Nearly six years after being acquitted of killing her 2-year-old daughter, Casey Anthony says she feels a kinship with O.J. Simpson.
In her first on-the-record interview ever about the case, the 30-year-old Florida woman told the Associated Press she has been researching the former football star’s 1994 murder trial. She told the AP that “there are a lot of parallels” between the two cases, both of which ended with shocking acquittals.
“I can empathize with his situation,” Anthony said, noting that she has become fascinated with the case.

As the final summer of the 1980s was coming to its end, two affluent brothers made headlines around the world after committing a grisly act of parricide that gripped an entire nation, morphing them both into tabloid and pop culture fodder and landing them behind bars, each with life sentences and zero possibility for freedom.
Those who’re able to recall the early 1990s will surely remember the names Erik and Lyle Menéndez. In a matter of weeks, the tale of the Beverly Hills party boys who murdered their wealthy parents will be retold during an all-new, 120-minute documentary special...

When filmmakers Joe Berlinger and Bruce Sinofsky arrived in West Memphis, Arkansas in June 1993, they came with an agenda: to document what looked like a new wave of alienated youth-turned-murderers. A few months earlier, two 10-year-olds in the U.K. had made headlines when they abducted, tortured and murdered a two-year-old, and now the filmmakers had read about the brutal murders of three eight-year-old boys ostensibly committed by teenage Satanists. It seemed like a trend. "We went down to make a film about guilty teenagers, like a real Rivers Edge,...

Thanks to the recent 20th anniversary of the trial and its verdict, and, particularly, given the current FX series American Crime Story: The People vs. O.J. Simpson, there has been renewed interest in the so-called “trial of the century” — in which former football star O.J. Simpson was accused and eventually acquitted of murdering his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ronald Goldman — and its outcome, events that captivated the nation back in 1994-95. If you’re old enough, you may recall all the press reports, and the courtroom drama that played out over the early days of Court TV (which … Continue reading →

It's been more than 20 years since a verdict was reached in the O.J. Simpson murder trial, but the controversial case will soon be back in the national conversation with the Feb. 2 premiere of The People v. O.J. Simpson - American Crime Story. While most of the public was unable to look away as the drama unfolded, some of us were still playing in sandboxes with our preschool classmates - or were mere twinkles in our parents' eyes - and could use a rundown on the case before we tune in to see Sarah Paulson, John Travolta and Cuba Gooding Jr....

"American Crime," premiering March 5 on ABC, is being touted as an innovative series for spending an entire season focusing on a single murder case, taking a wide-ranging look at the victims, the accused, and their extended families as a way of taking a broader look at the dynamics of a whole community. Of course, this isn't the first time it's been tried, but it could mark the first time that the approach actually works on network TV.
"American Crime" has secured a high-powered cast, including Timothy Hutton and Felicity Huffman. Nonetheless, after this season is over, the show will move on to a new case next year, with a new cast -- should the show prove a success and earn a renewal.
If that sounds a lot like HBO's "True Detective," that's not an accident. As the old joke goes, imitation is the sincerest form of television. In fact, series...
