Led by ‘Tracker,’ CBS Declares Early Viewership Victory for the Truncated 2023-2024 Broadcast Season
Though the 2023-2024 TV season isn’t over yet, CBS is on track to maintain its title as the most-watched network for the 16th season in a row. Provided it stays on top over the next month, the broadcaster would break its own record for the longest-ever winning streak, which was set between 1955 and 1970.
According to Live + 7 data measured by Nielsen through April 21, CBS is averaging 5.59 million viewers, putting it 580,000 ahead of its closest competitor, which is NBC with an average 5.01 million viewers. ABC and Fox trail behind at 4.29 million and 3.35 million viewers, respectively.
The winning lineup is led by “Tracker,” the Justin Hartley-led drama series that is not only the most-watched new series of the season but the most-watched series overall. Behind “Tracker,” CBS also has the next three most-watched shows: “NCIS,” “Young Sheldon” and “FBI.” The No. 5 series is NBC’s “Chicago Fire,” followed by two more CBS titles,...

It’s time for some “CSI: Nielsen Ratings.”
CBS is set to win the 2023-24 season as the most-watched network — again — it’s now been 16 straight seasons of the same. CBS has now broken broadcast television’s longest winning streak on record, which was also CBS: From 1955 to 1970, when “Gunsmoke,” “The Andy Griffith Show,” and (some of) “I Love Lucy” ruled its airwaves.
Fast-forward 50 years to the current TV season, which runs from fall (September) through spring (May), and CBS has won 21 of the past 22 years. CBS is also poised to win the season among adults 18-49, long-considered the key demographic for advertisers, as well as its own target market, viewers 25-54. It is also number 1 this year among 18-34-year-olds; Super Bowl Lviii sure helped CBS pull those victories out of its football helmet.

The Chicago Fire hiatus ended Wednesday night with a new episode called The Wrong Guy.
Paramedic Lyla Novak (Jocelyn Hudon) was introduced in the previous episode as the new partner for Violet Mikami (Hanako Greensmith).
Novak stepped in after Chief Boden (Eamonn Walker) sent Jared Lennox (Wesam Keesh) packing. Lennox didn’t fit at Firehouse 51, as the team sought a replacement for Sylvie Brett (Kara Killmer).
Violet wasn’t sure about Novak at first, but she was won over by Novak’s skills in the field and outgoing personality.
Rome Flynn has also departed from the Chicago Fire cast. He played firefighter Jake Gibson, the character replacing Blake Gallo (Alberto Rosende).
More casting changes are in store this season, so be ready One Chicago fans.

Chicago Fire is back from another hiatus, but maybe the writers needed a longer break.
I'm not trying to shade anyone, but let's face it — like many others this season, this episode lacked a certain something. Substance? Interest? Whatever it was, it was missing.
When you have a show with this many characters, and you're constantly introducing new ones, it has to be hard to keep track of the storylines you're putting together. That's no reason to jump the shark, though, and it's starting to feel like that's what's happening.
On Chicago Fire Season 12 Episode 10, we at least had a bit of a theme going on. Most of the stories focused on family.
Hermann learned how to track his kids' locations on their phones, Cruz dealt with a potential threat regarding Javi's adoption, and Severide came close to having to watch Stella fall to her death.

Chicago Fire is finally back with a brand new episode tonight!
Every One Chicago show – including Chicago Med and Chicago Pd – have been on a long hiatus since April 3, 2024, and you may be wondering why.
Keep reading to find out more…
If you don’t recall, this season began with four weeks of new episodes after it premiered on January 17, 2024. Since then, there’s been a very inconsistent schedule of reruns vs. new episodes.
The reason why the schedule is so on-and-off is because of the strikes that happened last year. Both the writers’ and actors’ guilds went on strikes, and filming for season 12 could not even take place until November 2023. As a result, Chicago Fire had to have a shortened season and the need for larger gaps between some episodes.
Episode 10, airing tonight, has the following synopsis: Severide steps in as ranking officer at 51; Kidd fights to save her...

Chicago Fire has proven itself over the course of its twelve-season run.
One of its most senior cast members, Taylor Kinney, has given the show (and its fans) plenty to love in his years of playing Kelly Severide.
Because Kinney took a leave of absence during Season 11 following a mysterious personal matter, fans have long feared that a more permanent absence could be on the horizon for Severide.
Given how much character development had been invested into Severide, it's obvious why the show opted to keep his future open while Kinney was on leave.
Good thing, too, because he came back in Season 12 with a bang and seems to be home for good — at least for now.
Severide and his relationship with his wife, fellow firefighter Stella Kidd, have been a huge point of interest for the show.
Fans love their chemistry, and we all enjoyed watching them get their happy ending.

Will this give the Peacock Network a significant leg up in the ratings for the whole 2023-24 television season? How many NBC shows will be cancelled or renewed by the end? Stay tuned.

Chicago Fire Spoilers – So, When Can We Expect Fresh Content From Chicago Fire?
Since April 3, fans of Chicago Fire have been eagerly awaiting a new episode, but unfortunately, there hasn’t been one yet since “Something About Her” aired.
Instead of new episodes, the show has been airing reruns at its regular time slot, and it’s not just Chicago Fire, all the shows under the One Chicago umbrella are affected.
Chicago Med and Chicago Pd haven’t had any new shows either, just reruns, and it’s been nearly a month since they aired new episodes as well.

Chicago Fire fans have been patiently waiting almost a month for new episodes.
That wait could pay off in a big way with some dramatic storylines over the next few weeks.
As a reminder, Chicago Fire Season 12 was shortened due to the Hollywood strikes. This means we only get 13 new episodes this time, as opposed to 22+ in a regular season.
NBC has four more new episodes of Chicago Fire that debut in May, including a season finale that will likely include another cliffhanger.
The good news is that there are four consecutive weeks of new content, meaning One Chicago fans won’t have to worry about repeat episodes for a while.
Chicago Fire Season 13 has also been ordered. So, new episodes for that season will air in the fall of 2024.
Chicago Fire spoilers for upcoming episodes
On May 1, a new episode called The Wrong Guy debuts on NBC at 9/8c.

Chicago Fire Season 12 has added a new firefighter who will appear in the final episodes this year.
The show took a long spring hiatus but finally returns on May 1 with new episodes and a new cast member.
Rome Flynn ended his run as firefighter Jake Gibson, with the character failing to finish the season.
Gibson entered the picture with a troubled past, including accidentally killing someone in the boxing ring. His demons caught up with him, and a drug problem caused Gibson to leave Firehouse 51.
That character was added as a replacement for Blake Gallo (Alberto Rosende), who left Chicago to spend time with his newly-found family.
Gallo had been a fan-favorite on Chicago Fire, so it was a difficult task to replace him. The next man up now enters the revolving door at this particular firehouse.

Sophia Bush came out to the world this week and noted that she has found “real joy” during a new stage of her life.
The Chicago P.D. alum (she played Detective Erin Lindsay) says that regarding her sexuality, “the word that best defines it is queer.”
Sophia has been on television and in many films. She has also been seen on stage, including a recent play in London.
Many television viewers met Sophia as Brooke Davis on One Tree Hill. She then starred as Erin Lindsey on the One Chicago shows. She was seen on Chicago P.D., Chicago Fire, Chicago Med, and the failed spin-off, Chicago Justice. Her character was even on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit four times.
Sophia played Beth in John Tucker Must Die, October in Stay Alive, and Grace Andrews in The Hitcher on the big screen.

The newest ‘Law & Order’ spin-off has seen consistently better ratings on Peacock than on linear NBC to this point.
Eliot Stabler is coming back for at least one more ride. The popular character portrayed for 25 years by actor Christopher Meloni is the star of “Law & Order: Organized Crime,” the latest member of the franchise originated by Dick Wolf. “Organized Crime” was stuck in limbo while waiting to find out if it would be renewed for a fifth season or not, but it appears that NBCUniversal has finally made a decision. A new report from Deadline indicates that “Law & Order: Organized Crime” will move to Peacock for an abbreviated Season 5, and if it’s successful, could return for more episodes.

The last NBC drama series whose fate had not been determined, Law & Order: Organized Crime, is finalizing a deal for a 10-episode Season 5 renewal, sources said. As Deadline reported exclusively this month, the Wolf Entertainment series will be relocating from NBC to sibling Peacock, with the new season streaming exclusively on the platform.
The move gives the NBCUniversal streamer an original Dick Wolf drama series to go with the Wolf library and next-day runs of the company’s remaining NBC series Chicago Fire, Chicago P.D., Chicago Med, Law & Order and Law & Order: Svu, which are among the platform’s most viewed titles.

After the success of One Chicago, a franchise co-produced by Wolf Entertainment and NBCUniversal that began with the firefighting procedural Chicago Fire and expanded into several spinoffs, ABC also decided to try its hand at franchising.
In partnership with Shondaland, the network turned Grey's Anatomy into a TV franchise, first with the spinoff Private Practice, also a medical drama, and then with the action-drama Station 19, which, like Chicago Fire, follows the employees of a fictional fire station as they navigate their personal and professional lives. The only difference is that the action moves from Chicago to Seattle, and the plot is much more action-packed and thrilling.
And so, Station 19 has been coming to the small screens of ABC viewers for six full years now. In addition, Season 7, as announced last December, is the final one, so we don't have many episodes left. At the same time, of course,...

The procedural shows have been popular with viewers for many years. Projects dedicated to the work of firefighters and other emergency personnel offer a 50-minute dose of drama and action.
Chicago Fire creators Michael Brandt and Derek Haas have been writing together since the 1990s. They sold their first script while Brandt was working as an assistant editor on Robert Rodriguez's The Faculty in 1998, but their first known project came five years later, a Fast and Furious sequel. Another famous film of the duo is the western 3:10 to Yuma with Russell Crowe and Christian Bale.
So, Brandt and Haas definitely know a thing or two about quality scripts.

“Norman Lear’s TV for the People: Script Reading and Conversation” will honor the legendary television producer and activist, who died in December 2023, with a night of comedy and conversation. There will be two live script readings — one of the groundbreaking abortion episode from “Maude” and the second of a classic episode from “Good Times.” Guest actors will read for each role, including Katey Sagal (in the role of “Maude”), Phil Rosenthal (in the role of “Walter Findlay”), Danny Pino (in the role of “Dr. Arthur Harmon”), Dulé Hill (in the role of “James Evans Sr.”).
The script readings will be followed by a conversation with Lear’s former collaborators and friends discussing his approach to TV and his ability to use the sitcom format to have important conversations.

The NBCUniversal streamer continues to make small, but steady climbs in its quest for streaming survival.
Comcast’s flagship streaming service Peacock has been on a slow but steady climb since launching in 2020. While still amongst the smaller platforms from major media companies, it is no longer an easily ignored also-ran, seemingly fighting for scraps as the streaming world threatened to leave it behind. Now boasting a robust offering of live sports, hit movies, and increasingly compelling original series, following the first quarter of 2024, Peacock added 3 million new customers to cap its year-over-year growth at 55%. During the same period in 2023, the streamer reported having 22 million paying customers, now that total sits at 34 million.
Key Details: Peacock added 3 million customers in Q1 and 12 million year-over-year. The streamer brought in $1.1 billion in revenue during the first three months of 2024. However, it is still operating at a $639M quarterly loss. Sign Up $5.99+ / month peacocktv.

Chicago Fire Season 12 is quickly approaching its end. Only a few episodes remain before the long summer hiatus.
This is a shorter season of the hit firefighter drama – mostly because of the two Hollywood strikes that delayed production.
Even though most fans feel like the show just returned, it has been on a long spring break before the final episodes from the current season.
The summer hiatus will feel even longer due to the delays in the past season, but at least NBC already ordered Chicago Fire Season 13.
Many dramas around the television landscape have been canceled, so at least Chicago Fire fans can rest easy knowing the show is returning in the fall of 2024.
But before that new season begins, we have some important upcoming episodes to close out Chicago Fire Season 12.

Hey, "Chicago Fire" fans. We're back with some unfortunate news I'm afraid. Yeah, it turns out that the folks over at NBC currently has a 3-week delay set on Chicago Fire. So, there will be no new episode 10 of this season 12 tonight, April 10, 2024, Wednesday night, April 17, 2024 and Wednesday night, April 24, 2024. According to one of our sources, NBC is currently scheduled to finally air the new episode 10 on Wednesday night, May 1, 2024 in its usual, 8 pm central standard time slot. So, certainly be sure to remember that very important date and time if you can. We did find out what CBS is filling Chicago Fire's empty time slot with during this 3-week delay. According to the TV guide listings, NBC is serving up some repeat episodes of Chicago Fire. Tonight, they're going to re-air the 4th episode of this season 12 titled, "The Little Things." The month of April seemingly sailed by with far too many moderate releases, and the month ends this weekend with more of the same. Read on for Gold Derby’s box office preview.
Italian filmmaker Luca Guadagnino returns with the sexy tennis drama “Challengers,” starring the powerhouse trio of Zendaya (“Euphoria”), Josh O’Connor (“The Crown”) and Mike Faist (“West Side Story”) as superstar tennis players who fall into a competitive love triangle. This is Zendaya’s first movie after “Dune: Part Two,” and it will be a real test for her as a box office star, since sports dramas can be hit or miss. “Challengers” really is riding on her popularity to avoid the pitfalls of the genre.

Chicago Med is one of the biggest shows on TV, and so are its stars!
The medical TV series, co-created by Law & Order creator Dick Wolf, centers around the emergency department (Ed) doctors and nurses of Gaffney Chicago Medical Center as they work to nurse patients back to health and save their lives. It also includes crossovers with the other Chicago-based shows in the franchise, including Chicago Fire and Chicago P.D.
Season 9 is currently in full swing – Find out who returned and who didn’t – and so many of the stars are growing their already huge fanbases on social media.

Chicago P.D. Season 11 is coming to an end. There are only a few episodes left before the long summer hiatus begins.
The late start — exacerbated by two Hollywood strikes — means fewer episodes this season. Despite the shortened season, the final few episodes should be intense.
Most fans have already heard that this is the final season for Tracy Spiridakos. She plays Detective Hailey Upton and has already filmed her final scenes.
Mysteries surround the upcoming season finale, with some fans hoping Jesse Lee Soffer returns to play Detective Jay Halstead again.
Halstead last appeared early in Season 10, but the character’s exit left fans without closure in his relationship with Upton. Hopefully, the writers do a better job wrapping up Upton’s storylines.
The show must also address the serial killer case that Intelligence has failed to solve. It could lead to a dramatic resolution with the return of a character introduced earlier this season.

The new creature feature from Universal will stream on Peacock, but how long will it take to arrive?
We’re only halfway to Halloween 2024, but Universal Studios isn’t reserving all of its horror films for Spooky Season. Its latest scary movie is titled simply “Abigail,” but fans will be jumping out of their seats plenty often when the movie debuts in theaters on Friday, April 19, despite the short moniker.
“Abigail” has compiled an 81% rating on Rotten Tomatoes from critics so far. As a Universal film, “Abigail” will stream on Peacock when it leaves theaters. Sometimes, streaming is for the birds, and in this case, they’d be right. On Friday, April 19, Illumination’s hit animated film “Migration” is coming to Peacock and bringing a motley crew of feathered friends and A-list voice actors along for the ride. Having grossed nearly $300 million at the global box office, “White Lotus” Emmy winner Mike White’s film about a bird family flying south for the winter only to end up in New York City is fun for the whole family — whether human or aviary. You can watch with a subscription to Peacock.

In the movie Dream Scenario, starring Nicholas Cage, a biology professor named Paul Matthews starts appearing in the nightmares of random people all over the country.
None of these people understand why, nor do they know anything about Paul beyond recognizing his unusual face -- which gives them flashbacks of the terrible dream.
Paul himself is perplexed because he has not intentionally done anything to these people, nor is he a Freddy Krueger-type monster who controls a higher plane of existence.
But when Paul becomes infamous for his cameo appearances in peoples' dreams, he begins to see scorn, fear, hatred, and eventually violence coming from people who hold him personally responsible for their nightmares.
As I finished Dream Scenario, I realized this is what some right-leaning celebrities must feel like.

With a string of mysterious murders at its center, "The Acolyte" is set to be the "Star Wars" equivalent of detective fiction -- although the show's first trailer also makes it clear that it won't forfeit any action for the sake of its mysteries. That first look features a martial arts-inspired face-off, a Force-fueled knife fight, and a forest showdown that begins with an ominous red lightsaber cutting through the trees.
According to series star Dafne Keen, who spoke with Entertainment Weekly about the new show earlier this month, "The Acolyte" isn't just trying to match the action sequences of past "Star Wars" shows; it's trying to beat them. "It was very much: We want to top the Darth Maul fight — the most iconic fight, I think, in the 'Star Wars' cinematic universe," Keen told EW. There's a good reason the climactic Darth Maul battle is a reference point for...

Chicago Med hiatus: When does the show return and what should fans expect from the next new episode?
Chicago Med is still on an extended spring hiatus as the show takes a break before racing toward the season finale.
Some fans may already be upset that the One Chicago shows have taken such a long break during April, but new episodes are on the horizon.
As a reminder, two Hollywood strikes paused the production of the NBC dramas. It delayed the new seasons from premiering for many months.
When the shows finally returned in January, Chicago Med fans were reminded that Dr. Will Halstead (Nick Gehlfuss) had left the show.
Dr. Halstead’s final episode was the Season 8 finale, where he quit working at the hospital and traveled to Seattle. When he got off the plane, he was greeted by Dr. Natalie Manning (Torrey DeVitto) and her daughter.
Several new doctors have joined the fold on the Chicago Med cast this season, adding some freshness to the show.

Watching Chicago Fire has always felt nostalgic, even in the beginning.
The pacing, the dialogue, and the often unrealistic (but still highly entertaining) storylines are reminiscent of the daytime soap operas that you might remember from spending sick days off school at your grandma's house.
To be clear, that's the highest compliment a show could receive.
The thing about Chicago Fire is that it blends soapy tropes with all the best aspects of primetime TV and delivers a fun, emotional, steamy product as a result.
Who doesn't love a show that can make you laugh, cry, roll your eyes, and cringe all in the same episode?
Chicago Fire is fast-paced. The writers love to jam as much into an hour as they possibly can, and it works because it keeps us focused throughout the episode.
It's hard to find other shows that are similarly paced, but daytime soap operas come close.
