrick Scott Lewis (Zodiac) co-stars as a fellow actor. Palumbo wrote and will direct the pic, producing with David Palumbo and James Cullen Bressack (Hate Crime) for the trio’s Fright Flix banner,” Deadline said.
Palumbo is reportedly planning to cut Muse for an R rating, but knowing the director’s background and style there’s no doubt the movie will be heavy on the blood-soaked scenes.
