Quotes

  • Mike Ehrmantraut : [after divvying up payment]  Okay, for you, you, and me - $367,000 each.

Walter White : Ooh, wait a minute. After the dealers got their cut, we should be looking at $1,379,560. Mike, you're short. You're almost $300,000 short.

Mike Ehrmantraut : You're forgetting about the mules. They get a flat 20%.

    Walter White : The what?

Jesse Pinkman : The drivers. They're the ones that take the product from us to the dealers.

Walter White : And so, transportation is worth 20%?

Mike Ehrmantraut : They are taking a risk.

Walter White : [incredulously]  $275,000 worth of risk? Wow. What did Gus pay his mules?

Mike Ehrmantraut : Gustavo Fring didn't use mules. He didn't need them. He spent twenty years building his own distribution. He had sixteen refrigerator trucks running his product. And you know where they are now? Government impound. You don't like paying 20%? Maybe you shouldn't have killed the guy.

Jesse Pinkman : [stepping in after tension starts boiling]  Hey, hey, hey. There's still a million bucks here, all right? That's for one cook.

Mike Ehrmantraut : [to Walter]  Since you're putting on the green eyeshade, my supplier and I came to an agreement. The methylamine is free this time. But brace yourself, because the next barrel is gonna cost big.

    [condescendingly]

Mike Ehrmantraut : Can we continue, or you got any more burning questions?

[Walt says nothing, spreads his hands as a sign of abstaining; Mike proceeds, addressing Jesse]

Mike Ehrmantraut : Okay, kid. You fronted us $120 to get us going. So that's $40 from him and me - $120.

Walter White : Yes, thank you, Jesse.

Mike Ehrmantraut : Okay. Now, Ira gets $110 for our piece of the business and $25 per cook. That is $45 from each of us. Ira's guys get $10 each per cook, Goodman's cut $18,000 from each.

[Walt watches begrudgingly as Mike continuously grabs bricks of cash from the piles on the table and throwing them in a bag]

    Mike Ehrmantraut : Legacy cost - $351,000. That's $117,000 each.

    Walter White : Legacy cost?

Mike Ehrmantraut : I got nine guys. You don't know them, but they were a part of the previous operation, and they know a lot. And right now, some of them are in jail and more will be soon. The feds RICO'ed their hazard pay, so we are gonna make 'em whole.

Walter White : [baffled, getting more annoyed]  We are gonna make them whole? What is this we? These were Gus's employees not ours.

Mike Ehrmantraut : They might have been Gus's employees, but they're my guys.

Walter White : So, what are they doing to further our interest?

Mike Ehrmantraut : The cops are looking at them very closely. We don't want them furthering our interest.

Walter White : So, we are paying them. Why?

Mike Ehrmantraut : [starting to lose patience]  Because it's what you do.

    Walter White : [sarcastically]  Oh!

    [to Jesse]

Walter White : It's what you do!

Mike Ehrmantraut : My guys are keeping their mouths shut. We make 'em whole. One hand washes the other. It's as simple as that.

Walter White : Huh. Sounds like a simple shakedown. Simple as that! We're paying for their silence. That's blackmail.

Mike Ehrmantraut : [looking into Walt's eyes, in a low tone, deadpan]  Business is my end. This is business. End of story.

[reaches down to take another cut but Walt slams his hand down on it before he can]

Walter White : [growling]  This is your problem. It should come out of your end.

Jesse Pinkman : [stepping in again before things turn ugly]  Hey. Hey. Just take it out of mine. Alright? Go for it. I don't care. Just take it.

Walter White : [Walt and Mike continue to stare at each other confrontationally for a moment until Walt turns his attention to Jesse and eases up a bit towards his generosity]  No, Jesse, thank you, but... no.

[looks at Mike and nods in a peaceful manner]

Walter White : I'll pay my share.

[steps back, extends his hands to let him continue with his divvying, with some slight condescendence]

    Walter White : Go ahead.

Mike Ehrmantraut : [after a pause]  Let me tell you something. This is how it's gonna be from here on out. My guys are ongoing expenditure so you best get yourself comfortable with it.

Walter White : [Walt looks down at his cut, which is a small pile of cash]  $137,000. That's less than with Fring.

Mike Ehrmantraut : Listen, Walter. Just because you shot Jesse James don't make you Jesse James.

[Walt stands mute, but with a sinister look in his eyes indicating he begs to differ]

  • Walter White : How are you feeling?

Jesse Pinkman : Okay, I guess. Broke it off with Andrea. I had to. She's gonna tell Brock. I'm still gonna take care of the rent and stuff. It's the right thing to do, but, you know...

Walter White : I meant this.

[Shows Jesse a bag with bundles of money]

Walter White : How are you feeling about the money?
