Boring uninspired drama about same-sex love (struggles) Warning: Spoilers
"Frauensee" is a German movie from almost 5 years ago. The writer and director is Zoltan Paul, also an actor and I may have heard that name before. I am just not sure where. What I am sure of, however, is that I am not familiar with any of the actresses in here and looking at what they deliver here, this has certainly not been a loss for me I guess. The acting is pretty mediocre, but you have to say in their favor that the entire story is really random and uninteresting, so it would have taken a genius in terms of range to make this story seem exciting to watch. It relies on a lot that we actually like these main characters and dislike some of them because of their actions, but honestly I couldn't care less. Also Paul's clumsy attempts at creating tension by making everybody flawed in some way or another did not help the matter. And the ending feels fairly pretentious I must say with her on the water in the boat on her own. The best thing about the film is probably Thomas Thieme's presence. He is easily the most talented cast member and I genuinely wonder how they got him to work in this really underwhelming project with his impressive body of work. I am a bit biased here as I always liked him, but still... He was obviously the main antagonist here and I have to be honest that at some point I just hoped he would start killing the women one by one like in "I Know What You Did Last Summer" as this may have been the only way to save this film, even if it may have been a very strange idea. I give "Woman's Lake" a thumbs down. Don't watch.
